IND vs ENG: 'Jofra Archer was seeing highlights of Sourav Ganguly waving shirt' - Ben Stokes reveals after win over India at Lord's
TimesofIndia.com in London: England captain
Ben Stokes
on Sunday added a touch of humour and history to the drama at Lord's after a thrilling 22-run win over India in the third Test.
Reflecting on the occasion, Stokes revealed that
Jofra Archer
had been watching highlights of Sourav Ganguly famously waving his shirt on the Lord's balcony, an iconic scene from India's iconic NatWest final win in 2002.
'Archer was seein highlights of Ganguly waving shirt. He thought that was World Cup final. I told him no, the World Cup final we won,' Stokes told reporters, referring to England's 2019 ODI World Cup triumph, also played at Lord's on the same date, July 14.
Chasing 193, India were bowled out for 170 despite a valiant effort from
Ravindra Jadeja
, who remained unbeaten on 61.

Starting the day at 58/4, India needed something special, but quick wickets in the morning all but sealed their fate.
KL Rahul stood firm for a gritty 39, but his dismissal to Stokes, via a successful DRS, dented India's chase. Rishabh Pant, visibly in pain due to a finger injury, was castled by a sharp Archer delivery that turned the tide definitively in England's favour.
Stokes revealed he had a 'gut feeling' about opening the day with Archer: 'Had that gut feeling. That's why opened the bowling with Jofra Archer and he swung the game for us,' he said.
Poll
Do you believe India can bounce back in the fourth Test?
Yes, definitely!
No, England are too strong.
Both Stokes and Archer picked up five wickets in the match, delivering under pressure on a worn surface. Shoaib Bashir fittingly claimed the final wicket, sparking jubilant scenes and a standing ovation from the Lord's crowd.
"When did I bowl 45 overs in a Test match? Big day today… game on the line. We threw a lot at their batting with the seam. It was great that Bashir was able to get the last wicket," Stokes continued.
Shoaib Bashir, carrying a finger injury, could miss the next game and may even miss the remainder of the series.
Heaping praise on Joe Root, the skipper added: "Joe Root is the best batter in the world in all conditions. We thought 190 was going to be tough to chase."
Jadeja's fourth successive Test fifty and late resistance with Bumrah and Siraj gave India hope, but the mountain proved too steep.
With this result, England take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The fourth Test begins on July 23 in Manchester, where India will look to bounce back and keep the series alive.

India Women vs England Women ODI series: Dominant India looks to seal series against England
Armed with multiple match-winners, India will look to continue their excellent build-up to the forthcoming World Cup when they face England in the potentially series-deciding second and penultimate women's ODI in London on Saturday (July 19, 2025). India won the opener at Southampton by four wickets, and a victory at Lord's will give the visitors an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match rubber. This would extend their string of wins in the format in recent times, including the tri-series triumph involving Sri Lanka and South Africa in May. The games against England carry added significance as they serve as vital preparation for the ICC Women's ODI World Cup, which India will host later this year. With several players delivering standout performances, competition for spots in the World Cup squad is heating up, but this problem of plenty is a happy headache for India coach Amol Muzumdar and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. The management has several options to choose from for certain roles. The depth and bench strength of the team has never been this good. In the absence of pacers Renuka Singh Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar due to injures, the side preferred Kranti Goud over the slightly more experienced Arundhati Reddy. The 21-year-old newcomer showed her mettle with two big wickets in the opener while sharing the new ball with Amanjot Kaur, who is also a rookie. Pratika Rawal has emerged as the preferred choice for Smriti Mandhana's partner at the top of the order while Shafali Verma also remains in contention after her form in the T20 Internationals, the Women's Premier League (WPL), and domestic cricket. Harleen Deol is also in good nick and in the event Shafali returns to the playing XI in near future, Rawal could be pushed down to the number three slot. However, in that case, it will be difficult to accommodate Deol in the line-up that also comprises Harmanpreet, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh. Even the spin department has plenty of depth with the likes of left-arm spinner N Shree Charani joining the likes of Deepti, Sneha Rana and Radha Yadav. Charani was named Player of the Series in the preceding T20I series for topping the wickets tally with 10 scalps. Coming off her Rishabh Pant-like one-handed six during a match-winning half-century in the first ODI, senior all-rounder Deepti will be the cynosure of all eyes on Saturday. Having ticked almost all the boxes on the tour during which they won their maiden T20I series on these shores, victory in the ODI rubber would further boost India's preparations and morale ahead of the global showpiece, which starts on September 30. As far as England are concerned, they will need to pull up their socks and find a way to start winning matches. The result in the opener was India's fifth consecutive ODI victory on English soil. Teams (from): India: Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana (vc), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Tejal Hasabnis, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Sree Charani, Shuchi Upadhyay, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare. England squad: Nat Sciver-Brunt (c), Em Arlott, Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Kate Cross, Alice Davidson-Richards, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Amy Jones, Emma Lamb, Linsey Smith. Match starts at 3:30pm IST.

'Pulling back the curtain on untold stories': Australian legend's daughter to take cricket to the USA with podcast on Willow
Grace Hayden, daughter of former Australia batter Matthew Hayden, is a cricket presenter. (Instagram) Grace Hayden, 23-year-old daughter of Australian cricket legend Matthew Hayden , is launching a new weekly video podcast called "Game On With Grace" on Willow, America's leading cricket network. The show aims to introduce cricket to US audiences through engaging stories and conversations, marking a fresh approach to expand the sport's presence in one of its biggest untapped markets. The innovative podcast will feature Grace interviewing sports personalities, starting with Australian cricket icon Adam Gilchrist, who played alongside her father during Australia's dominant era in the early 2000s. Her unique perspective comes from growing up around cricket's biggest stars, as her father played 103 Tests and scored over 8,000 runs for Australia. Matthew Hayden's daughter Grace: Loves dal and roti, is a big fan of Rishabh Pant "Game On is about pulling back the curtain on the world of sports' untold stories," Grace explained. "I grew up in cricket's front row and have covered its biggest tournaments, but the moments that fascinate me most happen off camera. Partnering with Willow allows me to share those raw, funny, and inspiring conversations with athletes, artists, and anyone chasing greatness." Willow CEO Todd Myers sees Grace as the perfect host to bridge the gap between cricket and American viewers. "Grace's knowledge of the game, combined with a confident on-screen presence, makes her a uniquely powerful and authentic voice," Myers said. "This podcast will bring authenticity, energy, and a fresh voice that will resonate with both long-time cricket fans and newcomers alike." The timing couldn't be better as cricket gains momentum in the United States. The launch of Major League Cricket in 2023 brought international stars like Ricky Ponting, Pat Cummins, and Faf du Plessis to American soil. The country also co-hosted the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, with matches in New York, Dallas, and Lauderhill. Grace Hayden (L) with former Australia batter and father Matthew Hayden (C). (Instagram) Interestingly, cricket has deep roots in America. The first international cricket match was played between the USA and Canada in 1844 at St George's Cricket Club in New York. However, the sport's popularity eventually gave way to baseball. Now, through initiatives like Grace's podcast, cricket aims to reclaim its place in American sports culture.
