Glenn Irwin to make British Superbike comeback with new team after shock Hager PBM Ducati split

The Carrickfergus man was confirmed to be departing the Ducati side by 'mutual consent' on Tuesday morning after the two sides reached a 'point of conflict' in their discussions over his comeback from a horror crash at Snetterton in June that left him needing surgery on his pelvic region.
Irwin had sounded an optimistic note that he could be back as early as this weekend however, despite that, in a statement by Hager PBM Ducati it was revealed that the pair have parted ways by 'mutual consent', with former British champion Scott Redding drafted in as Irwin's replacement for the remainder of the season.
It did not take long for the 35-year-old to find a replacement ride, however, with Nitrous Competitions OMG Racing Yamaha confirming only an hour later that they would be adding Irwin to their roster for the remainder of the campaign alongside defending British champion Kyle Ryde, running two bikes for the rest of the year.

Irwin will take to the grid at Thruxton at the weekend on his new machine for the first time, with team owner David Williams commenting: 'Nitrous Competitions OMG Racing are excited to have Glenn join the team.
"Between him and Kyle, we believe we have the strongest pairing on the current grid, and are entering the second half of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship season with a stronger sense of optimism than ever.'
Irwin raced under the Hager PBM Ducati umbrella from 2016 to 2018 before rejoining in 2023, winning 19 races and racking up a further 23 podium finishes, and he nearly delivered the 2023 British Championship to the team, missing out by half-a-point to Tommy Bridewell.
'Hager PBM Ducati and Glenn Irwin have announced that their contractual relationship has been terminated by mutual consent,' said Hager PBM Ducati's statement, with the team riding only one bike for the rest of the year.
'Following Glenn's serious accident at Snetterton in June and period of recovery it was the opinion of the team that his return should be deferred until at least after Round 7 at Cadwell Park.
'This decision was taken by the team management on the ground of managing competition expectations and a duty of care to Glenn as despite recovering to a position where 'fitness to ride' could potentially be achieved, the team felt that risks remained in this early period of recovery that a subsequent fall could result in a further, complicated injury.
'As a result of a point of conflict the parties have agreed to terminate their contractual relationship, and Glenn is free to pursue other opportunities to fulfil his insistence to immediately return to competition.'

Liverpool star makes feelings clear over Florian Wirtz impact – 'Maybe too much'

Liverpool splashed £116million to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window and the 22-year-old attacking midfielder is already making an impression Florian Wirtz is so naturally gifted that his performances in training can be intimidating to his Liverpool team-mates, according to Milos Kerkez. Wirtz is the most expensive addition of an extremely busy summer transfer window for Liverpool and is already wowing his new employers. ‌ Liverpool could end up smashing the British transfer record to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee which would rise to £116million if certain add-ons are met. The Reds have splashed the cash this summer with their spending nearly reaching £300m, with full-backs Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong and striker Hugo Ekitike the other high-profile arrivals so far. ‌ It has therefore been an exciting summer for the defending Premier League champions, who have seen Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold leave. Having caught the eye in pre-season, Wirtz will begin the 2025/26 campaign in the Charity Shield against Crystal Palace on Sunday – and Kerkez has given fans a flavour of what to expect. ‌ 'I was never nervous about joining in,' Kerkez told the Daily Mail of Liverpool's training sessions. 'I was really happy to be here and I couldn't wait to get started. 'But it was just the intensity that was different. The quality is higher and there are not many mistakes. It's the noise of the passes. The ball goes boom, boom, boom... it's different. 'And he (Wirtz) is very talented. All the guys knew it and everyone watched him in the Bundesliga. He's a special player, really technically gifted. I haven't seen that (level of quality) too much, too often. 'He does special things often, maybe too much in a session! With the ball, what he does, you don't see that in too many players. It's how he carries it, the things he does in small spaces. 'If you give him one or two metres, he's going to get you. He's really special in tight spaces. Just the vision of the passes is special. He will be a great addition to this club.' ‌ Wirtz contributed 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen and will have creative freedom in Arne Slot 's side. The 22-year-old is not daunted by the expectation on his shoulders. 'I came here to play my best football and because I thought I could fit into this team,' he said recently. 'I'm really enjoying my first few weeks. I'm enjoying playing with these players. It's getting a little bit better every time and I'm happy about how it's going. 'I think I'm a player who needs freedom on the pitch, and the manager gives it to me. Of course, I have to respect the position I'm in and the players around me, but I try to give my best on the pitch and find the right places, and I have the freedom for this here. 'I will try to find the right places to be, and the right spaces to get the ball and to be dangerous and create chances. I've not played a match in the Premier League yet but I am looking forward to it and that's why I came.' Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Liverpool to accelerate Marc Guehi transfer after Chelsea decision on Crystal Palace star

Liverpool are still planning to make at least one big signing before end of the window despite spending nearly £300m this summer already, with Marc Guehi a top defensive target for Arne Slot Liverpool are set to hold further talks with Crystal Palace over defender Marc Guehi after the two clubs have played each other in the Community Shield - with Chelsea yet to make a new approach. ‌ The Reds have identified the England international as a top defensive target as Arne Slot looks for a long-term successor to captain Virgil van Dijk, while cover is also needed following the exit of Jarrell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. ‌ That departure has left Liverpool with just three recognised centre-backs ahead of the new season and Slot will want to ensure his team is well stocked to defend their Premier League crown. ‌ Liverpool are said to be big fans of Guehi and want to accelerate talks with Palace, but will do so after Sunday's Wembley clash between the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners, according to the Daily Mail. Guehi is high in demand after a superb season with Palace and former club Chelsea are said to be interested in bringing him back to Stamford Bridge. But as it stands the Blues have not submitted a bid for the defender despite losing Levi Colwill to a long-term ACL injury, the report says. ‌ Enzo Maresca is planning to sign a new defender, however, and Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie is on his list too. But Chelsea are occupied on securing the signing of Xavi Simons from Red Bull Leipzig for now, while they also want to get Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho over the line, which could give Liverpool the upper hand. Palace are said to be demanding at least £45m for a player who is out of contract next summer. ‌ Slot's side have spent nearly £300m in the transfer window already and are still chasing a money-spinning move for Alexander Isak, with his club Newcastle rejecting their recent £120m bid. The Reds have also sanctioned a British transfer record move of £116.5m for Florian Wirtz and £79m on Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, but that hasn't stopped the club for pushing ahead with plans to strengthen at both ends of the pitch. Their number one priority will be to secure the signature of Isak, but that move is shrouded in uncertainty as the player continues to train alone. When asked if he may have to sell the Sweden star this weekend, boss Eddie Howe replied: "That's a decision that I won't make, that will be for other people to make. "We're focusing on [next weekend's Premier League opener against] Aston Villa. Everything else, to a degree, from my perspective is not in my control, so it's not my focus."
