Telangana Jagruthi to train youth, women on politics
Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K. Kavitha announced that the organisation will provide political training to youth, women, and students, who do not have any political background, to help them realise their dream of becoming leaders one day.
Unveiling a poster of the political training programme, 'Leader,' at her residence in the city on Sunday, Ms. Kavitha emphasised the importance of youth's participation for a cleaner and better politics. She said that Telangana is known for its youth spirit and highlighted the need to instil this trait in future generations.
Ms. Kavitha announced that Telangana Jagruthi will conduct three-day political training sessions every month across the State. The first session will begin in July in Hyderabad, followed by monthly sessions in various districts starting from August.
Encouraging students, youth, and women to participate in the training programme, she stated that the sessions will cover key topics such as the roles and responsibilities of elected representatives, identifying public issues, resolving them, and mobilizing development funds.
The BRS MLC reiterated that Telangana Jagruthi will continue to fight for achieving 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections. She also highlighted the significance of preparing women leaders for the parliamentary and assembly elections, especially in light of the Women's Reservation Act, which provides 33% reservations for women. With delimitation expected to increase the number of Assembly seats in Telangana and Lok Sabha seats as well, Kavitha emphasized the need for strong, well-informed leaders.

Hyderabad: Terming HYDRAA a great system to protect Hyderabad by taking action against encroachments on water bodies and parks, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday accused the Opposition parties of trying to derive political mileage by showing the body in poor light. The Chief Minister stated that the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) protected government lands worth Rs.30,000 crore and freed 13 park and 20 lakes from encroachments. Speaking at the main official function at historic Golconda Fort to mark the 79th Independence Day, Chief Minister Reddy remarked that leaders who want Hyderabad to remain water poor and struggle during heavy rains, were opposing HYDRAA. 'HYDRAA is doing wonderful service in resolving traffic problems and diverting flood water within an hour or two during heavy rains. It is also working effectively in taking action against illegal constructions and restoring ponds,' he said CM Reddy said HYDRAA was constituted to make Hyderabad a safe destination for living and to curb encroachment of water bodies. Stating that cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai are facing flood problems, he said Hyderabad should not witness such a plight. CM Reddy mentioned that 'TelanganaRising – 2047' vision document promises a permanent solution to Hyderabad's flooding problem with the Musi Rejuvenation Project. This vision unveils the determination to transform Hyderabad, which is being affected by floods, into a clean and beautiful city. The document also reveals how India's Future City, built to international standards, will be a gateway to the modern world, he said. 'TelanganaRising – 2047 is a plan to radically transform the image of Telangana with the construction of the Gandhi Sarovar project at Bapu Ghat, greenfield highways, dry ports, second phase Metro Rail, radial roads between the Outer and Regional Ring Roads, Warangal and Adilabad airports, Hyderabad-Nagpur, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, and Hyderabad-Vijayawada industrial corridors. Our goal is to implement this resolution and make Telangana a key player in the country's progress by 2047,' he said. The vision document aims to transform Telangana into a $1 trillion economy by 2035 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. He stated that the previous BRS government left mounting debts and arrears of Rs 8,21,652 crore. "After the Congress government assumed power, we completed debt service of Rs 2,20,676 crore which included Rs 1,32,498 crore principal amount and Rs 88,178 crore interest amount till date,' he said. Terming Young India Skill University and Young India Sports University as his two eyes, CM Reddy predicted that these institutions will shape the future of Telangana. The government is determined to make Telangana the sports hub of the country. It unveiled a new sports policy with the aim of producing top sportsmen and winning gold medals in the next Olympics. The state government decided to establish 'Young India Physical Education and Sports University of Telangana (YIPESU)'. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Korean National Sports University for the management of this varsity. CM Reddy said that the government is also setting up Young India Schools and a university for the development of education and skills. Young India Schools are being established in every constituency in 25 acres of land. He believes that these institutions will be game changers in the education sector of India. Already, 78 schools are being constructed at a cost of Rs 15,600 crore. 'My People's Government adapted a two-pronged approach. On one hand, the government set the goals to compete with global cities and on the other hand, we are delivering welfare benefits to fulfil the aspirations of the poor. Clarity in thinking and transparency in implementation are the hallmarks of our governance. We have chosen an inclusive development approach which involved everyone and created miracles. We have developed Telangana as a role model for the country within 20 months, writing a new history of transparency in governance, modernity in development, and welfare,' CM Reddy added.

Omar Abdullah's statehood signature drive sparks Opposition heat in J&K
Srinagar, Aug 15 (UNI) J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's announcement of a door-to-door signature campaign across the Union Territory for the restoration of J&K's statehood has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties. Peoples Democratic Party MLA and legislature party leader in J&K Assembly Waheed Parra accused Omar of 'betraying' the people of Jammu and Kashmir by reducing the fight for statehood to 'token gestures' through a signature campaign. 'Omar Abdullah owes an apology not a signature campaign for normalising 5th August. With 50 MLAs behind him, he has reduced the fight for J&K's statehood to token gestures, after seeking votes door-to-door on the promise of restoring pre–5th August status. This is not just retreat, it is betrayal,' Parra said in a post on X. The PDP MLA claimed that the people gave Omar Abdullah a historic mandate to 'fight for Article 370 and statehood, not to stage political theatre.' 'If he has already surrendered, he must admit it and apologise to every citizen of J&K for selling promises he never intended to keep,' Parra said. The Peoples Conference president and MLA Handwara Sajad Lone asked Omar to stop "theatrics and pass an Assembly resolution on statehood." He warned against 'making a mockery' of the 'cause' and urged a dignified, constitutional route. He challenged Omar to 'once and for all' explain his reluctance to have a resolution for statehood passed in the Legislative Assembly — a constitutional body elected through the Election Commission of India. 'Our resolutions are not binding on the Supreme Court, but inherent in them will be constitutional dignity. It will be a constitutional message to the highest court in the country. Political or signature campaigns have no legal or constitutional sanctity. Name one event empirically in India or anywhere in the world where signature campaigns have altered legal interpretations. They are not even admissible,' he asserted. Recalling that 'a signature campaign for independence was carried out by Yasin Malik also — how far did that campaign go,' Lone accused Omar of showing 'disregard, disdain and contempt' for the very Assembly that gave him the CM's position. 'You derive your power, perks and Chief Ministerial position from the Assembly. Why this contempt for the very institution that has made you the CM?' he asked. 'I beg you — please stop this childish and immature attitude. We will support any campaign unconditionally. But please ensure that a resolution from the UT Assembly is also passed and sent to the Supreme Court. We are facing a battle of a lifetime. A door-to-door signature campaign is nothing but theatrics. Tell me, is the Supreme Court answerable to majoritarian assertions or to law? Majoritarianism is something politicians practise. Supreme Court practises law,' Lone cautioned. National Conference president and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said the signature campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood will be run vigorously. Dead Voters and Democracy's Farce in Bihar's SIR

But the events around the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)—a term many point out the Election Commission has never used before—have outdone even the most overcooked political potboiler. Surreal. Sordid. On August 13, Rahul Gandhi had tea with seven 'dead' voters from Raghopur, the Assembly constituency of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar, and thanked the Election Commission with sugar-laced sarcasm. 'There have been many interesting experiences in life, but I never got the chance to have tea with dead people. For this unique experience, thank you, Election Commission!' Gandhi posted on X. Was he thinking of the 1995 American crime drama Dead Man Walking, or the rock supergroup of (almost) the same name that toured the UK, Ireland, and the US? I like to think these 'dead men walking' staged an exclusive presentation for Rahul, who, in true Main Hoon Na style, promised to fight for their rights. It brought to mind Kaagaz (2021), the story of Lal Bihari 'Mritak', a middle-class man from Uttar Pradesh declared dead in government records, whose 18-year battle to prove he was alive led him to found the Uttar Pradesh Association of Dead People. Or Unwanted (2019), about an autistic boy, Mangal Azad, who must prove he is alive after being declared dead. Reel life is one thing. In real life, it's less entertaining when your own government says you no longer exist. Meanwhile, the actor Kay Kay Menon objected to the Congress using a clip from his web series Special Ops promotions in its 'Vote Chori' campaign—without permission. The ad caption read: 'Himmat Singh kuch keh rahe hain, jaldi se kar aao! Band karo (Himmat Singh is saying something, go quickly! Stop it).' Soon came Menon's dry rejoinder: 'Please note I have not acted in this ad.' Still, nothing could outshine the absurdity of Rahul Gandhi's tea party with the certified-dead—a ready-made masala script. In a four-minute clip he shared, the 'deceased' joked about sightseeing in Delhi and wondered how a dead man buys a ticket to the monuments. Many only discovered their official deaths after checking the electoral rolls, despite filing all the paperwork for inclusion. Before this séance in Delhi came the case of Minta Devi, listed in Bihar's voter rolls as 124 years old, making her older than Ethel Caterham, the world's oldest living person at 115. Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress women MPs wore T-shirts with Minta Devi's photo to mock the SIR's absurdities. The BJP pounced, accusing the Congress of violating privacy, as Minta Devi herself demanded to know who gave permission to plaster her Election Card publicly. But in politics, privacy is an optional extra. Then came Mintu Paswan, produced in the Supreme Court by the activist Yogendra Yadav—another 'dead' man, despite having voted in the last four Lok Sabha elections. His crime? Someone told an official he was dead. The farce has spread beyond Bihar. Aaditya Thackeray cited a Varanasi man who fathered 34 children in 16 years, a Palghar woman with five voter cards, and an unmarried seer listed as the father of 50 voters. The hits keep coming: 269 voters at one Muzaffarpur address, 247 at another in Jamui. The list of absurdities could double as the sequel to Kaagaz. Rahul Gandhi now plans a 16-day 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar from August 17, which the Congress calls a decisive battle for democracy and one-person-one-vote. The march will start in Sasaram, once represented by Meira Kumar and her father, the late Jagjivan Ram. And in case you thought the scriptwriters had clocked out, there was that earlier incident where someone filed an online application for a residence certificate in Donald Trump's name in Samastipur, just days after the Bihar administration issued one to 'Dog Babu'.
