Shia LaBeouf, 38, Is Nearly Unrecognizable at Cannes

Shia LaBeouf attended the photocall for Slauson Rec at the 78th annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals on May 18.
The actor sported a white t-shirt with a black jacket and a pair of slacks as he posed for photos. His hair was slicked back and more salt-and-pepper than it has been and he sported a full mustache and a light beard. He also wore sunglasses as he posed for photos at the event.
Prior to flying across the pond for this year's Cannes Film Festival, LaBeouf spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about Slauson Rec, a documentary about the Slauson Recreation Center in Los Angeles, which he founded in 2018.
'When this thing comes out, it isn't any worse than what's been said about me previously. Maybe it reifies people's ideas about me. I think, at heart, I'm a good guy. Am I f----- up? Yes. Is my process ugly and disgusting? Yes. Have I done horrible s--- in the past that I'm going to have to make amends for the rest of my life? Yes. Does this movie change any of that? No. Does it also allow my people to get a foot into this f------ industry? Yes. So gas pedal down, green light go," he told the outlet.
The doc's Cannes debut was announced just one week prior to the festival's start.
These days, LaBeouf doesn't often make public appearances. The 38-year-old has made headlines for all sorts of negative things, including public outbursts and arrests, and, in 2014, the actor said that he was "retiring" from life in the public eye.
"In light of the recent attacks against my artistic integrity, I am retiring from all public life," he wrote on X, according to CBS News. "My love goes out to those who have supported me." The post has since been removed from the platform.
Last year, LaBeouf turned heads in Cannes when he walked the red carpet for the premiere of the film Megalopolis with bleached blonde hair.

Sydney Sweeney Is Red Hot in a Dramatic Vera Wang Ballgown

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." If you've been missing the drama of Cannes red carpet looks, Sydney Sweeney's got you covered. On Wednesday, the Euphoria star turned heads in a dramatic, scarlet red ballgown at the premiere of her new film Echo Valley in New York City. The gown—a custom creation by Vera Wang—was made of a decadent Italian silk and it mimicked the essence of Old Hollywood. The arresting look featured a strapless, sweetheart neckline, as well as a corseted bodice with a beautifully ruched peplum and voluminous ballgown skirt. Putting a full spotlight on the gown, Sweeney kept her accessories simple, yet classic, opting for a pair of diamond studs, while letting her long blond locks drape over her shoulders. After posing on the red carpet solo, the White Lotus actor joined co-stars Julianne Moore (who looked sleek in a sculptural long-sleeve black dress) and Kyle MacLachlan on the red carpet, where they posed for photos together before heading into the premiere. Following the screening, the Laneige ambassador kept her red theme going, changing into another fiery dress featuring a similar corseted waist but with an off-the-shoulder neckline and a draped, side-slit skirt. Sweeney's glamorous ball gown moment follows days of showcasing a series of stylish looks while in New York for her Echo Valley press tour. Working with stylist Molly Dickson, the actor embraced chocolate brown hues for some of her best looks of the week. First, Sweeney channeled her inner boardroom boss in a cocoa-colored, pinstripe blazer dress from the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2005 Ready-to-Wear collection. The archival piece featured a matching, attached tie, as well as an asymmetrical trio of pockets. She paired the look with chocolate sling back heels, a matching suede bag from Magda Butrym, and sporty, blue-tined sunglasses. Then, the Madame Web star continued to embrace the Working Girl-inspired theme when she stepped out in a brown and blue checkered silk pant set from Oscar de la Renta—looking sophisticated and ready to take on anything that may come her way. Salt Bae's Reign of Golden Steaks and Arm-Sprinkled Salt Ends in Beverly Hills

Nusret Gökçe, better known as Salt Bae, has sprinkled his last steaks in Los Angeles. The Beverly Hills outpost of Gökçe's global steakhouse chain, Nusr-Et, suddenly closed on June 4, four years after opening in 2021. In early 2025, Nusr-Et shuttered its Las Vegas location, but plans to reopen elsewhere in the city. Gökçe, a Turkish butcher and chef, first infiltrated the public consciousness when a video of him slicing into a steak and then sprinkling salt down his flexed forearm onto the meat waiting below went viral in 2017. His tight white T-shirt and tiny sunglasses instantly became recognizable — he even recreated the infamous post, sunglasses and all, at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. Gökçe opened the first location of Nusr-Et in 2010, when only his immediate audience could enjoy his salt-slinging, forearm-seasoning tactics. However, in the years following his sudden rise to fame, Nusr-Et quickly expanded globally and announced a future location for Los Angeles. After years of development and moving on from its planned location in the Arts District, Nusr-Et opened in Beverly Hills in 2021. Gökçe was on-site for the opening weekend to sprinkle meat on request (hopefully, he had a strict forearm sanitation protocol). In Beverly Hills, Nusr-Et served a menu of steaks from the char-grill, including the mustard-marinated Amor (#Saltbae's Private Reserve Cut), a thick-cut wagyu Woww steak, and the #Saltbae tomahawk. The restaurant also served a Golden Experience menu, with enough gold-gilded meat to kick off another Gold Rush. A 24-carat gold-coated tomahawk went for $950, a golden Amor for $1,500, and a four-pound wagyu New York strip steak for $2,000. Meat sushi with Parmigiano (separate from the beef carpaccio on the menu) was also served atop mounds of sushi rice. But Salt Bae's rise and fall from virality wasn't without its issues. In 2019, Mr. Bae was accused of tip-skimming at his Manhattan restaurant. Two years later, in 2021, the restaurant group was sued for allegedly misclassifying employees to avoid paying overtime wages; the suit was later dismissed. And in 2023, Gökçe was banned from the 2023 U.S. Open Cup after he kissed the World Cup trophy. In 2023, Nusr-Et had seven locations in the U.S.; as of June 2025, there are only two remaining, in Miami and New York City. As Salt Bae and his salty forearms bid farewell to Los Angeles, Nusr-Et eyes further international expansion, with new locations planned for Mexico City, Rome, Ibiza, and more. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors The "John Wick" series is one of the most beloved modern action franchises, with four films grossing over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. With incredible action sequences, fascinating world-building, and an iconic lead in Keanu Reeves, "John Wick" has become the standard for any action film today. More Entertainment: Five Nights at Freddy's 2 – Everything We Know, Trailer, Release Date However, not every part of the franchise was a hit. The spin-off Peacock series "The Continental: From the World of John Wick" had a lukewarm reception and was not renewed for a second season. Most fans point to the spin-off missing creator Derek Kolsted and director Chad Stahelski as a major reason for it falling short of expectations. And it seems that Stahelski agrees. Keanu Reeves has played assassin John Wick in four mainline movies. He's set to reprise his role in spinoff Ballerina. Keanu Reeves has played assassin John Wick in four mainline movies. He's set to reprise his role in spinoff Ballerina. Lionsgate Films In an interview with James Hibberd of The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski revealed that he and star Keanu Reeves were largely ignored during the production of "The Continental." "Keanu and I were — I wouldn't say sidelined, but our opinion was heard and not really noted," Stahelski said. "[The studio] tried to convince me they knew what they were doing. A group of individuals thought they had the magic sauce. Chad Stahelski comes out guns blazing in our Q&A about his studio battles, the action industry and all things #JohnWick — from this week's #BallerinaMovie to 'Wick 5' and what happened with 'The Continental': "I'm not trying to be an anarchist" — The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) June 5, 2025 "But if you take out Basil Iwanyk's producing intuitiveness, if you take out Keanu's way of delivering quirky dialogue and if you take out all the visuals I have in my head from Wong Kar-wai, anime, Leone, Bernardo Bertucci or Andrei Tchaikovsky ... then it's not the same thing. "They thought this was as easy as using anamorphic lenses, do a kooky hotel, put in weird dialogue, and insert crime drama." More Entertainment: 'Wicked' Star Cynthia Erivo Calls Out Critics of Her New Role "If you saw our process, you'd be like, 'You're telling me this billion dollar franchise does it this way?'" Stahelski continued. "I'm scouting my next film in London and we saw a cool location yesterday which totally changed the second act. We rewrote the whole thing. I find great cast members and rewrite their parts constantly. "That's what makes [the movies] so good and organic — we're constantly upgrading. But the studio likes to know what they're getting for their buck and want to lock a script for budget reasons. While we're saying, 'Just write the check, we'll see you at the finish line.'" More Entertainment: The Accountant 2 Gets New Digital Release Date – How To Watch This seems to be the case for the newest film in the franchise, "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina," starring Ana De Armas. Opening in theaters on June 6, "Ballerina" is already receiving critical praise for doing what the previous films did so well. And it's likely that the upcoming "Caine", based on Donny Yen's fan-favorite character, will do the same. In the end, it seems that if there's a formula that results in making a franchise the best in its genre, you probably shouldn't mess with it.
