Patrick Mahomes addresses Taylor Swift's ‘Swifties' crashing Chiefs training camp
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has a largely detached attitude when it comes to the fanfare his teammate Travis Kelce and world-renowned pop-star girlfriend Taylor Swift have created with their several-year relationship.
Mahomes enjoys the fanfare to a degree – he joked that the two being a real couple was something 'I gotta see it until I believe it' – but he also wants to keep things focused on football. Mahomes always defaults to getting business done on the field when he feels he's getting too deep into the celebrity gossip.
Sometimes, that gets difficult when an army of Swift's fans is all of a sudden die-hard Chiefs fans.
Mahomes addressed the 'Swifties' invading training camp for the chance of meeting their idol.
'I'm interested to see what camp looks like this year. Obviously, we got a big fan base with the Swifties coming. I'm interested to see if it's even crazier, if that makes sense,' Mahomes said on the ESPN docuseries, 'The Kingdom.'
Mahomes admitted he's more of a background character in his and wife Brittany's relationship with Kelce and Swift.
'They didn't call me. They called Brittany. I was in the back of the Facetime,' Mahomes recently told reporters.
Needless to say, Mahomes seeks a much different spotlight than Kelce does. And it's fair to say that Swift's arrival has coincided, if not directly caused, the quarterback-tight end duo to grow apart. Kelce's numbers and general performance have taken a major hit since Swift arrived.
FS1 host Jason McIntyre sees a drop-off from the Chiefs with Swift, and all her Swifties, in tow. McIntyre tabbed Kansas City as a non-playoff team this coming season.
'T-Swift drops new album, as T-Kelce drops out of playoffs,' McIntyre joked on 'The Herd.'
'I'm sorry, I got to stick to it guys. I've been on this boat for months. I get it, the wide receiver room should be upgraded...But I got to see it.
'I don't see it from Kelce, I didn't see it in the playoffs. Obviously we're Taylor Swift fans here on the show, but I'm sorry, I see some drop off from the Chiefs.
'It's tough to stay on top forever without reinventing yourself and I didn't see the reinvention this offseason...I know it's crazy, but I don't have the Chiefs in the playoffs and I'm sticking with it.'
Mahomes may never outright admit it, but it's fair to wonder if he wishes the Swift hysteria had never happened.

Mainz overcomes Dynamo Dresden 1-0 in German Cup
BERLIN (AP) — Nadiem Adli's brilliant free kick was enough for Mainz to overcome Dynamo Dresden 1-0 in the first round of the German Cup on Monday. The former Germany midfielder lifted the ball over the defensive wall and in off the right post in the 22nd minute, the only goal from a game in which second-division club Dresden missed more chances. In the final minute, Jakob Lemmer hit the side netting, leaving many home fans with their heads in their hands. Mainz coach Bo Henriksen was sent off shortly beforehand for holding onto the ball as the tension increased in a nervy finale. Fortuna Düsseldorf won at third-division Schweinfurt 4-2, and Hertha Berlin's match at second-division rival Prueßen Münster was going to extra time after finishing scoreless. Borussia Dortmund was playing later at nearby Rot-Weiss Essen. Essen, which won the German championship in 1955, is in the third division. ___ AP soccer:

Taylor Swift releases new 'The Life of a Showgirl' album cover after teasing fans with cryptic purple countdown on her website
The new album is set for release on Oct. 3. What was Taylor Swift counting down to on her website today? It appears to be...a vinyl drop. She announced the first and only pressing of the "Shiny Bug" collection, which features a "wintergreen & onyx marbled" vinyl as well as a "violet shimmer marbled vinyl" option. Each features the same new photo of Swift in a black bejeweled leotard, black sparkly gloves and fishnets. The new vinyls are only available until Aug. 20, or until supplies last. This article was originally published at 12:43 p.m. on Aug. 18. Oh, Taylor Swift, what are you up to now?! The pop star is teasing fans yet again with a countdown on her website — but instead of the orange-and-green color scheme she's currently using to promote her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, Swift's latest countdown is purple. The countdown appeared on Aug. 18 and is slated to end at 2 p.m. ET the same day. The website features a ticking clock with a glittery purple background, and the whole rest of the website is currently shut down — meaning there's no way to purchase merch right now. Swift's website isn't the only place purple is being used to promote whatever this upcoming announcement is. If you type 'Taylor Swift' into Google, purple confetti rains down on the screen. A red fiery heart emoji also appears, with a purple text block that reads 'And, baby, that's show business for you.' This is the same thing that happened with Google ahead of Swift's Life of a Showgirl album announcement; however, now the orange is swapped out for purple. And, if you go on Swift's Apple Music page, the image also features glittery purple. Obviously, fans online are freaking out about what all this purple could mean. Some are certain that it's a merch drop for The Life of a Showgirl, since merch sales are currently disabled. Some are hopeful that this purple moment could signal the release of Swift's first single off the album. Others, however, have bigger aspirations: Some believe that this countdown could end with the reveal that The Life of a Showgirl is actually a double album, with the second album featuring a purple color scheme. As TikToker Britton Rae said in a video about the countdown, Swift's latest antics are making her feel 'a little delulu,' aka 'delusional,' and convinced that another album is coming — especially given the fact that Swift officially announced Showgirl at exactly 12:12 a.m. on Aug. 12. 'She was very adamant that this album only had 12 tracks on it,' the TikToker said, pointing to Swift's New Heights podcast interview with boyfriend Travis Kelce. 'What if there's another album that also has 12 tracks on it, and that's why we've done the 12:12?' Others, however, are convinced this countdown could lead to an Eras tour documentary. One TikToker pointed out in a video that this purple glitter 'could maybe lead to the behind-the-scenes of the Eras tour, since The Life of a Showgirl is 'behind the curtain.'' The TikToker also noted that Swift recorded unseen footage from her final three shows of the Eras tour in Vancouver, British Columbia. Whatever happens, Swift certainly has plenty of surprises in store for fans. Stay tuned! Solve the daily Crossword
