Cyber crook posing as teacher offers Rs3k govt dole in lieu of semi-nude photos
Nagpur: Twelve students of a Central Nagpur school, aged around 12 years, were left stunned by a cyber shark, who on Monday tried to compel them to share their semi-nude pictures on WhatsApp, posing as their class teacher.
The crook claimed pictures were mandatory to complete formalities to extend a monthly govt monetary benefit. The case is now being probed by Nagpur cyber cell. Six gullible students uploaded their images, assuming it was their class teacher.Sources stated some students received a fake message from an unknown number, requesting pictures of girls, exposing their chest and belly region, to complete an online formality to get the Rs 3,000/month govt dole. The trickster stated the semi-nude photographs were needed as authentic proof of identity. While a couple of girl students complied, one of the parents managed to spot her 12-year-old daughter trying to comply with the unknown fraudster posing as a teacher. She intervened and ensured images were deleted from the WhatsApp chat and confronted the unidentified trickster. "I called him up using the Truecaller app. I could see a youngster's image in the display picture as 'Dhiran Kumar Yadav' and not the class teacher," said the aggrieved mother. "I collected the screenshots while we were conversing as proof, which we have now shared with the DCP cyber cell, Lohit Matani," said the shocked woman, adding she later cautioned the trickster about a police raid. "The trickster said he was least bothered," she said. The woman alerted the school management and approached the cyber cell and Kotwali police station. DCP Matani stated someone hacked the WhatsApp account of the woman class teacher, extracted data of the students and began targeting them. "The trickster was messaging from Bihar. We have now written to Meta for details. The trickster's account was deleted too," said Matani.
