Vehicles parked for over 8 days maybe scrapped in Goa.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced that vehicles parked in the same spot for more than eight days will be treated as abandoned and face direct scrapping. Owners will be issued notices and given a final eight-day window to remove their vehicles. If they fail to do so, the vehicles will be seized and sent for scrapping, with no option left for the original owner to reclaim them.
Over 250 abandoned vehicles already seized in Panaji
The move comes as part of a broader road safety and traffic management campaign launched by the state government. CM Sawant recently pointed out that abandoned vehicles are becoming a nuisance, especially along newly widened roads. So far, 250 such vehicles have already been confiscated in Panaji alone.
Sawant also came down hard on roadside garages that leave damaged or unused vehicles on public roads, further choking traffic flow. He assured that strict action will be taken against these operators as well.

Another major concern flagged by the Chief Minister is the rising number of illegal rental vehicles in the state. Police have taken action against 550 private vehicles found operating as rentals without the required permissions. Reports for license cancellations have already been forwarded to the transport department.
Highlighting the severity of the issue, Sawant revealed that more than 70% of the 365 road fatalities recorded annually in Goa involved victims who were not at fault. Many of these accidents, he said, were caused by improperly managed rental cars and two-wheelers.

Abandoned vehicles left on roads for days create several problems. They take up valuable parking space, especially in busy areas, and block smooth traffic flow. This leads to jams, especially in narrow lanes. Such vehicles also become eyesores, gather dust, and sometimes turn into dumping spots for garbage. They can even pose safety risks by obstructing visibility. In tourist-heavy places like Goa, they add to the chaos and make roads look poorly managed.
