Lisa Kudrow Met Her Future Husband, Michel Stern, When He Was Dating Her Roommate
Friends star Lisa Kudrow has been with her husband Michel Stern for 30 years, but they are very careful about what they share in public. The French advertising executive has mostly hung back and allowed his wife to take the spotlight, though he has been at her side during some key red carpet moments. They were photographed in 2005, at the premiere of her hit HBO's series The Comeback, at the 10th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, the 58th Emmy Awards, and other big events. Here's everything there is to know about Lisa Kudrow's husband, Michel Stern. Michel Stern is French and was born and raised there, per an interview Kudrow did with The New York Times in 1995. He worked in advertising and then expanded his career in the United States. Very little is known about him publicly, but he is apparently a fan of Friends, too. When the show had their reunion special in 2021, Kudrow said of seeing her old episodes with her husband: 'Michel and I started watching some of season 4, which I thought I had watched, it's as if I didn't. He enjoys them more than I do. Because I'm mortified with myself.' They first connected years before they started dating, as he was her roommate's boyfriend. 'I was living with [a] French girl, and he had just moved here, and they were dating when we first met. But I'm freakishly polite, so I saw him and went, 'Well, he's the perfect man, and it's all ruined because now they're together and I can't [make a play for him],'' said Kudrow, according to a 2015 report from The Daily Mail. 'I thought that that's not nice, to flirt. But the minute I saw him I went, 'Well, that's it, there he is.'' Stern and Kudrow's roommate broke up six months later, but she and Stern didn't reconnect for years. 'Six years later, I met him again at her birthday party, and we just never stopped [talking],' she explained. The couple got married in 1995. In May 2020, in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live, she explained they were celebrating their 25-year anniversary apart because of complications with lockdown. 'We were all together in the desert because we have a house there. And then there was the lock-in, so we just stayed put,' she shared. 'But that house needed then what happened was, it got to be hotter, as it does in the Palm Springs area, right? So, it was too hot for me.' She continued, 'We are so used to not actually being able to be together on our anniversary that we were like, 'Oh, well. Does it matter? I love you. You still love me? Yeah. Great. We're good.'' Stern and Kudrow have a son, Julian Murray, whom they welcomed in 1998. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 2021, which Kudrow celebrated online. She shared some adorable family snapshots on his most recent birthday, in which Stern can be seen holding him as a baby. Kudrow's pregnancy was famously written into the show, with her character Phoebe offering to be a surrogate for her brother Frank. In 2018, she told People that the cast was super supportive of her pregnancy. 'The six of us would do a huddle backstage and just say, 'All right, have a good show, love you love you love you love you,'' she said. 'And when I was pregnant, then they would say, 'Have a great show, love you love you love you, little Julian!' 'Cause we knew it was a boy, and that was his name.' Kudrow shared relationship advice with Glamour in a 2014 interview. 'When [Michel and I] decided to get married, we understood: We're not promising to love each other forever, because you can't do that, but we are promising to work on whatever problems come up,' she began. 'We're committed to our marriage working. It turns out, after you have a history, there's such a bond, and love takes another shape. But, oh, I don't want to jinx it—I'm superstitious!' She added, '[Michel and I] respect each other's independence, and I don't mean that as a euphemism. I don't mean relationship-wise outside the marriage. Clear? But I don't like to travel. So if he wants to go on a golf trip, he goes. I think people get in trouble [when they assume they're] supposed to be one unit, in sync about everything. [Marriage] is like being on a team. Each teammate is different, but you have the same goal.'

Why Lisa Kudrow thought Christina Ricci was making fun of her when she claimed to be 'a huge 'Friends 'fan'
Like countless TV viewers all over the world, Christina Ricci is a big-time Friends fan. But apparently you wouldn't know it even if she told you right to your face — just ask Lisa Kudrow. In a recent video interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ricci recalled how she and Kudrow got off to an awkward start when they worked together on the 1998 movie The Opposite of Sex and Ricci tried to compliment her costar's work on the beloved NBC sitcom. "I was such a huge Friends fan," Ricci said. "Well, when I told her that, she thought — I have such a… sort of deadpan delivery that she thought I was making fun of her. And I was, 'No, no, no.' And [director Don Roos] had to be like, 'Oh, no, no, no. She really loves Friends. She's not being sarcastic.'" By then, the show about six New York pals navigating their 20s and 30s was already a monster hit. Kudrow herself had been nominated for Emmys — and won the trophy that year — for her portrayal of free-spirited "Smelly Cat" singer Phoebe Buffay. Ricci, meanwhile, was known for her work in such movies as The Addams Family, Casper, and Now and Then. With projects like The Opposite of Sex and The Ice Storm, she began to transition to more grown-up fare, ultimately becoming something of an indie film queen. Related: Christina Ricci stood up to a ghost while filming in a defunct mental asylum: 'Don't mess with me' The Opposite of Sex starred Ricci as Dedee Truitt, a pregnant runaway who stirs up trouble when she visits her half-brother, Bill (Martin Donovan), and seduces his boyfriend. "It's about getting knocked up," the narrator says in the trailer for the dark comedy. "But it's also about knocking someone off." Kudrow played Lucia, Bill's protective best friend who's quite suspicious of Dedee. The Sony Pictures Classics film garnered positive reviews and grossed about $5.9 million at the box office. Ricci later got to prove herself as a Friends diehard when she guest-starred as one of Matt Leblanc's many sisters in a 2005 episode of his Joey Tribbiani-centric spinoff show, Joey. Alan Cumming is 'sure there's going to be a dance number' in 'Romy and Michele' sequel: 'There's got to be'
Alan Cumming isn't going to miss out on the next reunion. The Traitors host will join Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino in the long-awaited sequel to Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, he confirmed to Yahoo Entertainment. He played Sandy Frink in the 1997 cult classic. Cumming played coy at first when asked if he could tease the premise of the forthcoming film. "It's not allowed," he told Yahoo on Feb. 8 at the AARP's Movies for Grownups Awards, which he hosted. "It's actually not allowed." See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. By signing up, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy. However, Cumming — who said production will likely begin this summer — confirmed he's spoken with Kudrow. "We were actually having a chat about Sandy, they're going to do some rewrites on Sandy, which I think are great," Cumming continued. "I loved it. Then they had some other ideas and I talked to her and was like, 'Ooh, I like that even more.'" When asked if the sequel will feature another dance number with Sorvino and Kudrow, Cumming seemed more than hopeful. "I'm sure there's going to be a dance number, there's got to be. I mean, it's so funny that it's so iconic, that [scene]," he said. Cumming's character, Sandy, was a geek in high school who shows up at the reunion as a very wealthy and successful businessman. He was always in love with Michele, but the standout scene at the end of the film involved all three characters. "I did a thing the other day for Vanity Fair. You know, when you look at your old films and you talk about them, and I remember that we got nominated for an [MTV Movie Award for] Best Dance Sequence. We didn't win, we were robbed," the actor said. Cumming recalled how in the original script, there was just one sentence: "That Sandy, Romy and Michele do a modern interpretive dance." "My god, we rehearsed for ages," Cumming said, adding that they all worked with a choreographer. "It was not ad-libbed." On Jan. 29, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Sorvino and Kudrow were in final negotiations to star in the sequel along with many involved in the original. The actresses will also serve as executive producers. Tim Federle will direct, and Robin Schiff, who wrote the original screenplay, is writing the sequel. When Yahoo talked with Kudrow in December, she appeared to hint at the possibility of a sequel. We asked if she had done any projects, like Romy & Michele, that she wouldn't want to be revived or rebooted. "I think it's OK," the Friends star said at the time. "Reboot whatever you want."
