David Jason makes unlikely cameo at Soap Awards as fans all say the same thing

Sir David Jason had fans all saying the same thing - as he appeared at the British Soap Awards tonight. The legendary actor was on hand to present the Best British Soap award this evening.
The soap awards actually took place on Saturday but they were broadcasted on ITV this evening - and after a delay due to a technical error, the awards got underway. David handed over the Best Soap award to EastEnders, who were the big winners tonight.
As David arrived on stage to present the award, the soap stars were seen in awe - and it was clear viewers felt the same.
One fan wrote: "The legendary Sir David Jason walking out to screams of excitement and admiration was incredible, the atmosphere was truly electric. Couldn't have wished for a better person to announce the winner," whilst a second added: "Great to see Sir David Jason on the #BritishSoapAwards tonight. What an absolute legend!!"
"Huge congratulations to EastEnders and how well does Sir David Jason look !! What a legend #britishsoapawards," a third said, with a fourth adding: "I teared up seeing David Jason." A fifth wrote: "N'awww a standing ovation for Sir David Jason."
David previously opened up about how he had to part ways with his helicopter with "extreme reluctance" as he struggled with his physical health. He said: "You need your hips, legs and knees to be in pretty tip-top condition for helicopter flying.
"Also your arms and shoulders. It's rather like playing a drum kit in that regard, although the consequences of getting out of time during the second verse are quite a bit graver."
He added: "I realised I was getting increasingly uncomfortable up there in the air. Having to push the physical part of the task was taking some of the joy out of it. Clearly it was time to step away while I was still capable of stepping."
David also explained how that was such a big part of his life - and it had been his "most satisfying accomplishment".
"Flying that helicopter was a big part of my life. It was a lot of fun, obviously, but also just the most satisfying accomplishment. Some people have the piano, and some people have oil painting. I had the helicopter and it's over now, but I'll always be proud that I can call myself a qualified helicopter pilot," he explained of his love of flying a helicopter.
Back in 2023, David also opened up about his health as he admitted his concerns over his memory and his physical health.
"My memory isn't what it used to be ... Most of us reach this point when things aren't quite as bright as they used to be," he said as he discussed his hip replacement and his general health, "Mind you, I don't wear a hearing aid, I don't wear glasses, and I've only had to replace one bit of my body, so I'm not doing too bad."

TV teen who needed French polisher in Yellow Pages ad unrecognisable 34 years on
One of the best-remembered ads for the Yellow Pages phone directory featured a floppy-haired teenager waking up to the aftermath of party he'd thrown while his parents were away Before the rise of the internet, we had the Yellow Pages, a comprehensive directory of local businesses – from advice centres to zoos – all vying for your custom, packaged in a hefty, distinctively coloured phone book. In the 1990s, the Reading-based company became famous for its unforgettable TV adverts, each new release bringing a buzz of anticipation akin to the unveiling of a new John Lewis Christmas advert today. These TV commercials even turned their stars into temporary celebrities, long before the era of reality TV, and gave birth to several catchphrases. Anyone around at the time will easily remember the Yellow Pages ad featuring elderly man searching for a book titled Fly Fishing by J R Hartley, with the surprising twist that it was Mr Hartley himself seeking his old publication. There was also the cheeky young lad standing on a stack of Yellow Pages to sneak a kiss under the Christmas mistletoe. And in 2003, Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt was enlisted to rejuvenate the brand, with the actor channelling his character Adam's hapless persona from the show, using the Yellow Pages to navigate tricky situations. But one of the most memorable adverts, first aired in 1991, featured a shaggy-haired teenager waking up on his living room floor after hosting a house party while his parents were away. Venturing into a bedroom, he stumbles upon a stranger on the bed, exclaiming: "Wake up! My parents fly back today," as a small group hastily tidies up the house. Then after his abject horror at noticing a scratch on a wooden table, he turns to the reliable Yellow Pages to find a solution. "Hello, French polishers?" he enquires over the phone, adding: "It's just possible you could save my life." The scratch is skilfully polished away in the nick of time and everything seems fine, until the final moment when the unfortunate lad realises that someone has doodled a beard and glasses onto a woman on one of the family's treasured paintings. The teenager in the advert was portrayed by Nottingham actor Simon Schatzberger, who later played Adrian Mole in a stage production in London's West End, and has since appeared as a Woody Allen-esque character in a stand-up comedy show. Now aged 57, he's also had a stint as David Klarfeld on the BBC soap Doctors and made appearances in EastEnders as a Rabbi, both in December 2018 and again in January 2019. His other television roles include Band Of Brothers, Daniel Deronda and Father Brown. In 2019, Yellow Pages announced it would cease printing its iconic directories, after more than half a century. The final editions of the once-indispensable guide were delivered in Brighton, the city where the directory's original copies were distributed. It boasted 104 editions, each customised to specific areas of the UK, with nearly 23 million copies circulated each year. And in 2023, a perfume was launched that even smelled like Yellow Pages, proving the brand lives on... sort of.

Sue Cleaver reflects on '25 years of laughs' after Coronation Street exit
Eileen Grimshaw had a special send-off during Friday's episode of the soap, where she was seen leaving for Thailand alongside her son Jason Grimshaw, played by Ryan Thomas. Simon Gregson's character Steve McDonald, Tony Maudsley's George Shuttleworth, and Eileen's son Todd, played by Gareth Pierce, all said goodbye to the matriarch before drivers from the local taxi firm honked their horns as she was driven off. In an Instagram post, Cleaver said: 'Well… that's a wrap. 25 years of laughs, tears, costumes, chaos — and one unforgettable journey. Cleaver has played the outspoken and uncomplicated Eileen in the ITV show since 2000. Eileen came to Weatherfield to work at the local taxi firm, Streetcars, to provide for her two tearaway teenage children, Jason and Todd. She soon became friends with her boss Steve and came into conflict with Helen Worth's character Gail Rodwell (also known as Gail Platt). Cleaver took part in I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022, where she opened up about reconciling with her birth mother, and was eliminated third. She also said her family is 'bizarrely interconnected' to other Coronation Street stars, including Worth who is godmother to one of her half-sisters, while her other half-sister's husband, John Bowe, appeared on the cobbles as Duggie Ferguson. In 2024, she released a book A Work In Progress in which she discusses how she feels she is not past her prime. In recent years she has appeared as a panellist on ITV chat show Loose Women.
