Video: Foreign Woman Harassed By Men For Selfies In Mumbai, Internet Reacts

NDTVa day ago
A foreign woman visiting Mumbai's iconic Gateway of India was surrounded by a group of men who began taking selfies with her without her consent. This disturbing moment was captured on video and has since gone viral.
The clip shows the solo tourist initially approached by one man who asks for a photo. Without waiting for a response, he places his hand on her shoulder and snaps a selfie. Within moments, more men rush in, phones in hand, crowding around her. In under a minute, nearly 15 men encircle the woman, some filming, others striking poses, completely disregarding her personal space.
The woman, visibly uncomfortable, says, "Rs 100 per photo."
pic.twitter.com/gqp6cyKAGD

The video soon went viral on social media.
A user on X shared the clip, writing, "See how they are putting their hands on the shoulders of foreign female tourists to take selfies, as if they were their own wives."
Someone tagged the Mumbai Police, asking them to "take action."
Another wrote, "Because of people like these the country is getting a bad name. Put people like these in jail."
"Please save these tourists from these people all over India.. they are just ruining the name of the country," a comment read.
A user said, "See how a foreign woman is being mistreated."
Last year, a Russian tourist was harassed at Delhi's India Gate by a man, who was a local dancer. A video captured him persistently trying to force the visibly uncomfortable woman into dancing with him while she attempted to take a photo. Despite her unease, the man continued filming. Instead of apologising, he uploaded the video to Instagram and disabled comments.

Billions lost to brands as AI-powered ad fraud exploits every click

The Economic Times says the illicit supply chain is 'fuelled by advanced bots, airtight automation, and low-cost black-market engagement'. Industry professionals in adtech are seeing 'a 86% YoY surge in invalid bot traffic by late 2024, with sources tracing this activity to automated crawlers and scrapers such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot skewing campaign performance and eroding trust throughout the digital marketing fraud ecosystem,' a new release said. Big names have suffered collateral damage, with one major OTT platform said to have seen 100% bot traffic and a 52% click through rate (CTR), clear signals of inauthentic activity. 'It has become very easy for fraudsters to customize a programmatic ad fraud campaign to pump up high-level engagement metrics such as reach and conversions,' Shailesh Dhuri, CEO, Decimal Point Analytics, told the publication. 'In fact, you will really only see a campaign's effectiveness once you filter out numbers from these bots.' Cyber criminals are simulating organic behaviour, such as scroll patterns, dwell times on elements, jitter and click timestamp patterns and device fingerprint characteristics, to avoid 'traditional bot and fraud filtering mechanisms.' Others are finding that some analytics dashboards now include 'fraud-adjusted views to surface ads viewed by bots and provide clear insights into real ROI'. AI-led digital fraud is a common weapon in the ad fraud arsenal, but click-jacking and AI is now being weaponized to create deepfake ads, site cloners, fake 'news,' and, especially popular among scammers, fake influencer content. Celebrity videos created by Generative AI—which purport to be endorsements, movie promotions or other forms of marketing communications—are already pasting together scam campaigns that are beating detection tools and duping consumers into engaging with sponsored content. In China, Egypt, Bangladesh, Kenya, and other markets, 'brand loss due to ad fraud' are booming. A thousand reel views on Instagram, for example, can cost an ad fraud 2025 just about a dollar, The Economic Times points out.

Gujarat ATS did not share info on Al-Qaeda operative's arrest: HM Dr G Parameshwara says it's SoP violation

BENGALURU: Following the arrest of a 30-year-old woman from Hebbal by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) for allegedly having links with a terror module linked to Al-Qaeda, Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Thursday said the investigating agency has not shared any information on this. The Gujarat ATS arrested Shama Parveen Ansari, who had been staying in Bengaluru for the last three years, on Tuesday. Shama has been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act Terrorist Act, and BNS. 'The woman alleged to have links with the Al-Qaeda network is not from Karnataka. The Gujarat ATS which arrested her has not shared any information. There were previous reports that sleeper cells are active in Bengaluru and the investigating agencies had found them,' the minister said. 'The accused, allegedly involved in manufacturing MDMA, arrived in Mysuru about 20 days ago. When one of the accused was caught in Mumbai, leads from that arrest led the police here. Even in our state, when such cases come to light, our police go to other states to arrest the accused. This is a standard procedure followed across the country,' the minister added. The ATS, along with support from local police, raided Shama's house and seized multiple digital devices. Shama, a graduate who was unemployed, was staying with her younger brother, a software engineer. She is alleged to have been a key conspirator and handling social media accounts by posting information related to radical ideology. She is accused of organising activities from Karnataka. She reportedly shared extremist videos linked to Al-Qaeda operatives on social media platforms, especially Instagram, from the house in Hebbal. She was sharing provocative and violent content, including jihadi videos and messages. The officials found out that she was running two Facebook pages and an Instagram account with nearly 10,000 followers. She was reportedly posting content related to radicalisation of youths towards terrorism.

‘Get up or I'll get you up': Flight passenger slapped for refusing to give up seat

Shocking scenes unfolded at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota on Sunday night after a man violently slapped a woman across the face for refusing to give up a seat at a Colombian terminal, sparking a full-scale brawl in the terminal. Footage of the ordeal, now widely circulated online, shows Hector Santacruz confronting Claudia Segura after she took a seat next to his wife, which he claimed was already occupied. According to reports from the Daily Mail and local outlet El Tiempo, the incident occurred while Santacruz had stepped away. Segura said she found only one empty chair when she arrived at the packed gate area, 'I didn't have any bags or clothes on me to indicate it was occupied, so I sat down,' she explained. Santacruz's wife, Karen, had informed Segura that the seat was occupied, but she was finishing a work related call and stayed seated. When Santacruz returned, he demanded she vacate the spot and became irritated when she refused. 'Get up or I'll get you up,' he warned, before asking someone nearby to film the confrontation. He then knocked the phone from Segura's hand and struck her in the face. Witnesses reacted immediately, with several men rushing to her defence and shoving Santacruz away. As tensions escalated, more travellers joined the scuffle, while Santacruz attempted to fend them off, shouting aggressively. His wife also stepped in, trying to calm the chaos. Footage taken moments later showed Segura lying on the floor as airport staff attended to her injuries. She was later taken to urgent care for treatment. 'I am affected and very afraid,' she said. Santacruz was escorted away in handcuffs by airport security to the applause of onlookers. It is still unclear whether he will face formal charges, New York Post reported. His wife later released an emotional apology via Instagram. 'The person shown physically assaulting a woman is my husband. And you don't know how much it hurts me to say this out loud,' she said, adding, 'It really hurts me as a woman, as a mother.'
