One Of The Best TV Shows Ever Made Lands On Netflix Today, A Must-Watch Thriller

Forbes03-07-2025
Mr. Robot Netflix
Evil mega-corporations, brilliant hackers, mind-bending twists and nefarious conspiracies. If you enjoy this kind of thing, you're in luck. One of the best thriller TV shows ever made just landed on Netflix, and you absolutely need to watch it ASAP.
Created by Sam Esmail, Mr. Robot tells the story of brilliant hacker, Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek). Elliot is the tech security version of Superman: By day, he works at cybersecurity firm Allsafe. By night, he hacks wrongdoers. Elliot is recruited by a mysterious anarchist hacker known only as Mr. Robot and begins working with a group of hacktivists called fsociety, whose singular goal is to bring down mega corporation E Corp (referred to as Evil Corp by the hackers).
Elliot ends up joining the hacker group and things quickly get wildly out of control. From here, things take . . . some very interesting and surprising turns. If Fight Club had been more about hacking than, well, fighting and blowing stuff up, you'd have a sense of what this show is about. Twisty, unexpected, and deeply creative, each season throws you for a new loop. The story can be downright confusing at times, but it's tightly written and the cast is exceptional. Just when you think nothing is making sense, a new revelation ties it all together.
This is a great fan-made 'Cinema Style' trailer that really captures the vibe of the show without giving away any major spoilers. Give it a watch:
Christian Slater plays the mysterious Mr. Robot, a character whose true identity is central to the plot and to Elliot's trajectory. Carly Chaikin plays Elliot's sister, Darlene, a founding member of fsociety. Martin Wallström takes on the role of corporate villain, Tyrell Wellick, an enigmatic and shadowy figure. Other cast members include Portia Doubleday, BD Wong and Grace Gummer.
Fans of political thrillers and sci-fi who want something genuinely unique, that explores heavier themes like mental illness, near-future dystopian technology and surprisingly creative cinematography and narrative structure, will find a lot to love in Mr. Robot.
Add to this the exceptional original score by Mac Quayle, and you have one of the best shows on Netflix period. Actually, I need to use this as background music for a tabletop cyberpunk RPG. It's been years since I've watched it, and I think it's time to watch it all over again now that all four seasons are streaming on Netflix.

Fact Check: TikTok Video Labeled "Important Prayer From Pope Leo" Is NOT Authentic

Did Pope Leo XIV issue an important prayer for all Americans on July 25, 2025? No, that's not true: A video originating on TikTok features an AI generated likeness of Pope Leo XIV speaking. The voiceover includes a prayer which does not match recently published public messages from the Pope. The fabricated video first appeared on TikTok account named @prayerswithpopeleo on July 25, 2025 (identical version archived here). This account was deleted from TikTok on July 28, 2025. The post used the following hashtags: #popeleoxiv #god #jesuslovesyou #jesuschrist #jesus #robertfrancisprevost #prayer This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing: On July 25, 2025 Pope Leo XIV posted only one message on the official @Pontifex account on X (embedded below). The social media post contains a link to the full text of his message (archived here) titled, "Message Of Pope Leo XIV For The 111th World Day Of Migrants And Refugees 2025" that was posted on the Vatican website the same day. The text of the authentic July 25, 2025 message from Pope Leo XIV does not contain similarities with the prayer in the AI generated TikTok video. A search in the index (archived here) of partner news sites and wire services for "Pope Leo prayer so all Americans have a good night" returned a link to a reel on Facebook with a copy of the AI-generated @prayerswithpopeleo TikTok video. A search (pictured below and archived here) returned only one result with the exact phrase from the prayer spoken in the TikTok voiceover, "Heavenly Father, tonight I lift up every believer across this great nation from coast to coast. Wrap your arms around your children." That result points to a post on Instagram (archived here) featuring a copy of the AI generated @prayerswithpopeleo TikTok video. No search results pointed to the official @Pontifex Instagram account of Pope Leo XIV or any other official Vatican sources. The video contains several artifacts common to reels that are artificially generated, such as the overly smooth texture of the skin rendering. Absent is the mole on Pope Leo's left upper lip. Another artifact visible in the video is a distortion in the background, which warps as the subject moves. A detail (pictured below) from a screenshot shows the moment at the start of the video when the doorframe appears to bend as the subject's cheek moves in front of it. Lead Stories uploaded a clip from the TikTok video to the AI generated content detection tool HIVE moderation. The results pictured in the composite image below were varied, ranging from 0.0 percent to 11.9 percent likely to contain AI generated content. Despite these low individual results, Hive gave an aggregated score of 99.6 percent, stating: Overall, the video is likely to be AI-Generated. On July 28, 2025 the @prayerswithpopeleo account on TikTok had six videos posted. These videos had similar prayers. Notably, each was dedicated to Americans specifically, and featured a request for people to engage with the post by adding personal information. Four seconds in, the voiceover says: If you are an American drop your name and the state you're watching from in the comments because I wanna pray for you personally. At the time of writing (Mon Jul 28 23:34:44 2025 UTC) the six videos pictured below and the @prayerswithpopeleo account had been unpublished from TikTok. Solve the daily Crossword

The Hills alum Lo Bosworth in double joy as she gets married and pregnant

Lo Bosworth is married and expecting her first child with Dom Natale. The Hills alum has revealed the couple tied the knot at her family's home in Laguna Beach, California on July 20, while they are also due to become parents in January. Sharing pictures from their special day on Instagram on Monday (28.07.25), Lo penned: "We said yes with joy. And life, with its most tender timing, said yes right back." The 38-year-old actress admitted the couple considered a lavish "New York City wedding", but when she started trying for a baby, they felt it was best to plan an "intimate" ceremony. In an interview with People, Lo said: "We wanted our wedding to meet the moment of where we're at right now. "I'm about four months pregnant, and before starting our fertility journey, we thought about a big, New York City wedding. Once our family plans got underway, however, we changed course to something we knew would be perfect if I was lucky enough to get pregnant: an intimate wedding with our closest family members enjoyed at home. We could take off our shoes, stretch out, enjoy great food and the beautiful décor, and relax." The couple's child is due two years after they got engaged in January 2024. Alongside a black-and-white snap of the couple embracing and flashing her gigantic diamond ring, she wrote on Instagram at the time: 'For you, my darling, it could only be a 'yes.' 'Thank you for being the best that one could be, for me. 'All my love, L.' It was not clear how long the pair had been dating before investor Dom got down on one knee. Lo previously dated her Hills co-star Scott Hochstadt for two years between 2009 and 2011. She was later linked to Shark Tank contestant Jimmy DeCicco, with the pair last seen together in 2020. The Laguna Beach star moved away from reality television in 2010 to lead a private life. Speaking on Bethenny Frankel's Just B podcast, she previously reflected on having her life play out on screen: "I served a very specific role, which I'm actually grateful for in hindsight. I didn't have to get into it too much. "But in the areas where I did, it still kind of haunts me to this day, because there's so many stories behind this story everybody saw on television that run very counter to what the public thinks of you." She now runs the Love Wellness brand, which she founded in 2016.

Netflix is about to lose a heart-pounding survival thriller movie based on a true story — stream it now

Netflix is about to lose 'Everest,' one of the best survival thrillers on the platform right now. It only landed on Netflix a few months ago, but with the constant churn of streaming libraries, it was only a matter of time before it disappeared. The movie is set to leave Netflix U.S. on Friday, August 1, so you've got only a short window left to catch this heart-pounding true story. 'Everest' is based on the real 1996 Mount Everest disaster, when climbers were caught in a brutal storm during their ascent. The characters in the movie are based on actual people involved in the tragedy, and their names, roles, and stories stay largely true to life. Movies based on real events carry extra weight because you're reminded that much of it actually happened, even if some details are changed. That's why 'Everest' is a gripping survival thriller that's hard to forget. Here's why it's worth watching before it leaves Netflix this week. 'Everest' follows a group of climbers as they attempt to summit the world's tallest mountain in May 1996. Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) leads a commercial expedition with his company Adventure Consultants, guiding a diverse team of clients to the top. Among them are mailman Doug Hansen (John Hawkes), wealthy climber Beck Weathers (Josh Brolin), and journalist Jon Krakauer (Michael Kelly). At the same time, rival guide Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal) leads a team from his own company, Mountain Madness. As both groups push toward the summit, an unexpected and violent storm hits, turning the climb into a fight for survival. With oxygen running low, visibility vanishing, and communication breaking down, the climbers are forced to make impossible decisions high in the death zone. 'Everest' shows the physical dangers of high-altitude climbing and the chaos that occurs when nature turns against even the most experienced mountaineers. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. When a movie is based on a true story, like 'Everest,' which tells the same disaster Jon Krakauer wrote about in his book Into Thin Air, it really puts into perspective how fake most action movies feel. If this were just made up, you'd expect the main characters to make it through mostly unscathed, maybe with one dramatic death thrown in for effect. The stakes are real, the outcomes are brutal, and the story doesn't give you any easy answers or happy endings. But real life doesn't work that way. The stakes are real, the outcomes are brutal, and the story doesn't give you any easy answers or happy endings. A huge part of the movie's power comes from how unbelievably realistic it feels. Shot mostly in the Alps on real snowy peaks and directed by Baltasar Kormákur, 'Everest' pulls you right into the brutal reality of the climb. I can confidently say that watching it isn't easy, so if you've ever somewhat wondered what it's actually like to try and conquer Mt. Everest, this movie doesn't hold anything back. 'Everest' brings every part of the climb to life, including the crunch of snow underfoot to the biting high-altitude winds, and even the quiet camaraderie shared between these seasoned climbers. I'm certain anyone watching this thriller will find themselves holding their breath more than once, just seeing how high up the climbers are. This is truly a visually stunning movie to say the least, and sometimes you'll forget you're watching a thriller and not a documentary. That's the whole point. Climbers spend thousands of dollars to challenge nature, but as many expect, nature is unforgiving. 'Everest' is draining to watch, I'll admit, especially because of how the tone shifts so sharply in the third act. But that's the reality of it. The extreme weather caused disorientation, exhaustion, and lack of oxygen, leading to a deadly situation often called the 'deadliest day on Everest.' However, with such a large cast, the director sometimes struggles to give everyone balanced screen time, and at times it's tough to tell who's who when they're all bundled up in climbing gear. You really have to listen closely to voices and conversations to keep track. I was actually surprised by how little screen time Jake Gyllenhaal gets. Still, despite juggling so many characters, the movie manages to deliver enough personal drama to make you care about what happens to them. You might need a few tissues nearby before pressing play. Ultimately, what stands out most is how the movie makes you feel like you're right there on the mountain. 'Everest' is definitely worth adding to your Netflix watchlist before it leaves on August 1, if only for the chilling experience. But if you don't get around to watching it, check out what's being added to Netflix next month instead.
