Spartans target, 3-star QB Cooper Newman to reportedly visit MSU next month
Cooper Newman of Sevierville, Tenn. will reportedly visit Michigan State for their home game against Boston College on September 6. Ryan O'Bleness of Spartans Illustrated reported the notable visit for Newman.
Newman is a three-star prospect with recruiting rating of 82.33 in Rivals' Industry Ranking system. He ranks as the No. 48 quarterback and No. 563 overall prospect in the class.
Michigan State is one of more than 10 schools to extend an offer to Newman, according to On3. Other schools to offer Newman were Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Northwestern, Maryland, Appalachian State, Marshall, Toledo, Gardner-Webb and Bowling Green.
Newman is one of many big-name visitors coming to Michigan State for a game this fall, with the Boston College matchup in week two being a massive recruiting weekend for the Spartans. Adding Newman to that list is promising and makes this weekend even bigger for the Spartans' recruitment in the 2027 class.

Michigan State football left off preseason AP Top 25 poll
For a third straight season, Michigan State football was left off the preseason Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll. The official preseason AP Top 25 rankings were released on Monday, with the Spartans failing to crack the list. Michigan State didn't receive a single vote in the preseason poll -- which isn't a surprise after three straight seasons of failing to reach the postseason. Michigan State was last featured in the preseason AP Top 25 poll in 2022 at No. 15 nationally. The Spartans were coming off a 11-2 season the year before but ultimately finished that season unranked with a 5-7 overall record. A total of six teams from the Big Ten were included in this year's preseason poll: Penn State (No. 2), Ohio State (No. 3), Oregon (No. 7), Illinois (No. 12), Michigan (No. 14) and Indiana (No. 20). Michigan State is slated to play three of those teams, with home games against Penn State and Michigan, and a road trip to Indiana.
