Johor leads Malaysia's GDP growth with 6.4% surge in 2024
The state's Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han said that, based on a report by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, Johor recorded a GDP growth of 6.4 per cent, surpassing the national growth rate of 5.1 per cent.
'I would like to express my gratitude and pride for the official report which confirmed that Johor recorded the highest GDP growth in Malaysia for 2024, surpassing the national growth rate,' he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
He said Johor's GDP has now reached RM158.0 billion, strengthening its position as one of the main contributors to the country's economy along with Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak.
The outstanding achievement was contributed by balanced growth in several sectors, including a 42.7 per cent surge in the construction sector, driven by large-scale data centre projects and digital infrastructure, such as cooling systems and high-capacity optical fibres, he said.
Lee said the state government is also actively collaborating with the federal government to implement high-impact projects such as the widening of the North-South Expressway, the Senai-Desaru Expressway, the ART project in Iskandar Malaysia, the RTS Link and the proposed Southern Route Commuter service.
Johor is also improving its investment and workforce ecosystem through initiatives such as the Johor Malaysian Investment Facilitation Centre and the Johor Talent Development Council to meet future industry demands.
He said the two main policies, namely the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and the Forest City Special Financial Zone, are aimed at strengthening the regional investment and financial services ecosystem.
'With a combination of large-scale infrastructure projects, progressive investment policies and a strategic position at the crossroads of ASEAN economies, Johor is not only recording growth but is also shaping the future of the country's economy,' he said.

Meta faces backlash in South Korea over mysterious account bans
SEOUL: A growing number of South Korean users are demanding answers from Meta after their Facebook and Instagram accounts were suspended without clear reason. Some were even flagged for violating policies related to sexual exploitation of minors, allegations users say are not only false but deeply damaging to their personal reputations. Meta Korea has acknowledged a technical error, but frustration continues to grow. Accounts remain locked, and users say there is no direct way to appeal or receive help. 'I never uploaded anything illegal,' said one user during a recent closed-door session with lawmakers. 'But now people around me are suspicious. It's humiliating.' A college student had their account suspended after uploading an illustration for a class project. Another user, who runs a wildlife-themed page, said they were banned without explanation. One user reactivated their account after a study break, only to be locked out immediately. Attorney Kim Si-eun, representing several of the victims, said Meta must comply with South Korea's Telecommunications Business Act, which requires companies to prove that any service suspension is justified. 'If they can't show cause, they must restore the accounts immediately,' she said. She also called on Meta to speed up the launch of its promised South Korea-based customer service centre, which is currently scheduled for February 2026. Shin Seung-han, director of market surveillance at the Korea Communications Commission, confirmed that the agency has submitted a formal request to Meta for written clarification. He warned that if Meta is found to have violated the law, 'we will take legal measures under existing regulations'. Choi emphasised that the situation reflects a broader problem. 'Turun Anwar rally is more significant than ICERD protest for it concerns bread and butter, survival matters'

His killer line that has inadvertently enabled the PAS-initiated rally gained even more momentum was that the issues to be raised at the Turun Anwar rally 'are of the same proportion if not bigger than ICERD' for they revolve around the livelihood and well-being of every ordinary Malaysian. Appointment of Nick Adams should be rejected, says Amanah Youth
SHAH ALAM: The appointment of conservative influencer Nick Adams as the United States Ambassador to Malaysia is seen as an insult to the country's dignity and foreign policy, says the Amanah Youth international bureau chairman Mus'ab Muzahar then said that Malaysia upholds sovereignty, regional peace, and solidarity with oppressed people, especially Palestinians. He added that allowing Adams to come to Malaysia as the US Ambassador would open the door to the US's toxic agenda and politics of hatred and said that the appointment should be firmly rejected under Article 4 of the Vienna Convention. "Nick Adams is not a diplomat or a statesman. He is merely a far-right propagandist, a staunch Trump supporter, and a vocal supporter of the Zionist Israeli regime. "His rhetoric on social media is full of hatred, racism, and Islamophobic sentiments, clearly deviating from the spirit of mature bilateral relations," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (July 13). Earlier, US President Donald Trump, via his Truth Social platform on Thursday, nominated Nick Adams as the US Ambassador to Malaysia. Trump stated that Nick is not only an extraordinary nationalist and a successful entrepreneur but also a bestselling author, speaker, and renowned commentator. Mus'ab then said that Malaysia's sovereignty allows the country to determine who is fit to represent foreign nations on its soil. "This is not a personal matter; it is a matter of principle and national dignity. Malaysia is not a testing ground for US political puppets," he said. He emphasised that they demand diplomacy that brings justice, not propaganda that divides the world. Mus'ab then said that he believes rejecting Nick Adams is not a threat to Malaysia-US relations, but rather a message that Malaysia is principled, dignified, and does not bow to the geopolitical games of that country.
