Student's death: police find no evidence of ragging

The Hindu22-04-2025

A preliminary inquiry by the Ernakulam Rural police has failed to unearth any evidence suggesting that the 15-year-old student who allegedly died by suicide in January was subjected to ragging at his school.
A report to that effect has been submitted to District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) Vaibhav Saxena by the Puthencruz police. The investigation was launched after the victim's mother petitioned the Chief Minister and the State Police Chief, alleging that ragging at the school had driven her son to take the extreme step.
'We are not categorically stating that no ragging took place, but rather that we could not find any evidence, if at all, that it happened. We learnt that the victim had shared information about alleged ragging with one of his cousins. We recorded the statements of the cousin, the deceased student's friends, classmates, school authorities, and the driver of the vehicle arranged for his transport. However, no evidence emerged,' said police sources.
The inquiry was limited to the allegation of ragging, while the rest of the investigation is being carried out by the Hill Palace police under the Kochi City police.
The deceased, a Class 9 student of Global Public School, allegedly jumped from the 26th floor of his apartment in Thripunithura on January 15 this year. The Puthencruz police conducted the preliminary inquiry, as the school falls within their jurisdiction. The school, in a communication, also ruled out being privy to any such incidents of ragging.
According to the school authorities, following some Instagram posts, the boy's family approached them regarding alleged ragging, mentioning the names of other students after his death. The authorities claimed that they conducted inquiries with the students and parents reportedly involved in the alleged bullying incident, as well as with teachers and classmates, to determine the veracity of the claims. 'The children allegedly involved in the incident, along with their parents, were questioned again by the police team, and they vehemently denied any such incident or wrongdoing. We were also advised by the police team not to take any hasty decisions or actions against the children without the reports and findings from them, considering the age of those involved,' the school's statement said.
Since then, a special investigation team has been probing the case.

How Is Gangster Arsh Dalla Involved In Influencer Kamal Kaur's Death Case?

Last Updated: Kamal Kaur's body was found inside a parked car at the Adesh Medical University campus in Bathinda. In a chilling incident, Kamal Kaur, a young social media influencer from Punjab, was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a parked car on Wednesday evening. Her body was discovered on the premises of Adesh Medical University in Bathinda after locals reported a foul smell emanating from the vehicle, prompting immediate police intervention. The case is being investigated with a possible link to a prior threat that she received from Canada-based 'Khalistani terrorist" Arsh Dalla. Based in Ludhiana, Kamal Kaur was a popular social media figure, with nearly 4 lakh followers on Instagram. Kaur, whose real name was Kanchan Kumari, was believed to be in her mid-30s. While her shocking death is now being investigated as a murder case, preliminary investigations suggest that she was killed somewhere else, and her body was just dumped in the car. With the attention now turned to Arsh Dalla's connection to the murder case, here's what happened between the two. YouTuber Kamal Kaur Received Threats In October 2024, Kamal Kaur had reportedly received threats from gangster Arsh Dalla, who strongly asked her to stop posting 'inappropriate videos." At the time, News18 Punjab had cited an audio recording where Dalla was heard saying that Kaur shares inappropriate content on social media, further threatening to kill one of her family members unless she removes the videos. Arsh Dalla is a close aide of slain Khalistan separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. As per police sources, the particular threat is being taken seriously, and all angles are being examined. 'We are looking at every possible lead—nothing can be confirmed at this point," SSP Amneet Kondal told the media. On the other hand, Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh shared that the team is awaiting a post-mortem report, also revealing that the car had fake registration number plates. Kamal Kaur was known for her bold and controversial presence on social media, often referred to as 'Queen" by her followers. She was also recognised for posting videos using explicit language and often stirred up scandals on the internet. She reportedly left her home on June 9 and was headed to Bhatinda, only for her parents to receive the tragic news of her death.

Case registered against influencer Kalpika Ganesh following alleged misconduct at Hyderabad restaurant

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 12 (ANI): Social media influencer and actress Kalpika Ganesh has been booked by the Gachibowli police in connection with an alleged altercation at a prominent Hyderabad restaurant, Odeum by Prism. The incident, which took place on May 29, came to public attention after videos capturing the episode went viral on social media platforms. As per the First Information Report (FIR), a formal complaint was submitted by Deepak Bajaj (38), Managing Partner of Prism Club & Kitchen, on June 6, 2025, outlining a series of disruptive actions allegedly committed by Ganesh during her visit to the venue. According to the complaint, Ganesh, accompanied by a male guest, dined at the restaurant and consumed ₹ 2,200 worth of food and beverages. At the time of billing, around 11:30 pm, she allegedly demanded that the dessert, a cheesecake, be offered complimentary. Though the management extended a gesture of goodwill by offering a brownie instead, the complainant alleged that Ganesh refused to settle the bill, became aggressive, and verbally abused the Deputy General Manager and General Manager, including derogatory and body-shaming remarks. The situation reportedly escalated when Ganesh threw the brownie plate, causing disturbances on the premises. The FIR further states that she went live on Instagram, declaring she was doing it for her followers, and subsequently made false accusations of rape and molestation on social media. Kalpika Ganesh has also shared a video of the incident on her Instagram handle. The complaint also noted that even in the presence of police officers, Ganesh allegedly continued her disruptive behaviour, refused to cooperate, and verbally abused the personnel. Management claimed that the episode led to reputational harm to both the establishment and its staff, as well as property damage, verbal and physical abuse, false public narratives, and personal defamation involving staff families. Supporting evidence cited includes CCTV footage, videos recorded by staff and guests, and witness testimonies. While the management initially delayed complaining to avoid escalation, the persistent nature of the alleged online provocations prompted legal action. The matter was entered into the General Diary on June 6, and a request was made before the Honourable Court for permission to register a case formally. Upon receiving approval, a case was registered on June 10, 2025, under sections 324(4), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation has been assigned to WSI Akshitha, under the supervision of Inspector Anil Kumar, Gachibowli Police Station. (ANI)

Influencer Kamal Kaur Bhabhi received death threat from gangster before suspected murder: ‘Ruining Punjab's youth…'

Kanchan Kumari alias Kamal Kaur - influencer who was found dead in a car in Punjab on Wednesday - had received death threats from notorious gangster Arshdeep Singh Gill, better known as Arsh Dalla, last year. In an audio recording reported by News18 last year, the gangster can be heard saying that Kamal was ruining Punjab's youth 'I want to put across a message that Kamal Kaur also uploads a lot of rubbish,' he can be heard saying in the audio in Punjabi. 'If she doesn't stop, we will kill her family to prove that they are ruining Punjab's youth. It will not matter much if there's one less family in Punjab,' he added. The influencer was missing since June 9, and her body was found in an abandoned car in a parking lot in Punjab's Bathinda district, police said on Thursday. The 30-year-old, also known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, had 3.84 lakh followers on Instagram and ran a YouTube channel called 'Funny Bhabhi' with 2.36 lakh subscribers. According to the police, Kamal hailed from Ludhiana and had left home on June 9 for a promotional event. The family could not contact her after that. The body was discovered when locals informed the police about a foul smell emanating from a car in the parking area near Bathinda's Adesh University. Police found the body in the rear seat. Arsh Dalla is considered to be the de facto chief of the Khalistan Tiger Force and was arrested in Canada in November last year. He is accused of over 50 murder cases and acts of terror, including terror financing. In an official statement last year, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that he was designated as an individual terrorist in 2023 by the government and they had asked for his arrest to the Canadian government. 'Our agencies will be following up on an extradition request,' ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said. 'Given Arsh Dalla's criminal record in India and his involvement in similar illegal activities in Canada, it is expected that he will be extradited or deported to face justice in India,' he added. However, there have not been many updates on this after the November 14 statement.
