Man dead after striking utility pole in Sterling, state police investigate
STERLING, Conn. (WTNH) — A man died on Thursday after striking a utility pole in Sterling Wednesday evening, according to state police.
State police say the victim, Michael Ryan Theriault, 42, of Moosup, was extracted from the car by a passerby, taken by ambulance to a local hospital and then transported by LIFESTAR to Hartford Hospital where he died due to his injuries.
Police investigating robbery at Liberty Bank in New Haven
Theriault was driving a Nissan Altima south around 6:47 p.m. on Ekonk Hill Road in Sterling and ran off the roadway before striking a utility pole. The car came to an uncontrolled final rest in a ditch and burst into flames. He was removed from the car before it combusted, according to authorities.
State police are investigating the crash.

Warren man pleads not guilty to charges in crash that injured woman
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — A Warren man was arraigned on charges stemming from a December crash that sent an 18-year-old woman to the hospital with injuries. Dennis Currey Jr., 23, is charged with OVI and aggravated vehicular assault. According to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Currey was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima that crashed into the back end of a 2010 Honda Civic, driven by an 18-year-old woman from Southington. The report states that both vehicles were traveling northbound on state Route 11 in Liberty Township on Dec. 26 when the crash occurred. The force of the crash pushed the Civic into the median, and the driver was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with what was reported as suspected serious injuries. The Highway Patrol's report states that Currey's blood-alcohol content was .161, double the legal driving limit of .08. A Trumbull County grand jury returned an indictment in the case last month. Currey pleaded not guilty to the charges in Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday, and bond was set at $5,000. Currey is scheduled to appear in court again on July 30. Man arrested in connection to 2023 crash that left East Haven cyclist dead
EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A North Haven man was charged in the 2023 death of a cyclist in East Haven, police said. Stephen Cote, 35, was allegedly driving a 2008 Chevy Equinox on Foxon Road when he struck 19-year-old bicyclist Joshua Cervero on July 16, 2023. Pedestrian suffers serious injuries after being hit by vehicle in Vernon Cervero died from his injuries on July 18, 2023. Investigation revealed that Cote was allegedly traveling at an estimated 57 mph in a 35 mph zone. The right headlight was also allegedly not working before the incident. Cote was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, traveling unreasonably fast and failure to have headlamps. He will appear in New Haven Superior Court on June 25. Driver arrested after crash injures 3 children at lemonade stand in Burke County
BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 24-year-old woman has been charged after a crash sent a vehicle off the road and into three young girls who were running a lemonade stand. The accident happened around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, on Conley Road near Arthur Mull Road, just south of Morganton. According to the NC State Highway Patrol, Haley Erin McCorkle, of Hickory, was trying to turn left out of a driveway in a Chevrolet HHR when she pulled into the path of an oncoming Nissan Altima. The impact pushed the Nissan off the road and into a front yard, right where three girls, ages 7, 8, and 9, had set up a lemonade stand for the afternoon. All three were critically injured and rushed to nearby hospitals. Two were airlifted; the third was taken by ambulance. 'I was scared': Family of Morganton girl hit by car, along with two others, recounts the tragic moment None of the drivers involved were hurt in the crash. McCorkle is now facing charges for failure to yield the right of way, causing serious bodily injury. Troopers said there's no indication that speed or impairment played a role in the crash. Family members of the injured girls said the crash happened in an instant. 'I was right there, and it just happened so fast,' said Elizabeth, the sister of one of the girls. 'I just ran and got my mom.' The girls' parents described the scene as terrifying and heartbreaking. One father said he was traumatized after seeing what happened to the children. Despite the pain, the families said they're grateful it wasn't even worse. 'I can't blame anyone for the accident. Accidents happen. But I was upset about it. I've just had to pray about it.' The road was closed for about two hours while troopers investigated.
