Man Utd fans spotted Amorim 'tapping up' player they now look certain to sign

Ruben Amorim has a major job on his hands this summer with Manchester United as fans believe he'd already shown his interest in one particular player during the season
Manchester United fans were left eagerly following the future of Matheus Cunha after spotting the Wolves star in conversation with Ruben Amorim - as the Brazilian nears a potential move to Old Trafford. The chat between the pair occurred during United's 1-0 Premier League home defeat by the Black Country side last month, after Pablo Sarabia netted a second half free-kick.
It was during the disappointing loss that Amorim was seen with his arm around the forward as they made their way into the tunnel.

Cunha, 26, has long been earmarked as a summer transfer target for the Red Devils who asked Wolves to pay his £62.5million ($84.4m) release clause over five years, The Athletic reported.

The club - who finished 16th and level on points with United but had an inferior goal difference - are said to expect United to meet the contractual requirements of paying the fee within two years.
While the 1-0 loss subjected the Old Trafford faithful to witnessing an eighth league defeat at home, some were certainly buoyed by spotting the conversation between the pair.

One United fan on social media went as far to joke that Amorim was "tapping up" the Brazil international by writing on X: "Amorim's literally tapping him up."
While the chat between the pair was unlikely related to Cunha potentially swapping the Molineux for Manchester, that didn't stop fans from declaring that the Brazilian was set to join the Portuguese boss this summer.
Another supporter took to the social media platform to comment: "He is replacing Alejandro Garnacho in our starting line-up next season."

The future of the Argentine star has also been a major talking point having been subject to bids from Chelsea and Napoli in January.
Amorim, who has earned praise for his candid demeanour, told Garnacho, 20, to find a new club after their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, The Athletic reported.

Despite Garnacho seemingly having to bid Manchester adieu per his manager's instructions, team-mate Amad admitted he hopes the winger remains at the club beyond this summer.
"Alejandro is a really good player and we need good players in the team," he said during United's post-season Asia tour. "I know Garna really well, so I hope to have Garna next season. It is not really a big issue for the team. Everything is good now, I think."

Ferdinand says it 'hurts' that Man Utd were beaten to £29.5m signing by rivals

Rio Ferdinand says it 'hurt' to see Manchester United miss out on the signing of Jeremie Frimpong as the right-back would have been a 'perfect' fit for Ruben Amorim's system. The Red Devils had been keeping close tabs on Frimpong's progress for well over a year, with the 24-year-old wing-back earning himself plenty of admirers across Bayer Leverkusen's historic 2023/24 season under Xabi Alonso. Frimpong followed this up with another eye-catching campaign at Leverkusen this term – and United were believed to be among the frontrunners to capture the Netherlands international this summer. But Liverpool overtook United in the race for Frimpong after begrudgingly accepting Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure for Real Madrid and the Dutchman's arrival on Merseyside was confirmed Friday. Frimpong put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Anfield and joins the newly crowned Premier League champions for a fee of £29.5million. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer,' Frimpong told the Reds' official website. 'For me, it was like, 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done,' [speaking to] my agents: 'Just get this done!' 'Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. 'I'm just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me. 'I won't let you guys down and I'll give you the energy that you guys want.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Liverpool's interest in Frimpong reportedly stretches back over a decade, with the Merseyside giants initially attempting to him up on an academy contract in 2010. But United legend Ferdinand says the move still 'hurts' as he is confident the former Celtic and Leverkusen star would have been ideally suited to the way Amorim sets up his teams. 'Frimpong is going to Liverpool which will hurt me a little bit, I've got to be honest,' the ex-United and England defender said on Rio Ferdinand Presents. 'I think he would fit the way that Ruben Amorim wants to play perfectly.' Ferdinand is, though, delighted to see United wrap up their first piece of summer transfer business by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves – subject to visa approval and registration procedures. 'I have to say, I'm really excited about Cunha signing,' Ferdinand explained. 'I'm happy we signed him, I'm happy with how aggressive we've been immediately, acting on it instantly.' After luring Cunha to the Theatre of Dreams, Ferdinand hopes to see his former club bring in a striker, a central midfielder and a right-back. More Trending He added: 'I think this is a great start to the transfer window. If I was advising the recruitment team on anything now, I would be saying: 'Please make sure you do not forget an experienced No.9',' Ferdinand said. 'I'm not going to say names, I've said the names too many times, and I would go and get a midfielder as well. 'A midfielder that can dictate the player and pass and be the orchestrator, but he also needs to have some legs about him as well. That's what Ruben Amorim's teams are about, they do that. 'Those two players would be the next ones, a centre-forward and a central midfielder, also a right-back.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Liverpool fans fear £37m star is leaving after girlfriend's social media post

There are growing fears that Luis Diaz may have played his final game for Liverpool after the forward's girlfriend penned an emotional letter to fans on social media. Diaz, 28, racked up 13 goals and five assists across an excellent individual season in the Premier League to help Liverpool clinch their record-equaling 20th top-flight title in Arne Slot's first year at the helm. It adds to the FA Cup and two Carabao Cup titles that Diaz had already won across his opening two-and-a-half years under Jurgen Klopp. Slot has been unequivocal that he views Diaz as a central figure going forward, but speculation has been mounting that the Colombia international could be set for the exit door this summer. Barcelona are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements to further strengthen their La Liga-winning squad and have reportedly placed Diaz at the top of their wishlist, alongside Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford. Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr are also believed to be exploring a possible bid for the ex-Porto star. With that in mind, it is little wonder that many fans began fearing the worst when Diaz's partner, Gera Ponce, took to Instagram to thank the Anfield faithful for 'the unconditional love' they had received throughout their time on Merseyside. 'To the incredible Liverpool fans,' Ponce said in a touching post some have read as a farewell message. 'From the first day we arrived, we felt first hand what it means to be a part of this club. 'We knew the slogan was 'You'll Never Walk Alone', but to hear them sing it with so much passion, support each other at every moment and show such unconditional love… confirmed to us that here you never walk alone. 'This fan doesn't just support, it feels. And what you have made my boyfriend and our entire family feel is something we carry in our souls.' Ponce added: 'Thank you for so much love, for so much dedication and for making us feel at home. 'Being a part of this fan is a privilege. There's no doubt: they're the best in the world. 'This is a real bond, deep and strong, that reaffirms that we'll never walk alone.' In response to the post, @theliverpoolzone_ wrote: 'I hope this isn't a farewell post [crying emoji].' 'Is this a goodbye? [crying emoji],' one Liverpool fan replied. 'I hope this isn't a goodbye post? I hope you're here to stay for a long time! [love heart emoji],' another supporter responded. 'Don't go!' @anythinglfc_ wrote, while another fan replied: 'Don't let him go, if he wants to make history, Liverpool is the team.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Barca's interest in Diaz stretches back over a year and the club's sporting director, Deco, has refused to rule out a summer move, revealing his admiration for the Colombian last week. 'We like Luis and we like Rashford,' Deco told Catalan radio station RAC1. 'However, we can't talk about players who are under contract. 'For me, it's much more important to improve what we have at home.' Diaz, meanwhile, insisted he was 'really happy' to be a Liverpool player as he spoke to the club's official website in the wake of their Premier League title triumph. 'I feel I'm going through a really good period,' Diaz said. 'I'm really happy to be here, to be part of this great institution, this great club and to have great team-mates around me. 'From the moment I arrived, I felt great pride. I always tried to work hard for this, and to see that nowadays things are working out for me fills me with pride and I'm really happy because that's what I work for. More Trending 'But we are nobodies without our team-mates. We are a team. 'The forwards and wingers always try to help with goals and assists, and right now I've achieved good numbers to back that up. 'It's about playing and then playing well, supporting the team in the way I play and enjoying it, like always.' Diaz's current contract with the English champions runs through to June 2027. Man Utd transfer target LEFT OUT of Man City's Club World Cup squad as Red Devils ‘eye controversial deal from rivals'

JAMES McATEE has reportedly been left out of Manchester City's Club World Cup squad amid links with rivals Manchester United. Shock reports claim McAtee, 22, has emerged as a target for the Red Devils this summer. 1 The playmaker has been at City since 2013, rising up through the academy before taking in a double loan spell at Sheffield United. This season saw McAtee emerge as a rotation player under Guardiola, with the ace netting seven goals in 27 outings. However, City have numerous attacking options both in midfield and out wide. Guardiola is also said to be plotting swoops for the likes of Lyon's Rayan Cherki and Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White. And that could see McAtee become available for a transfer away from the Etihad, with United thought to be circling. Now, speculation regarding his City future has heated up after McAtee was left out of the squad for the Club World Cup. The tournament runs simultaneously alongside the U21s Euros in Slovakia. Having initially not been included, McAtee has now been added to England's pre-tournament training squad. And the Mail claims it means he is unlikely to feature for City ever again, with Guardiola seemingly happy to not have him on board for the lucrative club tournament in America. To compound things, teammate Rico Lewis was also eligible for U21s selection. Bruno Fernandes enjoys dinner with Al-Hilal 'secret agent' Joao Cancelo as he faces Man Utd exit decision But unlike McAtee, he has not been called up by England as City want him to travel to the Club World Cup instead. Another factor at play is that McAtee's contract expires in 2026, with City needing to either hand him a new deal or cash in before he becomes a free agent. Guardiola previously indicated he wanted McAtee to stay, but admitted the youngster could struggle for minutes if he remains at City. Guardiola in April: 'For the age, I'd like him to stay. But I understand players want more minutes. 'He can play different positions but I don't know how the squad will be and we will see.'
