Ten Colorado Buffaloes named to East-West Shrine Bowl watch list
The East-West Shrine Bowl is an annual college football all-star game that provides draft-eligible players with a final opportunity to compete in front of NFL scouts. The 2026 Shrine Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 27 at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Colorado had six players compete in the 2025 Shrine Bowl, including Shedeur and Shilo Sanders.
Below are the ten Buffaloes who were named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000:
QB Kaidon Salter
Kaidon Salter is amid a quarterback competition against star freshman Julian Lewis, but after winning Conference USA MVP in 2023, the transfer quarterback looks to go out on a high note.
LB Martavius French
French comes to Boulder hoping to grab hold of the Buffs' starting middle linebacker role.
RB Dallan Hayden
Hayden showed flashes last year, and after Colorado lost their leading rusher to the transfer portal, he has a chance to be the Buffaloes' starting running back.
OL Xavier Hill
Hill joins the Buffs after a successful stint at Memphis, where his versatility was on full display. He can play every position on the offensive line and should start most games this year.
CB Preston Hodge
Hodge returns as Colorado's top option at the nickel position.
LB Reginald Hughes
Hughes and French are the projected top two inside linebackers on the Buffs roster. Their ability to form chemistry will be a major storyline during fall camp.
CB DJ McKinney
McKinney is set to take over for Travis Hunter as Colorado's top coverage cornerback. He could be a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
DL Amari McNeill
McNeill steps into a starting defensive tackle role, and his production will be needed for the Buffs to repeat as the Big 12 sack leaders.
DL Jehiem Oatis
After transferring from Alabama as the top defensive player in the portal (as of Dec. 18, 2024), Oatis has expectations to make an immediate impact.
OL Zy Crisler
Crisler is coming off a successful career with Illinois and seems to slot in as the Buffaloes' right guard for 2025.

Johnson, 54, faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison for violating the federal Animal Welfare Act's prohibitions against possessing, selling, transporting and delivering animals to be used in fighting ventures, according to a Department of Justice press release on Monday, Aug. 4. Johnson, a 1993 Heisman Trophy contender, also faces a fine of up to $250,000 on each of the six felony counts. Following the verdict, the Haskell, Okla. native surrendered to the government 190 'pit bull-type' dogs seized in the case. According to the release, 'the government is pursuing forfeiture of these dogs.' Johnson was charged with the felonies in March, in what the DOJ said at the time was the largest number of dogs ever seized from a single person in a federal dog fighting case. Federal authorities alleged Johnson ran the dog-fighting ring under the name 'Mal Kant Kennels' in Haskell and in Broken Arrow, Okla. 'Johnson selectively bred 'champion' and 'grand champion' fighting dogs — dogs that have respectively won three or five fights — to produce offspring with fighting traits and abilities desired by him and others for use in dog fights,' the DOJ said in a news release at the time. 'Johnson marketed and sold stud rights and offspring from winning fighting dogs to other dog fighters looking to incorporate the Mal Kant Kennels 'bloodline' into their own dog fighting operations.' Johnson previously pleaded guilty to state animal fighting charges in 2004 after he was arrested for running Krazyside Kennels, which doubled as a dog-fighting ring. The former Northern Illinois University athlete played in the NFL for six seasons for the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals. Kaden Honeycutt to fill in for injured Stewart Friesen during playoffs
Just a couple of weeks ago, this headline wouldn't have made any sense, and yet, it is happening. When Stewart Friesen was seriously injured in a dirt modified crash, the No. 52 Halmar-Friesen Racing Toyota needed to find a replacement driver as the team is set to take part in the championship playoffs. Enter Kaden Honeycutt, who was abruptly let go from his full-time ride at Niece Motorsports this week for signing with a rival team and manufacturer for 2026 (believed to be TRICON and Toyota). Honeycutt is also bound for playoffs, sitting 73 points above the cut-line. While Christopher Bell will drive the No. 52 at Watkins Glen, Halmar-Friesen has announced a new partnership with Honeycutt for the rest of the 2025 season. Both will be be able to fight for the championship as a duo after one lost its driver and the other lost their ride. Stewart Friesen, Halmar-Friesen Racing Toyota Honeycutt's first race in the No. 52 will be at Richmond Raceway next weekend, which serves as the regular season finale for the NASCAR Truck Series. "While I continue to recover, it was important for us to put someone in our truck that can help us compete at the highest level," said Friesen. "I know Kaden will deliver strong performance in our truck and allow us to continue to run for the owner's championship." Honeycutt has not yet win in the Truck Series, but he has been solid, currently sitting sixth in the championship standings. "It's an honor to be able to fill in for Stewart for the rest of the season and help give his team a chance at the owner's championship, which they earned.
