Congress 'forfeited the right to criticise' in the court of the people: Sonowal

Shillong, June 10 (UNI) Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal has strongly countered the Congress party's criticism of the Modi government's performance over the past 11 years, asserting that the grand old party has 'forfeited the right to criticise' in the court of the people.
Emphasising the transformative progress made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Sonowal said the Congress, which neglected the aspirations of the people for more than six decades, now stands exposed before a new India that rewards performance and punishes apathy.
'Congress has lost all moral rights. They had destroyed the prospect of Northeast when they misgoverned the country for more than six decades. The dark days of Congress governments were filled with violence, insurgency, terrorism that dragged our beautiful region in to a vortex of deprivation, devastation, discord and division. Peace was a distant dream,' the Union Minister said.
He added : 'This was reversed only with the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who took decisive steps to transform the region, respect the aspirations of the people, find solutions, usher a new era of peace and brotherhood, and ultimately, transform it as the Growth Engine of new India.'
Highlighting the major achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government over 11 years, Sonowal explained how it delivered unprecedented welfare benefits to every section of the society — uplifting the poor 'Garib Kalyan', empowering the women 'Nari Shakti', transforming agriculture 'Krishak Kalyan' and empowering the youth through skill based training and employment opportunities though innovative policy action via Start Up India or Digital India campaigns. Sonowal also underlined how more than 2.19 lakh farmers benefitted from the Mission Organic Value Chain Development, 434 Farmer Producer Organisations formed, covering 1.73 lakh hectares.
Sonowal said the government is working towards building Viksit Bharat during this Amrit Kala by focussing on 'Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan' (Service, Good Governance and Welfare of the Poor).
Over 81 crore people now, he said are receiving free rations under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, more than 15 crore rural households have access to tap water under 'Har Ghar Jal', and Rs. 3.7 lakh crore has been disbursed to farmers through PM-KISAN
Sonowal said women's empowerment has seen historic strides—from 33 per cent reservation in legislatures under the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam to direct benefit transfers for more than 3.9 crore pregnant women, and the historic admission of women into the National Defence Academy,'
Stating that the Modi government has brought the Northeast into the mainstream of India's development journey with unprecedented investment and focused attention, the Union Minister said, 'The Northeast has emerged transformative with 'Insurgency has declined by 64 per cent since 2014, AFSPA has been withdrawn from 75 per cent of the region,'
The government has approved over 3,600 projects worth Rs. 44,859 crore, built 10 greenfield airports, and expanded connectivity and organic farming through focused missions.
'Under Modi's leadership, the Northeast is being repositioned not as a peripheral zone, but as India's vital Gateway to the East, with peace, progress, and prosperity at its core', Sonowal further said.

Was Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir Invited To US Military Parade? Washington Says...

After speculations bubbled up about a possible invitation to Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir for the United States' Military Parade, the White House debunked the claims and clarified its stand on the matter. "This is false. No foreign military leaders were invited," according to IANS, a White House official stated. US Army Birthday The parade commemorates the formal founding of the US Army on June 14, 1775. It was formulated to fight the British colonialists, one year before the US attained Independence. Thousands of troops, several tanks, helicopters, and other military hardware were scheduled to participate in the parade, which will also feature flyovers. Moreover, the US does not have a tradition of such military parades like the Indian Republic Day or French Bastille Day parades. The US witnessed a military show last time in 1991 when the National Victory Celebration was held after it defeated Iraq in the First Gulf War to liberate Kuwait, which was also known as 'Operation Desert Storm.' The date of the US Army's Founding Day coincides with the birthday of US President Trump, who turned 79. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh was among the people who had claimed of invitation to Asim Munir. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), had initially claimed responsibility for the attack but later retracted. This led to New Delhi taking action against Islamabad on the diplomatic front. The Indian Armed Forces on May 7 launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The strikes were precise and non-escalatory in nature; however, Pakistan turned offensive and launched a swarm of drones and missile attacks on the Indian territory. Following the actions of Pakistan, India took action as well and strikes were carried out on multiple Pakistani airbases. On the diplomatic front, New Delhi announced the formation and travel of seven All-Party Delegations, which carried on India's policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism to key partner nations. Immediately after India's announcement regarding the All-Party Delegations, Pakistan took a similar decision, and former Foreign Minister of the Islamic State Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was entrusted to carry out a mission like India's. But, reportedly, the Pakistan People's Party leader failed to meet any senior US official above the rank of an Under Secretary.

"Mistakes Must Not Be...": Amit Shah On BJP Leader's Controversial Remarks

Union Ministers Amit Shah and Bhupendra Yadav on Saturday cautioned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders against making controversial statements, saying "restraint in speech is the most important virtue" and that "sometimes, it is wiser to stay silent". The two ministers were speaking at a three-day BJP training camp in Pachmarhi, a hill station in Madhya Pradesh's Narmadapuram district when they made the remarks. Their remarks came against the backdrop of Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah's comments on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi that sparked an outrage, even as the BJP leader later issued an apology. Colonel Qureshi was part of the team that conducted daily media briefings on Operation Sindoor. "Mistakes happen but they must not be repeated," Mr Shah said in his keynote address, in an apparent reference to the state minister's remarks. "No matter how senior or experienced one becomes, they must always remain a student," he added. State Cabinet Minister Karan Verma said Union Minister Shah's remarks were targeted at Vijay Shah's controversial comments. "He acknowledged that mistakes can happen to anyone, but made it clear that repetition is unacceptable," he said. Mr Yadav said an overreaction and lack of verbal restraint can cause serious reputational damages to a party. "Ninety percent of political harm comes from reacting to everything. Sometimes it is wiser to stay silent," he said. "In politics, restraint in speech is the most important virtue, especially in an era where every word is amplified," he said, urging leaders to think before speaking in public and maintain the dignity of the post they hold. Last month, Vijay Shah came under fire over his remarks on Colonel Qureshi, who gained prominence along with another woman officer, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, during media briefings on Operation Sindoor. Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives and resulted in Operation Sindoor, the minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had "sent their [terrorists'] sister" - a veiled reference to Colonel Qureshi - aboard a military aircraft to retaliate against those responsible. "They [terrorists] made our sisters widows, so Modi ji sent a sister of their community to strip them and teach them a lesson. "They undressed our Hindu brothers before killing them. We responded by sending their own sister to hit them in their houses," he said, in an apparent reference to Colonel Qureshi. He made the remarks - widely perceived as communal, gendered and derogatory - while addressing a local event in Raikunda village in Indore on May 12. As his comments triggered a nationwide uproar, he said he was ready to apologise "10 times". The Madhya Pradesh High Court, however, rebuked the minister for passing "scurrilous" remarks and using "language of the gutters" against Colonel Qureshi and ordered the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) on grounds of promoting enmity and hatred against him. Subsequently, the state police constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The minister's remarks also came under criticism of the Supreme Court, which said that individuals occupying constitutional positions should exercise restraint during their speeches. Meanwhile, the Pachmarhi training camp aims to educate both seasoned and newly-elected members on the BJP's history, working culture, and effective use of social media and communication skills. The camp, organised to train public representatives and party functionaries, is being attended by 165 BJP MLAs, 29 Lok Sabha MPs, and seven Rajya Sabha MPs from the state. In a move to ensure complete focus, participants have been directed not to use mobile phones during sessions, except during the scheduled breaks. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to address the closing ceremony of the event.
