Guwahati: BJP achieved a unilateral win in panchayat polls by holding democratic values hostage, alleged

(Asom) on Monday. ASOM is an umbrella platform of opposition parties, except Congress.ASOM alliance president Ajit Kumar Bhuyan and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi alleged that BJP misused govt machinery to ensure victory in many panchayat bodies across the state.
They added that BJP used police to weaken opposition candidates and even blackmailed voters by threatening to withhold welfare schemes if votes were not cast in BJP's favour. This, they said, marked a new low in Assam's electoral history.ASOM also accused some BJP leaders and candidates, without taking any names, of importing unethical political practices from states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, using money and muscle power to influence the outcome. "By holding the democratic system hostage, BJP has falsely projected an image of widespread popularity in Assam," they stated in the statement.ASOM further emphasised that to defeat the anti-democratic, anti-people BJP, there is no alternative but for all BJP and AIUDF-opposing parties in Assam to unite. They argued that whenever BJP secured a sweeping victory in the past, it was due to the fragmentation of opposition votes. Similarly, in this Panchayat election, BJP capitalised on the divided opposition. They stressed that if an environment is to be created for defeating BJP in assembly elections next year, then it is imperative for all secular democratic political parties to come together, a realisation the opposition leadership must come to.Guwahati: BJP achieved a unilateral win in panchayat polls by holding democratic values hostage, alleged Asom Sanmilita Morcha (Asom) on Monday. Vijay Rupani's Last Rites With Full State Honours, State Mourning For A Day
New Delhi: The state funeral of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, who was killed in the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad, will be held on Monday with full state honours. A one-day state mourning in memory of the BJP leader will be observed. Three days after the plane crash, the body of the former chief minister was identified after DNA testing. A large team of forensic experts have been working to identify bodies of those killed in one of the worst aviation disasters in India by matching DNA with samples collected from their relatives. DNA-matching is a complex medical and legal process and involves layers of verification. It's only after an elaborate set of tests and confirmation of DNA samples, families are called up and asked to collect the bodies of their loved ones. In some cases, the analysis is repeated due to insufficient DNA material. The identification process can take up to 72 hours. The confirmation of Vijay Rupani's identification was announced by Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Sunday morning. The last rites of Vijay Rupani will be done in Rajkot. Gujarat Health Minister Rishikesh Patel earlier on Sunday said the state government will facilitate all the arrangements after the family decides on the funeral proceedings. "Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi visited late Vijaybhai Rupani ji's residence today and told the family members that his DNA has been confirmed. His family will take call on last rites and final stage preparations for cremation. After consultation with them, all arrangements will be done," Rishikesh Patel said. State MLA Reenaben Patel said a lot of well-wishers and supporters of the former chief minister in Rajkot have been waiting to pay their tributes and bid a final goodbye. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as flight AI171 from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, crashed immediately after take-off, killing 241 of the 242 people on board. Vijay Rupani was flying to London to meet his wife and daughter.

Ambedkar row: State SC panel issues notice to Lalu
Patna: Bihar State Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued a notice to RJD chief Lalu Prasad , demanding a response within 15 days as to why a case under the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act should not be filed against him for allegedly disrespecting a photograph of Dr B R Ambedkar. The incident occurred during Lalu's birthday celebration on June 11. The letter, signed by commission vice-president Devendra Kumar on June 13, read, "You (Lalu) have insulted the photo of Constitution maker Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on your birthday, which is being continuously seen on social media. The insult of Baba Saheb has hurt the honour of not only one class but the entire country. Therefore, give an explanation within 15 days and tell why a case should not be registered against you under the Scheduled Castes, Tribes Atrocities Act. " The controversy arose from a viral video showing an RJD worker placing Ambedkar's picture as a gift on a table near Lalu's feet. Lalu neither acknowledged nor touched the photograph, nor made any comment. The BJP has strongly criticised the incident. In defence, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Lalu's son and former deputy chief minister, accused the BJP of levelling false accusations. "BJP has nothing to do with the principles and policies of Baba Saheb. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Eat 1 Teaspoon Every Night, See What Happens A Week Later [Video] getfittoday Undo Today, even at the age of 78, Laluji meets people for 10 hours. But those making allegations have no shame at all. BJP should learn that even at this age Laluji remains in touch with the public," he said. Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary wrote on X on Sunday, "It has been more than 36 hours since the video of Baba Saheb's insult came out. The whole of Bihar is hurt by that video, but not even two words of regret have come from RJD. Bihar has definitely seen the arrogance of Lalu's beloved son Tejashwi. Our question is that even after insulting Baba Saheb by keeping his photo near his feet, Lalu's son does not feel it is an insult, then after what other will RJD accept as an insult?" Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor also criticised Lalu and took a swipe at the Congress. "Rahul Gandhi says don't be afraid. Lalu had his feet in front of Baba Saheb's photo. If you have the courage, then show it by giving a statement on it," he said in Muzaffarpur on Sunday. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . CM should release white paper on funds received for Union government schemes, says C.P. Radhakrishnan
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin should release a white paper on funds received for Union government schemes, said Maharashtra Governor and former BJP leader C.P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday. Mr. Radhakrishnan, who participated in the State conference of Sahakar Bhati Tamil Nadu at Maravaneri in Salem, told journalists there should be no partiality in welfare schemes, whether they are State or Union Government schemes, and people should benefit from these schemes. If Mr. Stalin felt Union government funds were not adequate for Union government schemes, he should release a white paper report and point out how these schemes benefited the people, and then say how Tamil Nadu is affected without adequate funds. It will pave the way for getting funds from the Union Government easily, Mr. Radhakrishnan added. Responding to a question on the stalemate over appointing vice-chancellors of state universities in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Radhakrishnan said, 'In my opinion, appointing vice-chancellors should be under the power of Governors . The government in Tamil Nadu uses the word 'Union Government' instead of 'Central Government,' which is a primary issue in the conflict between the Governor and the Tamil Nadu government. These terms were not used when M. Karunanidhi was Chief Minister. If the Central Government is the Union Government, then the State Government will be the Panchayat Government.' Stating that cooperative societies should be a people's movement, the former BJP leader felt cooperative societies in Tamil Nadu were successful earlier. But now many societies sustain losses allegedly due to corruption. Instead of politicians coming to the post in societies, farmers and weavers should take it over, Mr. Radhakrishnan added.
