Ration distribution programme inaugurated
Speaking at the inauguration of the ration distribution programme at a fair price shop in Vakalapudi village of Kakinada Rural constituency, the minister said that arrangements are being made to supply millets such as ragi, jowar, bajra, and Korra in addition to rice, keeping public health in mind.
Minister Manohar personally handed over ration supplies at the home of an elderly beneficiary Krishnasetty Gopal. He later addressed a public gathering, stating that around 8.15 lakh families across the state received ration supplies through 29,761 ration shops on Sunday morning. The minister said that the distribution of essentials through ration shops has long been a strong and transparent system, which had been damaged by the previous YSRCP government.
He criticised the Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs), saying their schedules were unclear and lacked proper records, and alleged that false claims were made about distributing 93% of ration in a single day. Manohar assured that the current coalition government is working to restore the dignity of ration dealers and urged them to serve the people with commitment.
He also directed that price boards, stock boards, and informative posters be prominently displayed in all fair price shops. QR code scanners will soon be installed at ration depots to enable the public to report issues directly to officials.
Minister Manohar mentioned that the government had purchased Rs 12,400 crore worth of paddy unmatched by any other state, and credited payments to the accounts of nearly 8 lakh farmers within 24 hours. 'Even before farmers return from the mills, money is being credited to their bank accounts,' he stated.
He also noted that pensions are being distributed door-to-door from the first day of the month and stressed the Rs 894 crore allocation for providing a second LPG cylinder to women under the Deepam scheme.
Civil Supplies Commissioner Saurabh Gaur stated that the government is collecting real-time data every 10 minutes regarding ration distribution from shops. He promised that technical glitches would soon be addressed and advised dealers to maintain courteous and respectful behaviour with the public.
Joint collector Rahul Meena said efforts are underway to ensure timely and transparent distribution of essential commodities across 1,060 ration shops in 21 mandals of Kakinada district.

Earlier in the day, Minister Nadendla Manohar inaugurated the ration distribution programme at a fair price shop in the 18th ward of Pithapuram, represented by Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan. The event was attended by District Collector S Shan Mohan, DCCB Chairman Tummala Ramaswamy, Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman Thota Sudheer, former Pithapuram MLAs SVSN Varma and Pendem Dorababu, as well as Jana Sena party in-charge Marreddy Srinivas and other local leaders.

They suggested that holding national and state elections together could significantly enhance India's economic growth, investment climate, and governance efficiency On Wednesday, a meeting of the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) led by BJP lawmaker PP Chaudhary took place in Parliament discussing the crucial One Nation One Election legislation. The subject of the day was titled 'Interaction with Shri NK Singh, former Rajya Sabha Member, Chairman of Fifteenth Finance Commission of India, former Member of the Planning Commission, former Revenue Secretary, Secretary to former Prime Minister and noted economist on the said Bills, assisted by Dr Prachi Mishra, Prof of Economics and Head & Director of Isaac Centre for Public Policy, Ashoka University". A presentation by NK Singh and Prachi Mishra made a compelling economic case for simultaneous elections. They suggested that holding national and state elections together could significantly enhance India's economic growth, investment climate, and governance efficiency. They estimated that real GDP growth is 1.5 percentage points higher around simultaneous elections compared to staggered ones, translating into an economic gain of nearly Rs 4.5 lakh crore in today's terms, equivalent to half of India's health budget or a third of the education budget. They also noted that gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), a proxy for investment activity, is 0.5 percentage points higher after simultaneous elections, reflecting increased confidence among private and foreign investors. However, frequent, staggered elections are said to cause wide-ranging disruptions to economic and social life. Industries such as manufacturing, construction, tourism, and healthcare suffer from repeated cycles of uncertainty, and migrant workers—who constitute nearly a third of India's population—are especially affected. Repeated elections force them to travel home frequently, leading to lost wages and missed voting rights. The impact also extends to education and law enforcement. Primary school enrolment dips by 0.5 percentage points around non-simultaneous elections due to teachers being deployed on election duty and schools doubling as polling stations. Crime rates tend to spike more during staggered polls as police forces remain diverted for longer periods. One of the starkest observations is that India has witnessed elections every single year since 1986, placing the nation in a state of perpetual election mode. This results in the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) being enforced up to four times in five years, restricting policymaking and delaying developmental projects. Moreover, the political consequences of frequent elections include a spillover of populist promises across states and a sharp rise in fiscally unsustainable freebies. Singh warns this trend represents a 'race to the bottom" in fiscal populism. In agriculture, frequent polls create speculative uncertainty over policies like minimum support prices (MSPs), subsidies, and loan waivers, distorting farmer decision-making and hampering long-term planning. The findings are likely to fuel the ongoing debate around the feasibility and desirability of One Nation One Election, with proponents arguing that it could improve governance stability, reduce fiscal populism, and enhance policy continuity. The panel includes members like Supriya Sule (NCP), Mukul Wasnik, Randeep Surjewala, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra (all from Congress), Anil Desai (Shiv Sena UBT), and Kalyan Banerjee (TMC). Representing the ruling alliance are Anurag Thakur, Sambit Patra, Bhartruhari Mahtab, Baijayant Panda, Anil Baluni (all from BJP), Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena), and Harish Balayogi (TDP), among others. The JPC was constituted during the last winter session of Parliament after the Centre agreed to subject the ONOE Bill to detailed legislative scrutiny. Akali Dal accuses rebel Manpreet Ayali of irregularities
Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Parambans Singh Romana on Wednesday challenged dissident party leader and Dakha legislator Manpreet Singh Ayali to deny the claims that he "got his land excluded from the land pooling scheme", while the adjoining land belonging to poor farmers was notified for acquisition. Addressing a press conference, Romana said Ayali was "badly compromised" and became "totally silent on the AAP govt's land grabbing scheme whereby it wanted to take forcible possession of 24,000 acres of land in Ludhiana district alone because the govt adjusted him and excluded all land controlled by him from the scheme". The SAD leader also asked Ayali to disclose what "settlement" he made with the AAP leadership to "secure this reprieve". Showing documents and Google images, Romana alleged that a chunk of land adjacent to Avanta Enclave owned by the Ayali family and another chunk was left out of the ambit of the land pooling scheme, even as the adjoining land belonging to poor farmers was included in the scheme. "The Ayali family developed a colony – Avanta Enclave over 28 acres of land during the course of which it committed several illegalities, including a built-up area of 70% instead of 55% as mandated under law," he said. The SAD leader said when a scheme was launched to get all illegal colonies that came up before 2018 regularised by paying a nominal fee of Rs 3 crore, Ayali submitted documents to claim that Avanta Greens was constructed in 2015. Romana showed what he claimed were Google images from 2017, 2018, and 2019 when Avanta Enclave was a barren piece of land and from 2020 when kutcha roads first started being built in the Enclave. He alleged: "Ayali procured stamps in back date to do agreements with his customers, but this scam was exposed when the vigilance department approached the customers. Now, the AAP govt has details of the entire scam, and CM Bhagwant Mann even referred to this during the Ludhiana West byelections to silence him." Asking Ayali to prove him wrong, Romana said: "I challenge the leader to show one registry done to sell any one of the 93 plots in Avanta Enclave before 2018." Romana further claimed: "Details are emerging that Ayali succeeded in getting his land parcels on Hambran road and Kail village excluded from the land pooling scheme. The SAD will release details of the same once the documents are in our possession." Hitting out at Ayali, Romana said: "The badly compromised people are trying to mislead people by wearing the mask of Panth and are trying to weaken the Panth at the behest of the govt. It was necessary to unmask them." Ayali is a part of the five-member committee which has been carrying out an exercise to usher in a revived Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) "on the directions of the Akal Takht". Ayali, when contacted, denied the allegations, saying that he was even open to a CBI inquiry. "Nearly all of my urban land is coming under the land pooling scheme; 150 acres of my land is coming under the land pooling scheme," Ayali said, denying that any of his land was excluded. On allegations about a chunk of land adjacent to Avanta Enclave being excluded from the scheme, Ayali said the land being referred to was "reserved to develop commercial sites" in the approved colony and asked "how can that be included" in the land pooling scheme. "We will get this land passed as commercial," said Ayali. On other alleged irregularities, Ayali said: "They may get a CBI inquiry done. Whatever license I got, I got it after the 2019 byelection. I contested the byelection against the Congress govt at that time. Would they have left anything to do an inquiry against me? We have been fighting against the govts then and now also." He said: "Vigilance inquiries were held by the previous Congress govt and now the AAP govt as well, and everything is verified." On Google images, Ayali said: "Google images have no authenticity as these don't get updated for as long as three years. Twenty-two departments made visits and submitted reports. Whatever GLADA (Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority) asked, we submitted, and if there is even one document which is against the policy, let it be investigated."
