Former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Named in Trade Report
Former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Named in Trade Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Clippers are coming off their healthiest season in years and were just inches away from advancing past the first round of the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2021. Advertisement Because of that, it will be no surprise that LA plans to add some reinforcements this offseason. The Boston Celtics have been linked as a potential trade partner, as MassLive's Brian Robb reported that the Clippers have interest in Jrue Holiday. The one caveat is that Holiday is on an expensive contract, and will only continue to get expensive over the next three years. He will get paid over $30 million annually as he approaches his late-30s. Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday (4)David Butler II-Imagn Images Hence, the Clippers may look for cheaper options first. ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel revealed that there are two Celtics alumni that the Clippers may target: Malcolm Brogdon and Marcus Smart. Advertisement "The Clippers are going to continue adding experienced guys to their roster, and Malcolm Brogdon still seems realistic," SIegel wrote. "Wouldn't be shocked to see them inquire about Marcus Smart either." The Clippers previously targeted Brogdon back when they were the original third team that helped orchestrate the trade that would send Kristaps Porzingis to Boston in 2023, but bowed out. He could have more appeal to them now because he may not cost as much. Since the Celtics traded Smart in 2023, he has struggled staying on the court because of injuries, but he too would cost substantially less than Holiday would, and his contract is set to expire in 2026. He is also a former Defensive Player of the Year, winning the award with Boston in 2022. Tom Thibodeau Breaks Silence on Knicks Firing on Social Media
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Knicks stunned the basketball world when they decided to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau. The Knicks are officially in the market for a new head coach. In the meantime, Thibodeau has broken his silence following his departure — by joining social media. In his first post, Thibodeau thanked both the fans and the organization, expressing his gratitude in a brief but telling message. Head coach Tom Thibodeau of the New York Knicks looks on against the Detroit Pistons during the first quarter in Game Two of the Eastern Conference First Round NBA Playoffs at Madison Square Garden on April 21, 2025 in New York City. More Photo by"To the best city in the world with the best fans in the world: Thank you," Thibodeau wrote. "When I was hired in 2020, I said this was my dream job. I am grateful that dreams became a reality. Thank you to our players and coaching staff who gave everything they had, and to everyone who makes this franchise special. I am proud of everything we accomplished together, including four playoff appearances and this year's run to the Eastern Conference finals — our first in 25 years. "And to the fans, thank you for believing in me and embracing me from day one. Watching you support our team, and seeing the Garden ignite with that incomparable Knicks energy, is something I will never forget." More Knicks news: Knicks Shockingly Fire HC Tom Thibodeau Following Playoff Exit Thibodeau's dismissal came on the heels of the Knicks' loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, which was decided in six games. Despite guiding New York past the reigning champion Celtics in the second round and steering the franchise to its first conference finals berth in 25 years, it ultimately wasn't enough to secure his job. During his five-year run, Thibodeau led the Knicks to the playoffs in four seasons and delivered back-to-back 50-win campaigns—something the franchise hadn't done since the 1990s. He wrapped up his tenure with a 250-197 overall record. What's Next for the Knicks After Tom Thibodeau's Exit? As Thibodeau's coaching future remains uncertain, the Knicks are now locked in on finding the right voice to lead them forward. However, it hasn't been easy for the team thus far. The Knicks requested permission to speak to Rockets head coach Ime Udoka and Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch. Both teams denied the Knicks' request. Additionally, UConn head coach Dan Hurley publicly declined the opportunity to become the next head coach of the Knicks. It hasn't been the prettiest of starts for the Knicks thus far in the coaching search, but they still have plenty of time to find their guy. Boston Celtics: Jaylen Brown has successful right knee arthroscopic surgery
Boston Celtics: Jaylen Brown has successful right knee arthroscopic surgery Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has had a successful right knee arthroscopic debridement procedure, per a release circulated by the team on Wednesday (June 11) morning. The surgery, addressing lingering knee issues experienced by the Georgia native from the latter third of the 2024-25 NBA regular season on throughout the 2025 NBA Playoffs, will reportedly not impede his ability to take part in the Celtics' training camp for the coming 2025-26 regular season. The arthroscopic debridement procedure Brown underwent can refer to a number of related surgeries to remove damaged cartilage and bone, so it is unclear as to what the particulars are with Brown's specific case beyond it being for that same right knee that has bothered him with what has previously been described as a "partial meniscus tear," "bone bruise," and an "impingement". The quick turnaround for the surgery for the Cal alum may seem promising at first blush, but it is also important to remember that former Boston big man Robert Williams III quickly returned from meniscus surgery -- and has not been the same player since. It is also important to stress that what is going on with Brown may be very different than what went on with Timelord. There may be little in common apart from both injuries being located in the knee. The Celtics forward has previously noted that he sought multiple opinions on what would be best for the injury, so fingers crossed he is back on the court as soon as possible.
