Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation
Limited (BMRCL) source explained the change in starting point for the inaugural ride. 'Though the Yellow Line network starts at RV Road Interchange, VIPs using the station would result in causing inconvenience to Metro passengers using the operational Green Line. Security concerns will force closure of RV Road station, which is not advisable. In public interest, an inaugural event has been planned from Ragigudda station and PM Modi will board the train there,' the official said.

After the ride, the Prime Minister will take part in an inaugural event at the International Institute of Information Technology Bengaluru (IIITB) campus, where industry leaders are expected to be present.
Project background and costs
Sanctioned in 2014 as part of Phase II of Namma Metro, the Yellow Line faced multiple delays before work began in 2017. The ₹7,610 crore project cost works out to roughly ₹400 crore per kilometre.
Live Events
The line will initially run with three trainsets. Once 15 trainsets are in service, peak-hour frequency will improve to five minutes, and with 41 trainsets by March 2026, intervals could be as short as two minutes.
Trains will start in semi-automated mode with supervision before moving towards full automation.
Major stations and interchanges
The corridor connects RV Road in the north to Bommasandra in the south, with stops including Jayadeva Hospital (Pink Line interchange), Central Silk Board (Blue Line interchange), BTM Layout, Bommanahalli, Electronics City, and Hebbagodi.
RV Road will become Bengaluru's second major interchange hub after Kempegowda station, with a built-up area of 15,558 sqm. Current Green Line ridership is about 17,000 daily, a figure expected to grow with the Yellow Line's integration.
Last-mile connectivity plans
To help passengers complete their journeys, BMTC will introduce 12 feeder buses from Monday. Two buses will link Bommasandra and Konappana Agrahara every 30 minutes, and eight will run from Electronics City to Kodathi on two routes, operating at 30 to 60-minute intervals.
'We have held discussions with BMRCL, the Electronics City Industries Association, and the Electronics City Industrial Township Authority to understand the requirements for feeder buses. As the number of trains on the Yellow Line grows, we will also add feeder buses as per passenger frequency,' said Ramachandran R, Managing Director, BMTC.
While BMTC aims to connect all Yellow Line stations, separate dedicated feeder buses for each stop are not considered feasible. 'Instead, depending on the number of commuters, we will reroute existing buses to pass through these stations. The multi-utility of our resources is important,' Ramachandran added.
Electric mobility and pedestrian access
BMRCL's Last-Mile Cell is partnering with companies such as Honda and Sun Mobility to set up EV charging stations along the route. A senior official from the Cell said, 'This way, people can also use e-bike services to get to the station. We are prioritising EV mobility.'
Plans are also in place to improve footpaths, connecting roads, and auto stands at stations, with Namma Yatri working alongside BMRCL to integrate metro and auto travel for smoother commutes.
With the Prime Minister also scheduled to inaugurate the new Vande Bharat Express to Belagavi from KSR Bengaluru station today, South Western Railway has announced temporary changes. Some services will short-terminate at Bengaluru Cantonment, Kengeri, or Yeshwantpur. Delays are also expected, and passengers have been advised to use the front-side entry to reach all platforms.

Goa govt has Rs 973 crore locked in incomplete projects: CAG

Panaji: Goa has Rs 973.2 crore blocked in 3,395 incomplete projects as of March 31, 2024, reflecting poor execution and weak monitoring of capital works, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said. Of these, 63 projects were reported to be '100% physically completed', but did not attain financial closure, while 128 projects were to be completed by March 2024. Information on the completion timeline or physical progress was missing for 33 projects, said the CAG in its report on state finances for the year 2023-24. The central auditor in its report also flagged missing data from several divisions of the public works, water resources, and power departments, which hindered a full assessment. 'Blocking of funds in incomplete projects and works negatively impacts the quality of expenditure and deprives the state of the intended benefits. Further, funds borrowed for the implementation of these projects during the respective years add to the fiscal burden in terms of servicing of debt and interest liabilities,' said the CAG in its audit report. The report highlights that 115 of these incomplete works, each worth over Rs 1 crore, already consumed Rs 484.1 crore from the state's treasury. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Here's The Price of a 1-Day Walk-in Shower In 2025 Homebuddy Learn More Undo Notably, road widening and hotmixing work in Morjim, initiated in 2015-16, remained unfinished even after eight years. A total of 102 large projects, with an estimated cost of Rs 790.7 crore, were delayed by one to three years. The roads, bridges and buildings department accounted for 78% of the total estimated cost of such projects. The CAG said that incomplete works not only fail to benefit citizens but also increase the strain on the state's limited revenue. The CAG recommended that state govt put in place a robust monitoring mechanism to track project progress, enforce timelines, and prevent unnecessary delays. Goa lax about finance panel reports, central grants at risk: CAG

Panaji: Goa needs to make concerted efforts to secure grants recommended by the finance commission, said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India in its latest report. The CAG pointed out that the grants significantly augment the state's resources, but the state risks losing access to the crucial funds due to its failure to comply with constitutional provisions. The 15th finance commission in its main report of 2021-26 had urged all states to constitute a finance commission, act upon its recommendations, and table the action-taken report in the legislature before March 2024. The CAG observed that the 3rd state finance commission for Goa was formed in Dec 2016 after a delay of more than six years, and the three-member commission chaired by a retired IAS officer, Daulat Hawaldar, submitted its report in June 2024, well past the deadline. 'State govts may consider the recommendations given by the state finance commissions at the earliest, so that the accepted ones can be implemented promptly,' said the CAG in its report for the year ending March 2024. The CAG pointed out that no grants would be released to a state that has not complied with the constitutional provisions in respect of state finance commissions. The CAG's audit found that Goa has consistently failed to adhere to the finance commission recommendations, as state govt constituted only three state finance commissions between 1999 and 2022, instead of the six due under constitutional provisions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Stylish New Mobility Scooters Available for Seniors (Prices May Surprise You) Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Search Now Undo Reports of the 1st and 2nd state finance commissions, along with the action-taken reports, remain pending for submission to the assembly as of Dec 2024. A committee set up in 2010 to examine the 2nd state finance commission's recommendations failed to submit its report for over 14 years, effectively rendering the work of both commissions infructuous. The 3rd state finance commission, headed by Hawaldar, gave seven financial and twelve non-financial recommendations. In its recommendation, it continued the existing devolution of 10% of Goa's own tax revenue. Further, the commission recommended an additional budget provision of Rs 50 crore per year with an annual increase of 10% every year in the 2024-28 period as compensation for revenue loss caused by the implementation of GST. NU students council poll among demands raised at Gadkari's Janata Darbar

Nagpur: The last election for Nagpur University (NU) student council was held in September 2019 and now demand is being made to conduct a fresh election. The demand was taken up on Sunday at Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's Janata Darbar, where other issues like space for a Muslim kabrastan, salaries for teachers in Naxal-affected border villages, and job reinstatement were also raised. National Students' Union of India (NSUI) district member Abdul Reheman claimed that student representation has weakened and left major issues unresolved at NU in absence of a students' council. "The union has renewed calls to continue with the "carry-on" system. This is about fairness and the future of thousands of students. We will push until the rules are revised and elections are held," Reheman said. He noted that while the student body's tenure is technically one year, the election process itself takes nearly two months, with official notices consuming another 6-8 months. "Gadkari has directed NU core committee member Vishnu Chande to look into the matter," said Rehemen. Some citizens present at the Janata Darbar sought urgent attention to their civic grievances. Farukh Sheikh from Jaripatka said the Muslim graveyard in his locality is full, forcing families to bury loved ones in distant areas. "A graveyard is not just land; it's the final resting place. Denying a place for it in one's own locality is against dignity," he said. "Now, I am selling tea outside the station. I am asking for the right to work with dignity," she said. A teacher from Bhandara appealed against reduced salaries for employees in Naxal-affected border villages, warning it demoralises staff despite lingering security risks. The Al Nushrat Foundation, which supports underprivileged children and families, sought Gadkari's help for an ambulance and computers to provide free Aadhaar, ration, and voter card services. Gadkari advised them to apply under govt schemes. Residents of Ghughus, Chandrapur, demanded completion of the long-delayed flyover near Rajiv Ratan Chowk railway crossing, saying the four-year delay has led to congestion and accidents. Mala Meshram, a local resident, recalled a mother and newborn died at the crossing, underscoring the urgent need for action.
