Craig Revel Horwood claims dancing helped him forget ‘abuse at home'
Craig Revel Horwood has alleged he was abused as a child.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge said dancing helped him cope.
Revel Horwood, 60, discusses his childhood and why he learnt to dance during his new UK tour Revelations – Songs Boys Don't Sing.
Speaking to ITV's Good Morning Britain (GMB), Revel Horwood also responded to comments he made about his fellow Strictly judges during his first show on the tour.
He said he was joking when he reportedly said: 'There is no other judge. I created it. They are either dead or have been sacked.'
He said of the tour: 'My father was an alcoholic. I do talk about that in the show because that led me towards the dancing.'
'And anyone at home I know that's watching this that has dealt with alcoholism, it's really, really tough, and we were abused as children, and my whole family was, and that was my only escape.
'And when I danced, it's when I really came to life. I forgot all of the abuse at home, and it made me want to do something else with my life.
'And on my father's death, I think that was when I actually realised that, after hating my father for so long, I then thought, actually he was a really good man he just had a terrible, terrible disease and it eventually killed him.'
Asked about the comments he made during his first show on April 4, he said: 'What am I going to say? Who's the best judge? Of course, I'm gonna say, me.'
He added: 'I was having a little bit of fun'.
Revel Horwood appears as a judge on the popular BBC One dancing show alongside Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.
Reflecting on the 20th anniversary of Strictly in 2024, Horwood said: 'I'll tell you why I love it so much, is because every year it's completely different.
'You change the cast and it's a completely different show. You don't know who you're going to get and you don't know where they're going to lay within the realms of dance.
'And that's what makes it interesting and exciting. It's escapism.'
Revel Horwood's tour follows on from the release of his debut solo album of the same name.
He is due to travel to cities and towns including Bath, Dundee, London, Liverpool and Swansea, ending his show in Dunfermline on June 28.

Legendary Coronation Street duo reunite after 11 years and fans can't believe it
Two Coronation Street legends have reunited 11 years after last appearing on the cobbles together, and fans can't believe it. It comes as Katherine Kelly, who played the role of Becky McDonald, posted a reunion picture with Julie Hesmondhalgh, best known for the character Hayley Cropper. Hayley was the first transgender character on a British soap and throughout her time in Weatherfield, formed close friendships with Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) and Carla Connor (Alison King), as well as Becky. After first joining the ITV programme in 2006, Becky formed an unbreakable bond with Hayley and her husband, Roy, and they remained a tight-knit family-like trio until she departed for Barbados in 2012. Then sadly, after 16 years, Hayley's time came to an end on Corrie when she decided to end her life after battling with terminal pancreatic cancer in 2014. However, Katherine's recent Instagram post has left fans rather excited, as it appears the pair are working together once more. As well as a picture of the actresses hugging with huge smiles on their faces, Katherine also shared a picture of Julie in a recording booth and another of a recording studio set up with equipment. Katherine captioned the photos: 'A day spent with one of my FAVOURITE human beings deserves a place on the grid @jhesmondhalgh.' One fan commented: "Icons! And the 'Reunited' song comes to mind.' Another wrote: 'This photo has made my day, all we need is David in the middle x' Someone else said: 'What ever this is I can't wait to watch.' Also on social media, this Corrie viewer put: 'HAYLEY AND BECKY REUNION AHHH MY GODDDDD.' While this person added: 'Always Hayley n Bex to me but both great actors post Corrie.' Emmerdale could 'move' to Manchester as ex ITV boss warns of major budget cuts
An ex-ITV boss has warned that soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street could face major changes amid budget cuts. Peter Fincham was the former Director of Television at ITV before Kevin Lygo took over. Fincham has suggested that, due to budget concerns at ITV, Emmerdale could move filming away from Yorkshire and merge production with Coronation Street in Manchester. The ex-ITV boss has predicted that following the recent announcement of daytime changes at the broadcaster, it's likely executives are looking at similar measures for the two soaps. It's the question on everyone's minds... Is Robert back for good? Read more here: — Emmerdale (@emmerdale) June 9, 2025 Discussing the soaps on The TV Podcast, Fincham said: "You've got Coronation Street being made in Manchester, Emmerdale in Leeds. 'Could you imagine, rather like the daytime consolidation, that ITV will decide to have them both made in the same place under one umbrella? Big savings. 'You still keep Emmerdale set in Yorkshire, but it could be made in Manchester and Salford, which is a bigger hub for ITV. 'I don't think that's inconceivable — it might be being planned as we speak." Emmerdale is currently made in north Leeds, while Coronation Street is mostly filmed in MediaCity in Salford. As the ex-ITV boss adds: "The new hub for Coronation Street in Salford, it cost many, many millions of pounds and it was better facilities for all the people who worked on it in the old place in the middle of Manchester."
