Ty Hamilton fired up to join young Rams' defense After a draft-day trade to select him, Hamilton is focused on proving himself and growing alongside LA's youthful defensive front.
When the Los Angeles Rams selected defensive lineman Ty Hamilton in the 2025 NFL Draft, they didn't just add a player. They brought in a driven, hard-nosed competitor ready to make his mark. The former Ohio State standout spoke with reporters about his draft-day experience, his fit with the Rams' young defensive front, and the influence of DaVon Hamilton his NFL veteran brother.
Hamilton's excitement was sky high when recalling the phone call he received from Rams General Manager Les Snead and Head Coach Sean McVay.
'It was great,' Hamilton said. 'They said they love my tape and they're excited to have me on the team. I'm just excited to be a Ram.'
The Rams' belief in Hamilton was clear, not only did they select him, but they also traded a future fourth-round pick to secure him. That vote of confidence wasn't lost on him.
"It's very exciting,' he said. 'For a team to be able to take a chance on you at all, it's not guaranteed that anybody gets drafted here. For the Rams to be able to take the opportunity and draft me, I was just super excited and super blessed to be able to have the opportunity to be a Ram."
The former Ohio State standout is eager to step into a young Rams defensive line, make an immediate impact, learn from experienced teammates, and embrace everything Los Angeles has to offer on and off the field.
"I think it's very exciting," Hamilton added. "Being able to step in there, be a rookie and be able to come in and make an impact is something that I dreamt of doing. Being able to go in there, learn from the older guys, see them and really pick their brains to see what's good about them. I have not watched a lot of tape but being able to have a young line, I just see a lot of potential. They have a lot of young guys with a lot of potential to be able to go in there and really set the tone. For teams that don't really know too much about the Rams with being able to go out there, really set the tone and really hit them in the head.'
With valuable insight from his brother, Jaguars defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton, Ty enters the NFL prepared for both the physical battles and mental challenges, ready to bring intensity and consistency to the Rams' defensive unit.
'It's a lot more mental than physical,' Hamilton said. 'Everybody is good in the league, but it's how you take those mental reps. Being able to understand that and enjoy the process every step of the way is something he's taught me.'
Hamilton, who trained in California before the draft, is ready to embrace the city of Los Angeles. Having previously played in the Rose Bowl, most recently back in January during the Buckeyes' national champion run when they knocked off Tennessee 42-17 in the CFP first round, the move to LA feels natural.
'Playing in California there's nothing like it,' Hamilton said. 'That field, that stadium with the sun out it's amazing. Being able to be in LA now, that experience gives me a little extra. I'm just excited to get out there and explore a little bit.'
Known for his physical play and relentless effort, Hamilton aims to establish himself as a dominant run stopper and versatile defender while bringing a tough, team-first mentality to a rising Rams defense.
'I bring a lot of physicality. I'm a dominant run stopper, a guy that can also play on third down and rush the passer a little bit,' he explained. 'You're going to get a hard-nosed guy that's ready to work, a great locker room guy with no issues off the field.'
His approach? Keep his head down and earn it.
'To be able to do that, to be exceptional, I'm just going to put my head down and work.'
