Trump has spent almost a third of his presidency in properties he owns, new report shows

Independent4 days ago
During his recent five-day trip to Scotland, Donald Trump spent most of the time on his own golf courses and hotels.
This appears to be par for the course for the president, who has spent almost a third of his second presidency so far at properties that he owns, according to new analysis by Forbes.
Out of his first 191 days back in office, 75 of them have been spent at his own businesses at various locations including Florida, New Jersey, Virginia, Nevada, and now Scotland.
Of these, over half (45 days) have been spent playing golf, according to online tracker Did Trump Golf Today? – which accounts for about 23 percent of his second term so far. The president visited his courses 16 out of the first 17 weekends back as Commander-in-Chief.
According to Forbes, in January, days after retaking the Oval Office, Trump went to Las Vegas to give a speech on his no-tax-on-tips pledge – while staying at his Trump International Hotel.
From there he flew to Miami for a GOP conference at Trump National Doral. After a few days spent back in Washington D.C., Trump returned to Florida and visited his Mar-a-Lago estate.
In fact, the president's most prized home – that was subject to an FBI raid, during which agents recovered classified documents stored in rooms including the bathroom – has been his most visited residence, having spent 35 days there since January 20.
Forbes analysis shows that Trump spent 12 days there in February.
The president has spent multiple weekends on his various golf courses – including every single one in March. The Trump golf tracker estimates that this has cost the U.S. tax payer roughly $63 million.
The president also hosted a candlelit dinner at Mar-a-Lago for a political action committee established two days after his 2024 victory on March 1. Later that month Trump also golfed at his club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
In April, after announcing his controversial 'Liberation Day' tariffs, the president went to Florida for yet another golf tournament at the Doral – the Saudi-backed LIV Golf.
Despite heading on a three-country tour of the Middle East in mid-May, the president still found time to visit his properties on either side – spending 13 days in total at Trump residences. After returning from his trip he resided mostly at his clubs in Virginia and New Jersey, according to Forbes.
According to the analysis, the president appears to be put off by the Florida heat during summer, instead preferring to spend time in Virginia and New Jersey – rounding off the month with a four-day trip at the latter.
This past month, despite a trip to Europe, Trump has kept up appearances at his clubs.
The president encouraged world leaders to meet him halfway (and sometimes on the green), with visits from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and UK prime minister Sir Keir Starmer at his resort in Turnberry.
The president concluded his Scottish trip by opening a new golf course at his resort in Menie, Aberdeenshire, on Tuesday morning, playing a quick final round before heading back to Washington.

Texas GOP jabs at Jasmine Crockett with their proposed new map... as she calls spiteful move a 'red flag'

Firebrand Democrat Jasmine Crockett faces being booted from Congress after Republicans proposed a heavily gerrymandered redistricting map that would mean she no longer lives in her district. Crockett has made headlines numerous times in recent months as a key critic of the Trump administration, and the redistricting issue is the latest one she has spoken out on. She has slammed the Texas redistricting maps as a sham that silences minority voices and keeps power in the hands of the few, diluting the voting power of Latino and Black communities. The redistricting push in Texas was spurred by a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice sent to state officials in July, which argued that four of the state's congressional districts were racially gerrymandered. Democrats won all four of these seats in the 2024 elections. President Donald Trump then urged Texas Republicans to rethink their Congressional maps to give Republicans a leg up in next year's midterm elections. Texas Rep. Todd Hunter, the Republican author of the bill pushing the new maps, described the new proposed carveouts in the following way: 'It is important to note that four of the five new districts are majority minority, Hispanic. … Each of these newly drawn districts now trends Republican,' Hunter said. 'Political performance doesn't guarantee electoral success; that's up to the candidates. But it does allow Republican candidates the opportunity to compete in these districts.' Crockett called Trump 'Temu Hitler' in a recent interview with SiriusXM host Zerlina Maxwell, due to the president's involvement in the redistricting process. 'So what we have seen is, again, this rogue Department of Justice going out to do the bidding of this Temu Hitler,' Crockett told Maxwell in July. Crockett also added that in her view, Trump believes that the only way to 'ensure that [he] will have no checks on [him] is if [he] can ensure that those voices of color do not have representation.' The Texas congressional maps were already redrawn after the 2020 Census, and they are typically edited every ten years. US Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) speaks during a "Oversight and Government Reform" hearing on Capitol Hill, in Washington, DC, on February 12, 2025 After the Friday hearings on the proposed new maps, the Republicans on the Texas House Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting voted to advance House Bill 4 on a party-line vote. Democrats plan to stall a vote on the legislation by the full chamber by not showing up. A full chamber vote could happen as soon as Tuesday. 100 members of the Texas House are needed to conduct business, and Republicans hold 88 seats in the body. 62 seats are held by Democrats. Lawmakers could be fined $500 a day if they refuse to come to work, per a rule adopted in 2021 after Texas Democrats pulled a similar move to postpone another voting bill. Regardless of the creation of the new maps, Crockett's time in the U.S. House of Representatives may be coming to an end soon. In a July interview with liberal comedian and media personality Hasan Minhaj, Crockett noted that she already has her 'expiration date in mind for the House,' adding that she already has 'been eyeing people to replace' her. Polling released by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) last month showed Democrat Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett leading a hypothetical Democratic primary with 35 percent of likely voters, followed by former Rep. Colin Allred at 20 percent. Failed Democrat candidate for both U.S. President and U.S. Senate Beto O'Rourke, and Rep. Joaquin Castro tied in that poll at 13 percent. Only 18 percent of respondents to the poll remained undecided about who should challenge Republican Sen. John Cornyn, who is seeking a fifth term.

Donald Trump-supporting soccer fan kicked out of MLS stadium for wearing a MAGA cap

Shocking footage has emerged showing a soccer fan getting kicked out of a St. Louis City game for wearing a 'Make America Great Again' cap in the stands. The clip, first shared by reporter Greg Keller on X, shows a man named Michael Weitzel filming himself as police escort him out of the team's stadium because of his clothing. 'I am being evicted from the premises because of Donald Trump - because we can't wear Donald Trump hats in public,' Weizel says. 'Now I am being evicted from the premises. Trump is not welcome at St. Louis City SC club. Trump is not welcome here. 'I'm being asked to leave by the police. I am being threatened with arrest. They are asking me to leave.' A police officer escorting Weitzel out of the stadium can be heard explaining that he is a Trump supporter too but has to carry out the club's rules banning political statements at the stadium. Booing and jeering can also be heard in the background. 'He gets it, he's just following the rules,' Weitzel says of the officer dealing with him. 'It's not his fault. This is the stadium's rules here.' It is unclear precisely when the incident happened. Keller posted the video on August 2, saying that it occurred 'last night' but the most recent St. Louis City game was held on July 30 - a friendly game against Premier League team Aston Villa. Major League Soccer fan code of conduct rules state on their website that supporters are not allowed to make political gestures through their clothing at games. Listed in the prohibited section of the MLS website, the rule says: 'Displaying signs, symbols or images for commercial purposes or for electioneering, campaigning or advocating for or against any candidate, political party, legislative issue, or government action.' St. Louis City SC, when contacted for comment, directed Daily Mail to those guidelines and offered no further statement. The fan appears to be told by security that his ban only covers the game in question and that he would be allowed back in the future. Keller, meanwhile, later said that the the video is being reviewed by the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, who Daily Mail has contacted for comment. MLS has also been offered the chance to speak about the video. The same issue has arisen in other sports across the United States. Last October, San Francisco 49ers fans said they were stopped from bringing Trump merchandise into Levi's Stadium before an NFL game. The fans in question shared video to TikTok showing stadium security telling them to throw their hat away or to leave the stadium. It was the same game where Nick Bosa gatecrashed an interview with a 'MAGA' cap The woman who uploaded the footage said it caused a 45-minute dispute before security eventually relented and let the family in - although they missed the beginning of the game. Ironically, after the 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys on October 27, San Francisco guard Nick Bosa gatecrashed a post-game interview wearing a white MAGA cap. He was fined $11,255 by the NFL. According to league rules, players are prohibited from displaying a personal message or non-sponsored branding 'at any point throughout a game day when visible at the stadium and TV audience, including postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field.' Bosa was unapologetic, telling reporters: 'I haven't got one (a fine) yet, but if it comes, it comes. It was well worth it.' After Trump won last November's election, Bosa largely stayed silent aside from saying: 'Clearly, the nation spoke. And we got what we got what we want.'
