Parkville loosening restrictions on short-term rentals ahead of World Cup 2026
At least one Kansas City metro city is getting a head start on cashing in on this worldwide event.

, like Air BnBs, hoping to attract fans to that neighboring city. Parkville sits about 20 minutes from the heart of downtown Kansas City.
For a three-month window next summer, Parkville municipal leaders will allow an unlimited number of short-term rentals, hoping to bring visiting soccer fans here.
Parkville is presently home to nearly 9,000 people, and a thriving downtown. Present ordinances allow for four short-term rentals per city ward. Those restrictions will be loosened beginning May 1, 2026.
'I would stay here because it's real cozy and comfy,' Annette Hagen, , said.
Hagen knows hundreds of thousands of World Cup soccer fans are expected to crowd into the metro for soccer's biggest show next summer.
Property owners will still need a city permit to open a short-term rental. Hagen is considering transforming another apartment into a second short-term rental property.
'It's like a full apartment,' Hagen said. 'I think it will be really good for the city. I heard there will be a lot of people who are going to be here.'
Parkville Mayor Dean Katerndahl supports loosening those regulations. The mayor likes that this will allow property owners to rent their homes and rentals to others, and that permission to do so won't be permanent.

'We want to expose people, and we want our people to have a good time while the World Cup is here. It's quite an honor to have as many games as we're going to have here,' Katerndahl said.
Fans of short-term rentals say they appreciate the extra space, and room for multiple people that most hotels don't offer. Adam Bernero, a father of five from Chicago, prefers short-term rentals.
Bernero and his son are staying in a nearby rental during a baseball trip.
'You might be able to have your family come stay with you, if you can split it with another family. That's always nice,' Bernero said.

Katerndal said Parkville is the metro's second-fastest growing city. It's also a short distance to Riverside, Missouri, where a World Cup team could potentially make its headquarters at KC Current's training facility.
Kansas City's series of World Cup matches are scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026.

Chelsea completes the signing of Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax
LONDON (AP) — Club World Cup champion Chelsea has completed the signing of Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax in a deal worth a reported 37 million pounds ($49 million). The 19-year-old Hato, who has been capped six times by his country, has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge. He becomes the Blues' eighth signing of the summer transfer window. 'I'm very excited,' Hato, who can operate in central defense or at left back, told the Premier League club's website. 'I thought a lot about my future and wanted to take the next step in my career. Chelsea is the best place for me to do that so I'm very happy.' Hato joined Ajax's academy from hometown club Sparta Rotterdam in 2018 and signed his first professional contract aged 16 four years later. He scored four goals in 111 appearances for the Eredivisie team, with his international debut coming as a substitute in a 6-0 win against Gibraltar in November 2023. Chelsea starts its Premier League season on Aug. 17 at home to Crystal Palace. ___ AP soccer: The Associated Press

Rumors fly surrounding Oklahoma QB John Mateer and 2022 UCLA-USC football game
There's a new, strange sports betting rumor swirling around the internet, with Oklahoma Sooners quarterback John Mateer being placed under review for any gambling activity. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Oklahoma is aware of the situation and is reviewing Mateer for any possible gambling activity. Mateer is entering his first season with the Sooners after playing with the Washington State Cougars the past three years. College Sports Wire writer Riley Donald explained on Tuesday why Mateer is unlikely to be the last player caught in this sort of entanglement. 'While college sports feature ads for different gambling sites every other commercial, the act of collegiate athletes gambling is still strictly prohibited and often a fast-track ticket to suspensions or worse. The latest saga around gambling activity in the college football world has the spotlight shining squarely on the Oklahoma Sooners and their new transfer quarterback John Mateer, just before the 2025 season is set to begin.' Donald wrote. The rumors began after Mateer's Venmo transaction history was posted online, with Mateer having some suspicious payments that allude to sports betting. Perhaps allude isn't a strong enough word, as Mateer had one payment titled simply 'Sports gambling (UCLA vs USC).' Mateer claimed that his transactions were an "inside joke" and that no illegal activity had occured. Mateer shouldn't be viewed as guilty simply off his Venmo transaction history, but the date of Mateer's transaction referring to USC and UCLA came just one day after the Bruins lost to the Trojans 48-45 back in 2022, which only makes it more likely that he had a wager on the game. Three days later, Mateer had another Venmo payment, receiving a payment titled 'Ultra sports gambling fifa World Cup' that was completed three days after the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. These sorts of scandals, it will be argued by some, will continue with the continued acceptance of sports betting in American society, with professional and collegiate programs signing deals with sports betting companies while holding the expectation for players, both pro and collegiate, to not participate.

Billionaires Buy a Brilliant Growth Stock That Has Partnered With Amazon
Key Points Most Wall Street analysts view Roku as undervalued; the median target price of $105 per share implies 28% upside from its current share price of $82. Roku is the leading streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and The Roku Channel is the fifth-most popular streaming service in the U.S. Roku recently formed an exclusive partnership with Amazon, giving media buyers that use Amazon's ad buying platform more precise targeting capabilities. 10 stocks we like better than Roku › A handful of billionaire hedge fund managers purchased shares of Roku (NASDAQ: ROKU) in the first quarter. Here's a look: Cliff Asness at AQR Capital Management added 467,005 shares of Roku, increasing his stake sixfold though it remains a small position. Stanley Druckenmiller at Duquesne Family Office bought 493,600 shares of Roku, starting a modest position that ranks among his 30 largest holdings. Chris Rokos at Rokos Capital Management bought 54,690 shares of Roku, starting a new and relatively small position. Steven Schonfeld at Schonfeld Strategic Advisors bought 68,886 shares of Roku, starting a new and relatively small position. Wall Street analysts generally agree Roku is undervalued. The median target price is $105 per share, which implies 28% upside from its current share price of $82. Here's what investors should know. Roku is the most popular streaming platform in North America Roku is the leading streaming platform in North America as measured by hours streamed, and Roku OS is the best-selling TV operating system in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In addition, The Roku Channel is the fifth most popular streaming service in the U.S., behind only Alphabet's YouTube, Netflix, Walt Disney, and Amazon Prime Video. Put simply, Roku is ideally positioned to benefit as advertisers spend more on connected TV (CTV). Some readers may be surprised to learn traditional TV advertising is still a larger market than CTV advertising, and it's expected to be the larger market until 2028. But CTV ad spending is forecast to grow at 12% annually through 2029, according to eMarketer. Jeremy Deal, portfolio manager at JDP Capital Management, writes, "The Roku operating system and The Roku Channel are valuable assets that are highly under-monetized today." Deal says The Roku Channel alone is probably worth more than the entire company's current market value, implying Roku is materially undervalued today. Roku's recent partnership with Amazon could be a meaningful growth driver Roku in June announced an exclusive partnership with Amazon. While Amazon's demand-side platform (DSP) is not the only media buying platform with access to Roku inventory, it is the only one that can use a custom identity solution to recognize logged-in viewers across the Roku platform in the United States. A press release from Roku explains, "This exclusive capability enables advertisers to reach the same viewer deterministically across different streaming channels and devices." The upshot for investors is brands on Amazon DSP can now target and measure ad campaigns with greater accuracy. In other words, Roku is now a more compelling place for marketers using Amazon DSP to spend their advertising dollars. Roku highlighted the benefits following an early test of the integration, "Advertisers using this new solution reached 40% more unique viewers with the same budget and reduced how often the same person saw an ad by nearly 30%, enabling advertisers to benefit from three times more value from their ad spend." Roku stock trades at a reasonable valuation Roku currently trades at 2.7 times sales, a discount to the two-year average of 2.8 times sales. That valuation looks quite reasonable for a company whose revenue is forecast to increase at 12% annually through 2027, especially when that consensus estimate leaves room for upside. As mentioned, CTV ad spending is forecast to grow at 12% annually through 2029, and Roku is well positioned to benefit given its status as the most popular streaming platform in North America. To that end, its revenue could certainly grow faster than 12% annually with help from its Amazon partnership.
