The Comeback stars Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, an actress who appeared on a hit sitcom in the early 1990s who's trying to make her way back into the spotlight. The first season, which premiered in June 2005, follows her as she's cast in a new comedy, with the stipulation that she also appear in a reality show about the making of the scripted series.
Season two saw Valerie cast in an HBO project about the sitcom writer who made her life hell in season one, earning widespread acclaim professionally even as her personal life was falling apart.
As for season three, 'Valerie Cherish has found her way back to the current television landscape. Neither of us are surprised she did,' Kudrow and King said in a statement.
Added Amy Gravitt, executive vp comedy programming for HBO and Max, 'No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor. On the 20th anniversary of her debut, Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow have brilliantly scripted her return to HBO, and we can't wait to see that.'
Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman and Damian Young are set to reprise their roles from past seasons. Kudrow, King, John Melfi and Bucatinsky are executive producing the final season.
Along with the announcement, HBO released a video of Kudrow as Valerie teasing the new season. Watch it below.

Marc Maron Reveals the Cost to Use a Taylor Swift Song — and the Mutual Celebrity Friend Who Helped Him Get Access
The comedian and podcaster used Swift's 'Bigger Than the Whole Sky' for his soon-to-be-released stand-up special Marc Maron said getting the rights to Taylor Swift's music doesn't come without a hefty price tag. The comedian and podcaster, 61, spent major dollars in order to use a specific song from the pop star's catalog for his upcoming stand-up special, he revealed on the July 25 episode of Vulture's Good One podcast. Licensing Swift's song 'Bigger Than the Whole Sky' — a bonus track on the 3am Edition of her 2022 album Midnights — cost about "$50,000," Maron said. He added that he felt he needed the specific track for a pivotal moment in his HBO special, Marc Maron: Panicked, so he reached out to a mutual friend, Jack Antonoff, for help. 'I know Jack Antonoff enough to text him — and he's the co-writer on that song,' Maron explained. 'I said, 'I don't know what's proper or how to do this, but we're running out of money on this thing. It's probably going to come out of my pocket. Is there anything you can do about this song or talk to Taylor?' ' Maron said Antonoff, 41, advised him to go through official music licensing channels, and he was ultimately able to get approval to use the track. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! 'It was doable,' Maron said, adding, however, that the tens of thousands of dollars only covered the use of one minute of the song. 'I would have gone over the minute, [but] it would have been more money,' he explained. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Maron said he doesn't know if Swift, 35, has heard the specific joke in the special that her team signed off on, but he was 'manifesting' that she would indeed like it if she did — for the sake of his project. 'It had to happen,' Maron said. 'The real fear [was], like, [if] she doesn't let you use it, and then what do you do? You can't do the bit on the special.' While Maron didn't reveal the content of the bit in question, he has spoken about Swift's music — and his journey to becoming a Swiftie — in the past. 'I'm an open-minded guy, and I like music. I [wanted] to try to figure out what it is about Taylor Swift that everyone never shuts up about," he said on a May 2023 episode of his long-running podcast, WTF with Marc Maron. Maron said he ended up listening to Swift's Midnights album on a hike, and he was impressed with what her heard. 'I'm like, 'Alright. I get it.' It's pop music, but it's not dance music [and] it's, sort of, emotional. There's a lot of longing and sadness and isolation and processing these overwhelming feelings of melancholy," he recalled. When previously discussing the new special, the comedian said, per Deadline, that he felt like 'this is the best work' he's ever done, adding, 'Everything came together." Maron's latest creative endeavor comes two years after his last HBO special, the critically acclaimed From Bleak to Dark, which explored grief and the experience of losing his partner, filmmaker Lynn Shelton, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Marc Maron: Panicked premieres on HBO on Friday, Aug. 1, at 8:00 p.m. EST. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max. Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword

Billy Joel fires back at persistent DUI rumors that have plagued his reputation for years
Billy Joel set the record straight on longstanding rumors that he was charged with driving under the influence. The "Piano Man" addressed the DUI allegations in his new, two-part HBO documentary, "Billy Joel: And So It Goes." Joel, 76, who was recently diagnosed with a brain disorder, was involved in a number of car accidents over the years, but denied that alcohol had any involvement. "I didn't like the tabloid kind of press. For example, there's this rumor that I have all these DUIs," Joel said, per People magazine. "That never happened." He added, "But people keep repeating the myth. 'Oh, he's got so many DUIs.' I never had a DUI. So f--- you." Joel asserted that "the press can be mean," and admitted that "having that much attention paid to you is not easy." The "Movin' Out" musician crashed his car multiple times in a three-year span beginning in 2002. He told the New York Times magazine in 2013 that the incidents were due to his "mental fog," not being under the influence. "I never had a DUI in my life. That's another fallacy. Look at the police records," he told the outlet. "My mind wasn't right. I wasn't focused. I went into a deep, deep depression after 9/11. 9/11 just knocked the wind out of me, and I don't know even now if I've recovered from it. "It really, really hurt that man could do that to man. And then there was a breakup with somebody, and it took me a while to get me back on my feet again." Joel revealed his normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) diagnosis in May, and said that the condition had been "exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance." The statement at the time continued, "Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health." NPH is a condition that happens when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain. This condition is most likely to occur in people over age 65. Treating this condition involves surgery to implant a shunt to drain excess fluid from the inside of the skull, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Joel canceled all of his tour dates earlier this year to recover from a "recent surgery and to undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors." The "We Didn't Star the Fire" musician married his fourth wife, Alexis Roderick, during a surprise wedding on July 4, 2015. The couple has two daughters together.
