Friends star's cult comedy gets surprise revival 20 years after debut
Friends star Lisa Kudrow will return to one of her most beloved roles - but it's not Phoebe Buffay.
Best known for her 10-year stint on the beloved NBC sitcom as well as recent roles in Time Bandits and Netflix 's No Good Deed, Kudrow is reprising one of her first projects after Friends' conclusion in 2004.
HBO has officially confirmed their hit comedy series The Comeback will return for a third and final season.
In this sharp satirical look at the glitzy world of showbiz, Kudrow portrays Valerie Cherish, a B-list television actress who briefly found fame with her sitcom I'm It! in the late 80s and early 90s.
The Comeback originally aired in 2005 with its first season following Valerie after she's cast in a new network sitcom called Room and Bored and agrees to record her return to acting in a companion documentary series.
Almost 10 years later, a second season aired in 2014 and featured Valerie's career taking a darker turn.
This time, she's cast as a fictionalised version of herself in Seeing Red, an HBO drama about the abuse she suffered from Room and Bored's producer Paulie G (Lance Barber).
Seth Rogen portrays himself in the series as he's cast as Mitch in Seeing Red, the character based on Paulie, and often comes to Valerie's aid when the real Paulie shows his true colours.
A teaser trailer was released by HBO featuring Kudrow in character as Valerie confirming she's returning for a new show, but maintains this will be 'the last time'.
Created by Michael Patrick King, writer of Sex and the City and the creator of its sequel series And Just Like That…, The Comeback's final season will head into production this summer for a 2026 release date on HBO and HBO Max.

Other cast from the previous seasons include Robert Michael Morris, Malin Åkerman and Robert Bagnell, though they are not confirmed to be involved.
Executive Vice President of HBO & Max Comedy Programming, Amy Gravitt said in a statement: 'No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor.
'On the 20th Anniversary of her debut, Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow have brilliantly scripted her return to HBO and we can't wait to see that.'
And Kudrow and King added: 'Valerie Cherish has found her way back to the current television landscape. Neither of us are surprised she did.'
The Comeback season 3 will premiere in 2026 on HBO and HBO Max.

Dwyane Wade shares what he's learned as a broadcaster ahead of NBA on Prime Gig
Dwyane Wade is excited to be part of a new, star-studded team that will help Amazon kick off its relationship with the NBA this fall. The Basketball Hall of Famer will serve as an in-game and studio analyst when Prime Video launches its inaugural season of NBA coverage in October. He joins a roster of analysts for NBA on Prime that also includes his former Miami Heat teammate Udonis Haslem; fellow Basketball Hall of Famers Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki; and women's basketball legend Candace Parker, whom he refers to in a interview as his 'sister.' 'When you retire, you're not a part of a team anymore. You're not in a locker room like that anymore. So it'd be good,' he says of his role on the NBA on Prime crew. Wade looks forward to engaging in conversations on air with other former players whom he's faced on the court and those who have 'been in the same battle' as competitors in the NBA. The three-time NBA champion is also eager to announce games courtside, as he did at the 2024 Paris Olympics for NBC. 'I like just the natural reaction, being able to be the mind of the listeners, in a sense, being able to bring them to the game with understanding what they're about to watch or what they're watching,' he explains. 'I had a great time doing that with Noah Eagle in the Olympics, and so I want to continue that as well. So those things excite me.' Wade called U.S. men's basketball games at the Paris Olympics alongside Eagle, the son of popular veteran sportscaster Ian Eagle, who's been named one of NBA on Prime's play-by-play announcers. The recent TODAY with Jenna & Friends guest co-host, who previously served as a studio analyst for TNT before his work at the Olympics, praises Noah Eagle as a broadcast partner, saying he 'carried us.' He adds that there were lessons he learned from his experience at the Olympics that he can take with him into his new gig with Prime Video. 'I didn't know when I first sat down next to Noah, I didn't understand how to bring what's happening to light in 15 seconds in these sound bites, not overtalking, not giving too much, not talking over,' he says. 'We could talk a lot of basketball talk sometimes, and the fans probably don't understand what that means because we're talking about things that's locker room stuff. And so, kind of making it in a way where everyone can understand it.' Wade also emphasizes the 'power of silence': allowing viewers to hear and absorb the sounds of the game and the crowd without commentators' chatter to distract them. Similar to other players turned analysts, Wade's approach to the job is simple. 'People want to hear the way that you see the game and how you play the game, how you prepare for the game. Give them stories. Give them these little insights that they would love to have. And so, just trying to find these moments to be able to give them that locker room insight, give them that road-trip insight, give them that in-the-huddle insight.' Prime Video will kick off the first season of its 11-year deal with the NBA on Oct. 24 with an opening-week doubleheader.

Today show hosts Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie react live on air to being named in the Daily Mail + Power List
Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker have shared their responses after they were named in DailyMail+ Power List rankings. Today show co-anchor Savannah, 53, was named the morning show style queen thanks to her 'professional, yet approachable' looks. Meanwhile, Al, topped the inaugural list, sweeping the board in every category for morning show hosts. The genial New Yorker, who has been with NBC since 1978, is seen as the most likable of the 15 main breakfast show hosts included in our exclusive polling, carried out by J.L. Partners. Al, 70, is also the most fun, truthful, knowledgeable, least biased, and the host that those polled most wanted to spend time with. Both broadcasters reacted to their honors live on Tuesday's episode of the Today show. Meteorologist Dylan Dreyer announced Savannah's accolade and told viewers: 'This morning DailyMail+ is releasing its first ever power list. And they just unveiled the ranking of top morning show hosts. Guess who made the list? 'Our very own Savannah Guthrie has been crowned the morning show style queen.' Referring to her co-star Jenna Bush Hager, mom-of-two Savannah joked: 'That's because I borrow all Jenna's clothes!' 'No, I borrow your clothes and stain them and put them back in your closet,' Jenna, 43, retorted. Expressing her gratitude, Savannah added: 'That's very lovely. Thank you, Daily Mail.' Revealing Al's title during the Third Hour of Today, Dylan said: 'DailyMail+ just put out their first ever power list of morning show hosts. 'Earlier we told you that Savannah Guthrie was crowned the morning show's style queen. Al Roker was also recognized. Mr. Roker was ranked most liked, most trusted and the morning host that Americans want to hang out with.' Although visibly delighted with the honor, Al joked: 'What is wrong with you people? What is your problem?' 'Everybody loves everything about you,' Dylan pointed out. Sharing his true feelings, Al admitted that the honor is 'very nice.' 'But the fact of the matter is nobody gets to something like this without working with really good people,' he added. 'So that allows you to do whatever somebody thinks is nice.' DailyMail+ unveiled its inaugural Power List this Tuesday, giving the definitive ranking of the most influential figures in American media. Based on exclusive polling, our Power List captures public sentiment around likability, trustworthiness, perceived bias and knowledge. Essentially, it tells you who Americans like and trust… and who they don't. In terms of overall shows, our list sees NBC's Today emerge as the resounding network winner. On top of Today veteran Roker's triumph, his NBC colleagues Jenna, Carson Daly, and Hoda Kotb — who stepped aside from the network earlier this year — all rank positively, too. Today insiders were unsurprised by the results, with a senior source telling the Daily Mail that network execs were quietly delighted by the findings.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner cause of death revealed as first responders spent 20 minutes doing CPR
The Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner's cause of death has been revealed. Costa Rican cops ruled his cause of death as asphyxiation by submersion. First responders from Costa Rica's Red Cross found him without vital signs and he was taken to the morgue. 'He was rescued by people on the beach,' the department's initial report said. CPR was performed on him for around 20 minutes, according to People. The actor was 54-years-old when he died by accidental drowning in Costa Rica, authorities there said Monday. Costa Rica´s Judicial Investigation Department said Warner drowned Sunday afternoon on a beach on Costa Rica´s Caribbean coast. He was swimming at Playa Cocles in Limon province when a current pulled him deeper into the ocean. Another man has been left critically injured and he was rushed to the hospital. Warner created many TV moments etched in the memories of Generation X children and their parents, including a pilot-episode argument with Cosby about grades and careers, and another episode where Theo tries in vain to hide his ear piercing from his dad. Theo was the only son among four daughters in the household of Cosby's Cliff Huxtable and Phylicia Rashad´s Clair Huxtable on the NBC sitcom, and he would be one of the prime representations of American teenage life and Black boyhood on a show that was the most popular in America for much of its run from 1984 to 1992. Warner worked for more than 40 years as an actor and director, also starring in the sitcoms 'Malcolm & Eddie' and 'Read Between the Lines,' and in the medical drama 'The Resident.' His final credits came in TV guest roles, including a dramatic four-episode arc last year on the network procedural '9-1-1,' where he played a nurse who was a long-term survivor of a terrible fire. 'I grew up with a maniacal obsession with not wanting to be one of those `where are they now kids,´' Warner told The Associated Press in 2015. 'I feel very blessed to be able to have all of these avenues of expression ... to be where I am now and finally at a place where I can let go of that worry about having a life after `Cosby.´' He played Theo Huxtable for eight seasons, appearing in each of the 197 episodes of 'The Cosby Show' and earning an Emmy nomination for supporting actor in a comedy in 1986. Actor Viola Davis was among those giving tribute Monday. 'Theo was OUR son, OUR brother, OUR friend. He was absolutely so familiar, and we rejoiced at how TV got it right!!', The Oscar winner said on Instagram. 'But Malcolm got it right ... we reveled in your life and are gutted by this loss.' Like the rest of the 'Cosby Show' cast, Warner had to contend with the sexual assault allegations against its titular star, whose conviction in a Pennsylvania court was later overturned. Warner told the Associated Press in 2015 that the show's legacy was 'tarnished.' 'My biggest concern is when it comes to images of people of color on television and film,' Warner said. 'We've always had `The Cosby Show´ to hold up against that. And the fact that we no longer have that, that´s the thing that saddens me the most because in a few generations the Huxtables will have been just a fairy tale.' Representatives for Cosby declined immediate comment. Warner's first major post-'Cosby' role came on the sitcom 'Malcolm & Eddie,' co-starring with comedian Eddie Griffin in the popular series on the defunct UPN network from 1996 to 2000. 'My heart is heavy right now,' Griffin said on Instagram Monday. 'Rest easy my brother for you have Won in life and now you have won forever eternal bliss..' In the 2010s, he starred opposite Tracee Ellis Ross as a family-blending couple for two seasons on the BET sitcom 'Read Between The Lines.' He also had a role as O.J. Simpson's friend Al Cowlings on 'American Crime Story' and was a series regular on Fox's 'The Resident.' 'First I met you as Theo with the rest of the world then you were my first TV husband,' Ross said on Instagram. 'My heart is so so sad. What an actor and friend you were: warm, gentle, present, kind, thoughtful, deep, funny, elegant.' Warner's film roles included the 2008 rom-com 'Fool´s Gold' with Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. A poet and a musician, Warner was a Grammy winner, for best traditional R&B performance, and was nominated for best spoken word poetry album for 'Hiding in Plain View.' Warner also worked as a director, helming episodes of 'Malcolm & Eddie,' 'Read Between the Lines,' 'The Resident' and 'All That.' Warner, named after Malcolm X and jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal, was born in 1970 in Jersey City, New Jersey. His mother, Pamela Warner, served as his manager when he began pursuing acting at age 9. In the early 1980s, he made guest appearances on the TV shows 'Matt Houston' - his first credit - and 'Fame.' Warner was 13 when he landed the role of Theo in an audition after a broad search for the right child actor. Cosby was a major star at the time, and the show was certain to be widely seen, but few could've predicted the huge phenomenon it would become. For many the lasting image of Theo, and of Warner, is of him wearing a badly botched mock designer shirt sewed by his sister Denise, played by Lisa Bonet. The 'Gordon Gartrell' shirt later became a memeable image: Anthony Mackie wore one on 'The Tonight Show' with Jimmy Fallon and the profile picture on Warner´s Instagram shows a toddler sporting one. Warner would develop a love-hate relationship with the character. 'Theo was very good to me. And I think that show and that role is timeless. And I´m very proud of that role,' Warner said in a recent podcast interview, while noting that he´d tried to separate himself from the role and for years would recoil when fans addressed him as Theo. 'Part of the distancing for me is not wanting to see how much of Malcolm is in Theo. I remember doing the show and I always thought that Theo is corny. I want Theo to be cooler,' he told Melyssa Ford on her 'Hot & Bothered' podcast. 'Somebody called me America´s favorite white Black boy. And I was 15. ... It hurt me. ... That´s cultural trauma.' Warner was married with a young daughter, but chose to not publicly disclose their names. His representatives declined immediate comment on his death.
