Congress seeks judicial probe into 'corruption' under Puducherry government
It alleged that in the last four years, temple properties were "grabbed" by MLAs from the constituent parties of the NDA alliance, and bribes worth crores of rupees were taken to issue the Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) licences.
Addressing a press conference here along with former Puducherry chief minister V Narayanasami, Pradesh Congress committee president V Vaithilingam said, "The BJP says that they are the saviours of Hindu temples. But look at what is happening in Puducherry, where their MLAs are after temple properties."
There was no immediate reaction from the UT government over the allegations.
The Congress leaders alleged that huge bribes were being paid to obtain IMFL manufacturing licences and referred a BJP MLA's revelation in the assembly that Rs 12 crore was paid for a single licence.
The Puducherry PCC leaders demanded a judicial probe into all the "corruption scandals" and the instances "temple land grabbing by leaders of the All India N.R. Congress and BJP".
Earlier, they met leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and brought the issues to his notice.

ECI again asks Rahul Gandhi to submit evidence of irregularity in Karnataka Assembly election under oath
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday (August 9, 2025) again asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to submit under oath the allegations made by him on voter roll manipulation in a Karnataka Assembly Constituency. Either Mr. Gandhi should give a declaration/oath, or apologise to the country, sources in the ECI said. Mr. Gandhi had in a press conference on Thursday claimed that 1,00,250 'fake votes' were created in the Mahadevapura Assembly seat under the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka, in order to ensure a win for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Following this, the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer had issued a letter to the Congress leader, asking him to submit evidence under oath under Rule 20 (3) (b) of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. The Rule says: 'The registration officer shall hold a summary inquiry into every claim or objection in respect of which notice has been given under Rule 19 and shall record his decision thereon.' 'The registration officer may in his discretion (a) require any claimant, objector or person objected to, to appear in person before him; (b) require that the evidence tendered by any person shall be given on oath and administer an oath for the purpose,' it also says. Experts on electoral law have, however, said the rule quoted by the ECI was not applicable in this context as a complaint under it had to be filed within 30 days of publication of electoral rolls.

'Not empty claims, he has unearthed vote theft': Aaditya Thackeray backs Rahul Gandhi's allegations on ECI
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday backed Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's recent allegations of large-scale "vote theft" during elections, asserting that the Election Commission is being "operated through the BJP office". "We had been saying this for a long time now that vote theft has indeed happened across the country, and that EC is operated through the BJP office. What Rahul Gandhi has shown are not empty claims. The Congress leader has also specifically raised concerns over the alleged addition of lakhs of voters in Maharashtra just months before the state polls in 2024, alleging the votes helped the Mahayuti coalition come into power. At a press conference on August 7, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were "choreographed" by the EC to benefit the BJP, which he said appeared "immune to anti-incumbency." Citing internal analysis, Gandhi said the Congress expected to win 16 seats in Karnataka but ended up with only nine. He said the Congress investigated seven unexpected losses, zeroing in on Mahadevapura, where he alleged vote theft involving 1,00,250 votes.
