What's The Funniest Way You've Misused A Car?
Cars are carefully engineered with specific primary use cases in mind, whether that specific use is lapping racetracks as quickly as possible, traversing the toughest terrains without breaking a sweat, pushing the boundaries of fuel efficiency, or towing the heaviest trailer possible. In the real world though, owners rarely use cars strictly for their intended purpose. You've got many heavy-duty pickup trucks that serve duty as daily-driven family haulers, and many seriously capable off-roaders that never leave the comfort of paved roads.
While not all of these unintended roles are particularly exciting, you may find yourself using a boring car in an exciting or funny way every now and then. Whether you've used a Mazda Miata as a moving van, a Hummer H2 as a time attack truck, or a Mercedes-Benz S-Class for your mobile pet grooming service, we want to hear about it. What's the funniest way that you have misused a car?

The funniest way that I've misused a car was when I repeatedly thrashed my 2003 Honda CR-V off-road, including taking it mudding and getting stuck on some off-road trails. Okay, yes, the Honda CR-V is allegedly engineered to tackle some light off-road excursions. My EX model had Honda's RealTime all-wheel drive, but its Civic-based chassis and half-hearted ability to send about 50 percent of the engine power to the rear wheels prove that the CR-V is not primarily designed to be a mud slinging 4X4.
I gotta say though, my CR-V was a surprisingly willing participant in my muddy debauchery. I kept up with my brother and his admittedly rear-wheel-drive Nissan X-Terra, and the "mudding" we did was driving rapidly through a giant puddle in a derelict construction site, but that's the best off-roading you can get when you live in a city. Regardless of the seriousness of the off-roading, the funniest way I misused a car was taking my city slicker, pavement princess CR-V through the mud, on sand dunes, and on rocky trails. What's the funniest way you have misused a car?

Subaru Just Dropped a Teaser for a Sporty New Model – Could it Be the STI Successor?
Subaru's iconic rally-derived sport sedan, the WRX STI, has been absent from the market since 2021. Although its slightly less potent sibling, the WRX, is still available for purchase from your local Subaru dealer, Subaru loyalists have long been awaiting any sort of news about an upcoming replacement for the hotter, Subaru Technica International-developed model. That lengthy wait may almost be over, according to Motor1, which reports that, "During a media session surrounding the Super Taikyu series at Fuji Speedway, Subaru Executive Managing Director and Chief Technical Officer, Tetsuro Fujinuki, confirmed a new performance model for this year's Japan Mobility Show." Although no official details have been announced yet, we can expect to learn more come October when the 2025 Japan Mobility Show begins. For the time being, however, we're left wondering what exactly Subaru might have up its sleeve. When looking at Subaru's teaser image, it seems pretty clear that whatever Subaru is planning on unveiling in November, it'll be heavily based on the current VB-generation WRX, as made evident by its distinct forward fascia, C-shaped LED headlights, and, of course, its signature hood scoop. Notable differences that set this teaser apart from the standard WRX are its aggressive front bumper splitter, its widened wheel arches, and perhaps most curiously, the blurred rear end. What's most intriguing about the rear of the car's roof is the obvious tailgate hinges, which might suggest that a hatchback variant of the Subaru WRX STI might return after a long hiatus–something that many Subaru and hot hatch fans alike will be extremely excited about. Despite the hatchback hints, the image also seems to suggest a large spoiler could be present on the rear. Keep in mind that this is pure speculation, but it seems like the details on the rear of the vehicle in the image might suggest that both four-door sedan and five-door hatchback variants of the WRX STI could be made available. Only time will tell, but we remain extremely hopeful that the beloved WRX STI Hatchback makes a glorious return. Using generative text-to-image artificial intelligence and Adobe Photoshop, we imagine what a tarted-up, STI-branded variant of the VB-generation Subaru WRX could look like. Although the render pictured above depicts a two-door coupe body reminiscent of the iconic Subaru Impreza 22B STI, an actual WRX STI would likely retain all four of its doors, or perhaps gain a fifth door in hatchback guise. Despite its coupe appearance, the above render gives us a glimpse at possible styling alterations for the STI model, such as facelifted headlights for a more aggressive look, larger grilles for increased cooling airflow, wider wheel arches with contrast painted overfenders, and, of course, an extra aggressive rear spoiler for enhanced aerodynamics. Although not many details have been officially confirmed yet, we're eagerly awaiting more information to be revealed in October of this year. We'd love to see a hatchback return to Subaru's iconic WRX lineup, so hopefully the tailgate hinges on the teaser image turning out to be a clue and not just meaningless speculation. Regardless, we're glad to see Subaru working on something sporty and exciting rather than yet another crossover. Now, if only Mitsubishi would get the hint... Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. Mercedes CEO Has a Trump Tariff Deal That Could Reshape US-EU Auto Trade
Hours before an event in Michigan on April 29, President Trump signed two executive orders aimed at reducing the impact of trade tariffs on the automotive industry. One order prevents automakers, who face 25% tariffs on auto imports, from being subject to additional levies on materials. The other order allows automakers to apply for tariff relief, which will reduce a portion of the costs associated with their imported components. However, these benefits will be gradually phased out over the next two years. During a rally that night in Michigan, Trump described this move as providing "a little flexibility" to the automotive industry, hoping to persuade automakers to produce their cars and components in the United States. He said, "We gave them a little time before we slaughter them if they don't do this. They're going to make so much money. They're going to have so many jobs." Despite the developments, German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz withdrew its earnings guidance for 2025 during the announcement of its Q1 results. This decision was driven by uncertainty regarding the potential impact of President Trump's tariffs on imported vehicles. The company also stated that if auto tariffs remained at their current levels, it would decrease profit margins by 300 basis points on cars and 100 basis points on vans. In a new interview with German business publication Der Spiegel, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius said that while he is looking at different scenarios, the kind of investments he has to make are ones that could last for decades, rather than ones made "in response to a volatile situation" such as the current US-EU tariff situation that is currently unfolding. Recognizing that the current administration has the impression "that we in Europe are closed to certain issues and only demand openness where we have strengths," the CEO proposed a deal meant to balance its imports and exports. In his proposal, Källenius would allow duty-free imports of U.S.-built cars into Europe in exchange for tariff waivers on an equal number of vehicles exported by EU automakers to the U.S., adding that it would alleviate and fulfill its desire to reindustrialize and become an attractive destination for companies to set up factories for exported goods. "For every car that leaves the USA or Europe, a car from the other side comes in duty-free," Källenius told Spiegel. "We have put this idea to both sides, and it is a possible component of the negotiations between the USA and the EU." Such a solution would work for a company like Mercedes-Benz. In the same interview, Källenius noted that Mercedes "is a major producer" of cars in the United States, adding that the company builds and sells around 350,000 vehicles in the country, which could count for consideration in trade talks. "But the models we build and sell [in the U.S.] are not the same," Källenius told Spiegel. "Two-thirds of the vehicles from our plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, are exported to 150 countries worldwide. We therefore contribute to a more balanced trade balance for the USA. We believe this should be taken into account in the negotiations." Källenius's idea of rewarding U.S. exports is roughly on the same wavelength as similar ideas proposed by other automotive CEOs. Previously, Ford CEO Jim Farley raised the idea that automakers like Ford should get credit for building cars in the United States that are shipped overseas for international consumption, noting that it is "essential" that the federal government come up with policies that encourage manufacturers to build cars for export, adding that it exports nearly as many vehicles as its brings in. "So many of the vehicles we build here are exported around the globe," Farley said. "Shouldn't we get credit for that?" Around the same time Farley made those comments, the export of some high-ticket models to China, including the F-150 Raptor, Mustang, Bronco, and Lincoln Navigator, was halted due to retaliatory tariffs as high as 150% on imported vehicles. For what it's worth, German automakers like Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz have a lot of leverage for a potential U.S. tariff deal, especially if they propose that German automakers receive credits based on the number of vehicles they produce in the United States. These aren't small potatoes, either. BMW alone manufactures some of its highest-volume models, such as the BMW X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, and XM, at its Spartanburg, South Carolina, plant, which serves both U.S. and international markets. According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, BMW is the largest automotive exporter by value in the U.S., shipping "more than $10 billion" of cars in 2024. American hands assemble these cars, no matter the badge or its supposed country of origin. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
