Race-by-race tips and preview for Hawkesbury meeting on Sunday

(Selections based on a soft track)
Race 1
1. Afloat has been placed in two of his four starts. He was spelled after a second at Kembla Grange and resumes here on the back of two barrier trials, finishing in the placings in each of them at Warwick Farm and Rosehill. He looks poised to sprint well fresh. 3. Tambeloa is a Tagaloa colt that debuted with a third in a small field at Newcastle. He can figure prominently here with the benefit of that experience. 4. Zougotime is on debut after four trials in total. He ran fourth in the latest of them at this track. 8. Share The Joy is resuming from a spell and was placed in a trial at this track in preparation.
How to play it: Afloat WIN.
Race 2
9. Tequisoda had a number of trials before making his debut with a second at Wyong. He was only beaten a little over 1.5 lengths in that event and looks suited by the step up to 1500m. 7. The Cristal ran fifth at Orange at her only start at Orange late last year and could be placed here, while 2. The Iron Star has the ability to run into the money. 6. Painted Wings has only had two starts and could show up in this small field without surprising.
How to play it: Tequisoda WIN.
Race 3
9. Powerhouse has had three trials in total and two recently in preparation for his first start here. He ran second in the latest of them at Warwick Farm and has the advantage of barrier one in this. 7. Gladstone Grange debuted with a sixth out of six in the Kirkham Plate at Randwick last October. He resumes here after a couple of trials. 5. Disparate is an I Am Invincible colt on debut after four trials, including two recent hitouts. 6. Don't What Me won the latest of his trials leading into this debut and bears close watching.
How to play it: Powerhouse WIN.
Race 4
4. Vanlee is a Joseph Pride-trained filly that ran well when finishing third behind Dyami at Warwick Farm at her second run back from a spell. She is yet to miss a place from three starts and has drawn ideally in barrier one. 6. Zing To Me ran an improved race when a last-start second at this track and should figure in the finish again. 9. Vidia is making her debut and has shown enough in her trials to be rated a chance, while 5. Yvette disappointed when resuming, but can improve.
How to play it: Vanlee WIN.

Clayton Douglas-trained Blue Hotel faces first Melbourne test in Quezette Stakes at Caulfield

Clayton Douglas is attacking Saturday's Quezette Stakes from a different angle to his fellow trainers. Douglas will test I Am Invincible filly Blue Hotel against more experienced opposition in the Caulfield Group 3 feature. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Blue Hotel won the Listed Dequettville Stakes in Adelaide on debut at her only two-year-old appearance in April but the Adelaide two-year-old form will be on trial in the $200,000 Quezette Stakes. Adelaide form stood up when Esha improved off a Murray Bridge maiden win to dominate her rivals at The Valley last Saturday. Douglas said the Quezette Stakes would provide a few answers to Blue Hotel's progress since emulating her dam Volcada by winning the Dequettville Stakes. • 'It will be interesting to see how my filly goes in Melbourne grade,' Douglas said. 'Saturday is going to determine how she's going and where she sits in the pecking order. 'But she seems to have really come on since her win. 'She's a good filly and I think she'll be hard to beat on what I've seen of her so far.' Winning or performing strongly against the likes of the unbeaten Scenic Point and Signature Scent would provide Douglas with the information he needed to determine the next couple of runs of Blue Hotel's preparation. Melbourne's spring program for three-year-old fillies' provided a plethora of opportunities, which could lead to the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes down the Flemington straight in November. 'It's really hard to say where she will end up,' Douglas said. 'I think she's going to be a sprinting filly but after Saturday, there's races like the Cap D'Antibes down the straight. 'There's also a race like the Coolmore or even the Poseidon or Danehill Stakes. 'A race like the Atlantic Jewel (Stakes) is an option as well.' Blue Hotel has drawn barrier eight in the Quezette Stakes, which is unlikely to hinder the filly's tactics of racing off the pace under jockey Mark Zahra. 'There will be good speed on and she can get off the speed and be hitting the line hard first-up and that will give us an idea of where to go after that,' Douglas said.

John McArdle-trained My Gladiola primed for Caulfield return in 2025 Quezette Stakes

Mornington trainer John McArdle would love a breeding school of thought to apply to My Gladiola in a campaign that will start in Saturday's Group 3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield. Breeding scholars have long believed the stock of champion stallion I Am Invincible improved significantly from their two-year-old to three-year-old seasons. 'Hopefully they're right,' McArdle said. McArdle's daughter of I Am Invincible, My Gladiola, showed abundant talent in her two-year-old season, winning a Group 3 race on debut and running second in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude at her second start. My Gladiola was spelled after a tough run in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield. McArdle said My Gladiola put on weight during her time off, requiring the grey to have three jumpouts leading up to her return to racing at Caulfield. 'She's had three jumpouts and been in work for a long time but she did go to the paddock straight after the Blue Diamond and she had a couple of months off,' McArdle said. 'She did get a bit heavy so we just brought her back into work and pottered around with her. 'She was a powerful enough girl as it was but she's certainly got bigger and stronger so hopefully that equates to improved performance.' My Gladiola's pedigree indicated she was a sprinting type but McArdle said he would cover all bases with his spring entries for the smart prospect. "This has been a smart effort." Well-bred filly My Gladiola (I Am Invincible x Villa Verde) impresses on debut at Sandown ðŸ'¥ @RedgumRacing @jamieleemott â€' (@Racing) January 25, 2025 'Going by all the data and everything, she's still got a bit of improvement in her but she's got a bit of a spring ahead of her,' McArdle said. 'Initially, I think she's similar (to her dam), a 1000 to 1200(m) horse but we'll let her tell us. Thousand Guineas but she'll also look towards the Coolmore (Stud Stakes). 'There's a lot of options for three-year-old fillies in the spring.'

She'll be better for it and should be hard to hold out from barrier three. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ NEXT BEST UNSNOOZUAL (Race 3 No.3): The Matt Laurie-trained first-starter has performed well at jumpouts leading up to his debut and has found a race that gave him a top chance to score on debut. SEA POEM (Race 8 No.4): The Lindsay Park-trained mare closed solidly at Bairnsdale at her first run for six weeks last time. She'll be much fitter for that and blinkers go on for this. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ VALUE BET A PINCH OF LUCK (Race 7 No.3): Has won a couple first-up and has saluted over the 1200m course at Bairnsdale. She could show up fresh on Tuesday. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ LAY OF THE DAY KAAZI (Race 1 No. 3): Zaaki's little brother trailed the field throughout in town on debut but has come up favourite for the first at Bairnsdale.
