Chasing a paltry 155, Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the target in the penultimate over as Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Reddy set up a match-winning stand.
Star India and Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Nitish Reddy has said that with his team's IPL 2025 campaign currently in a do-or-die situation, they would like to take inspiration from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who made a starry comeback from the bottom of the points table halfway through IPL 2024 to qualify for the playoffs, finishing fourth.
Hyderabad's five-wicket win against the Chennai Super Kings saw them end their two-match losing streak, and the latter fell to their second straight loss.
Speaking after the game, India international Nitish revelled in his franchise's win against Chennai and said that they will be hoping to make a late push for the playoffs.
'The thought for the team, and it went pretty well. It is taking it match by match and proud that we won this match and hopefully the coming matches as well. (on his stand with Kamindu) We were talking about playing a normal game and not looking to hit the big shots," Nitish said while speaking to the host broadcasters.
'Last year, the same situation RCB came up and won 7 in a row. Why not us this year? It is putting in 100 per cent, and the rest we will see," Nitish added.
Hyderabad are eighth in the IPL 2025 points table with six points in nine games, ahead of bottom-placed Chennai, who have four points from nine fixtures.
This was Chennai's fourth successive loss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. They have matched their IPL 2008 and IPL 2012 seasons for most losses at home in a season.
On Friday, Ishan Kishan (44 off 34 balls), after his brain fade against the Mumbai Indians, played a responsible hand at the top before Kamindu Mendis (32 not out off 22 balls) and Nitish (19 not out off 13 balls) got the visitors two points with a 49-run partnership.
With six points from nine matches, Hyderabad's play-off qualification hangs by a thread as they need to win all their five games and that too by a fair margin to end on 16 points.
SRH play their next game against the Gujarat Titans on May 2 at the latter's home.
