Mamata to visit Delhi next Monday, may meet PM Modi
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit New Delhi on June 9 and may meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She is likely to return on June 11.
Sources at Nabanna, the state secretariat, said that the CM's Office has sought an appointment from the PMO for a meeting on June 10. 'The chief minister wants to raise the issue of the Centre's pending funds and dues to the West Bengal government, which has now ballooned to over Rs 2 lakh 27 thousand crore,' an official said.
The TMC government in the state has been raising the issue of pending Central funds for schemes like MGNREGA (rural job guarantee scheme) and PM Awas Yojana (housing scheme for the poor), and has even knocked the doors of the Supreme Court. The BJP government at the Centre has justified the blocking of the funds, citing alleged corruption in the implementation of the schemes in the state.
Last week, Banerjee had skipped the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog in Delhi that was chaired by the PM.
Sources close to Mamata said she decided not to attend the previous meeting because the NDA-led states were allotted more than 15 minutes to speak, while she was given only five minutes.
During her visit, Banerjee will also inaugurate her party's new office in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Banerjee on Thursday visited SSKM Hospital in Kolkata for a follow-up of her leg injury that she had received while campaigning for the party in Nandigram during the 2021 Assembly elections.

Another top Maoist with 45L bounty killed in encounter
Raipur: In yet another big blow to the Left Wing Extremism (LWE), another senior Maoist rank cadre — Bhaskar, who carried Rs 45 lakh bounty — was neutralized on Friday in an encounter that broke out in the same area where Maoists central committee member Sudhakar alias Tentu Lakshmi Narasimha Chalam was gunned down on Thursday in the forests of Bijapur. The encounter was part of the same anti-Maoist operation underway since Wednesday being carried out by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CoBRA. Intermittent firing between security forces and the Maoist ultras took place the whole day and after the guns fell silent, security forces recovered the body of 45-year-old Maoist Bhaskar, who carried a bounty of Rs 25 lakh in Chhattisgarh and Rs 20 lakh in Telangana. Bhaskar was a Special Zonal Committee member of Telangana State Committee and was reportedly operating in the dense forests of Indravati National Park — a known Maoist stronghold. Three days ago, TOI had reported that security forces in Bastar have precise information on the locations of nine top Maoist commanders in Bastar division, and an operation to eliminate them is imminent unless they surrender. In the same operation on June 5, security forces had recovered the body of Central Committee member Gautam alias Sudhakar along with an AK-47 rifle. The search operation in the area is still ongoing to trace other Maoist cadres in the nearby area. US lawmaker urges Pakistani delegation to wipe out 'vile' Jaish-e-Mohammed
A senior American lawmaker told a Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led Pakistani delegation the US that Islamabad should do "all it can" to eliminate the "vile" terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. Pakistan is also sending delegations to select countries to affirm its stance over terrorism, a move similar to India's global outreach program on Operation Sindoor and its anti-terror stand. The Zardari-led Pakistani delegation timed its visit to the US capital around the same time as the Indian delegation led by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, news agency PTI reported. The Pakistan delegation met with Congressman Brad Sherman in Washington on Thursday, with the leader taking to X to say that he highlighted to the Pakistani delegation the "importance of combatting terrorism, and in particular, the group Jaish-e-Mohammed, who murdered my constituent Daniel Pearl in 2002'. JeM terrorist Omar Saeed Sheikh was convicted of orchestrating the 2002 kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.
