Rape of three minor girls in Goa: Guest house owner and manager arrested
Goa police arrested four people in connection with the rape of three minor girls. The accused include the guest house owner Rajat Chauhan and manager Mansoor Peer. Police have arrested the owner and the manager of a guest house in North Goa district where three minor girls were allegedly raped by two men, taking the number of those held in the case to four, officials said on Thursday.The girls, aged 11, 13 and 15 and residents of the same building, were allegedly raped by two men at the guest house located in Calangute area on June 7 and 8. The five had checked-in at the guest house together, they said.The two older girls are sisters.The girls' parents filed complaints on June 8 that they had gone missing a day earlier.Police formed multiple teams, and rescued them on the same day from the guest house while arresting Altaf Mujawar (19) and Om Naik (21), an official earlier said.Two more persons - guest house owner Rajat Chauhan (31) and manager Mansoor Peer (35) - were arrested on Wednesday night, Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta told PTI on Thursday.They were arrested for accommodating the minor girls at the guest house without verification and consent of their parents, thus violating laws and abetting the crime, he said.All the four accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Goa Children's Act, the police said."We are sealing the guest house and moving for cancellation of its license. The guest house management and owners will not be spared if they give room to a child in the absence of any family or relatives accompanying him or her," the SP said, cautioning all such facilities in the state.

They face charges of collecting over ₹24 lakh from the family of Rakesh Yadure of Chinchani near Chikkodi. They had lied to the young sportsperson's family that they would get him selected to the Rajasthan Royals IPL cricket team. The boy comes from a humble background. His father, a security guard, took loans to pay the conmen. Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled told reporters in Belagavi on June 12 that Susanjan had previously cheated two others using a similar modus operandi, while Diwakar appeared to be a first-time offender. Mr. Yadure, 19, had excelled in a cricket match in Hyderabad in May 2024. He posted photos and videos of the match on Instagram. The fraudsters, claiming to be selectors from the IPL team, sent him friend requests, and said he was under consideration. In December 2024, Mr. Yadure received a message claiming he had been shortlisted for the IPL team. The message included a link to a 'registration form' and requested an initial payment of ₹2,000. Over the next few months — between December 22, 2024, and April 19, 2025 — Mr. Yadure's father made multiple payments totalling ₹23.53 lakh. The duo promised fees ranging from ₹40,000 to ₹8 lakh per match. The cricketer's family filed a complaint with the Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station on May 17 this year. Dr. Guled advised people, especially the youth, to be cautious of such scams. 'We urge citizens, especially youngsters, not to fall for online claims of sports selection, jobs, or cash rewards. Always verify such claims,' he said.

Midnight ruckus in Chandigarh's Dadumajra: Six booked for brazen stone pelting, threats to public, flaunting weapons
Chandigarh Police have booked at least six youths for blocking roads, pelting stones, threatening bystanders and displaying weapons, including rods and a pistol, late-night in Dadumajra Colony on Tuesday. Based on the CCTV footage, the accused have been identified as Subhash, Ankit, Nikki, Sahil, Haseen, Batti, besides other unnamed individuals. No arrests have been made so far. According to police, the brazen incident unfolded around 11.35 pm when constables Ashish and Vijay, posted at the Maloya police station, were patrolling the area. As they approached the Small Flats area in Dadumajra Colony, they spotted 5-6 youths creating a public obstruction by audaciously parking their motorcycles on the road and hurling stones at passersby. 'Upon seeing the police, the boys started shouting. They issued threats and then fled the spot on their motorcycles. One of the stones hit a woman, Rani Devi, on the forehead,' stated constable Ashish in his written complaint. Devi immediately received medical treatment with the help of her family. The constables then resumed patrolling when around 12.10 am they encountered the same group again near Sheetla Mata Mandir in Sector 38-West. 'The group was again seen on motorcycles, creating a ruckus. As we tried to stop them, one of the motorcycles slipped. In the chaos, I overheard names being shouted—Subhash, Sahil, Ankit and Nikki. They were waving sticks, rods and pistol-like weapons before fleeing again,' constable Ashish added. Devi, after receiving treatment, gave a written statement, confirming that she was hit on the forehead by a stone thrown by one of the boys while returning from work. No signs of gunfire were reported at the scene. However, based on the statements, a case under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 191(2) (rioting), and 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered. An investigation is underway.

Police, excise nabbed 19k drug offenders this year across Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A whopping 19,168 people have been arrested so far this year for drug-related offences, while a staggering 18,427 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered in the special anti-drug drives of the police and excise departments. The numbers, said officials, indicate that drug abuse has become a huge threat for the state. Until June 11, the police registered 16,125 cases and arrested 16,953 people in the four months since the launch of their ongoing anti-drug drive 'D-Hunt' on February 22. The excise department registered 2,302 cases of drug peddling and consumption and arrested 2,215 people in the 70 days of its special drive, 'Clean Slate', the first phase of which was held from March 5 to 12, while the second, launched on April 21, is currently on. A total 1,680 kg of ganja and 8.7 kg of MDMA were seized collectively. In comparison, there were 35,690 NDPS cases registered last year – 27,530 by the police and 8,160 by excise sleuths. At the current rate, the number of cases will cross 50,000 if the special drives continue for a year. Sources from both departments said the detection rate of cases reveals drug addiction has risen at an alarming rate. 'Drug abuse has become a big threat,' said a senior police officer. However, there is a silver lining. 'One good thing is through the special drive, we busted several clandestine drug rackets. We have enhanced the deterrence value through sustained operations and pushed the rackets on the back foot. We are sensing some reluctance on the part of ringleaders, who operate from outside the state, in sending consignments to Kerala,' the cop said. While 'D-Hunt' will run till the end of the month, the excise department is expected to continue 'Clean Slate' further. Highly-placed sources said the state government might announce a new action plan later this month and both departments will be charting out new measures to counter drug supply and abuse.
