Man returns stolen Jinro toad statue to restaurant after CCTV footage emerges, Singapore News
A man has returned a Jinro toad statue after closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured him stealing it outside a restaurant in Tanjong Pagar.
In a post on Monday (June 9) circulating on social media, the man, wearing a white cap, can be seen walking past the restaurant alongside a woman when the large statue catches his attention.
The amphibian is the well-known mascot of the Korean soju brand, Jinro.
Approaching it casually, he picks up the statue and walks off with it.
Another woman, believed to be his friend, is seen playfully hitting him from behind after he takes the statue.

According to another video on Facebook, the alleged theft took place outside a Korean restaurant in Tanjong Pagar.
Based on the CCTV footage timestamp, the incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday (June 8) at around 1.19 am.
The video also stated that the statue was a rare promotional gift from Jinro, with an estimated value of around $500.
The restaurant owner reportedly noticed the statue was missing the following morning and filed a police report shortly after. Regretted his actions
Following the incident, Yeyak Korean Restaurant made a post stating that the man has since returned the pink statue, named "Ippeun-i".
According to the restaurant, the man initially took it to give it to the woman as she'd said her child would like it.
They added that the man regretted his actions and had approached the restaurant to offer compensation for any losses.

The restaurant also expressed appreciation for the support it had received from netizens and the community in helping to recover the statue.
In response to queries from AsiaOne, the police confirmed that a report was lodged, and investigations are ongoing.

The incident occurred along Tanah Merah Coast Road towards Xilin Avenue. A 54-year-old male cyclist was taken conscious to the hospital and investigations are ongoing, police said. Tanah Merah Coast Road, a 10-km stretch, has seen several road accidents involving cyclists over the years, reported The Straits Times. They included one in 2018 involving a teenage cyclist who collided with a stationary car. In 2021, a cyclist crashed into a stationary truck parked in the cycling lane. The road is frequented by cyclists as it has a dedicated cycling lane from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Changi Ferry Terminal, allowing for uninterrupted rides. Cyclist Michael Price wrote to The Straits Times Forum in May highlighting the dangers of cycling along the stretch due to the increased construction activity and large number of heavy vehicles. He claimed that drivers of the heavy vehicles not only "push the speed limits to meet their schedules", scattering construction debris on the road in the process, but many also stop illegally along the cycling lanes. Foreigner arrested for suspected drug trafficking offences, over $110k worth of cannabis and Ice seized, Singapore News
Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested a 30-year-old foreign national on suspicion of drug trafficking offences on Thursday (June 12). CNB had approached the 30-year-old on his e-bike near Bendemeer Road during an operation on June 10, but the man had abandoned his ride and fled the scene, the agency said in a press release on June 14. He was seen discarding a bag into the Kallang River during the ensuing pursuit, and officers found it to contain 2,004g of cannabis and 518g of methamphetamine or 'Ice' upon its recovery. "The amount of cannabis and 'Ice' seized is estimated to be worth $110,200 and could feed the addiction of about 580 drug abusers for a week," CNB stated. The man's identity was subsequently established and a follow-up operation on the afternoon of June 12 saw his arrest for suspected drug trafficking offences at the entrance of a condominium near Kampong Eunos. He was escorted to his flat and drug paraphernalia from within was seized. Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on their own behalf or for another person, to traffic or offer to traffic a controlled drug, or do any act preparatory to trafficking a controlled drug or offering to do so. Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty. Investigations into the drug offences of the suspect are ongoing. Man, 39, accused of housebreaking jumps bail, arrest warrant issued, Singapore News
A Chinese national facing charges for breaking into a private residence and stealing over $570,000 worth of jewellery has jumped bail. An arrest warrant has been issued to Long Zhihua, 39, after he failed to turn up for a pre-trial conference on May 23. In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Courts said that Long has been uncontactable since April 5, four days after he was granted bail. Long, a member of a housebreaking syndicate, had broken into a home on Windsor Park Road on June 21, 2024, with his accomplice, Luo Changchang, 44. They were arrested five days after the heist, before they had planned to fly back to China on June 29. Several stolen items were found in their hotel room in Geylang, but the victim, a 53-year-old woman, still suffered a loss as more than $390,000 in jewellery remains missing. According to court documents, Long and Luo initially pleaded guilty last December and were awaiting sentencing, but retracted their plea, prompting the court to schedule a pre-trial conference. Long, who had been granted bail, failed to show up in court on April 25. He did turn not turn up to the rescheduled pre-trial conference on May 23, which led to the arrest warrant being issued. Meanwhile, Luo has remained in remand since his arrest. His case is scheduled to be be heard again on July 25. Offenders convicted of housebreaking can be jailed up to 10 years, and fined.
