Jets owner Woody Johnson buys stake in Premier League's Crystal Palace
Woody Johnson is going international.
The New York Jets owner has become a familiar face across the pond in recent years, having previously served as the United States ambassador to the United Kingdom during President Donald Trump's first administration. As the NFL's international marketing rights have expanded, teams began vying for exclusive shares of specific markets.

Johnson's Jets were awarded marketing rights to the UK, making it the green-and-whites' second home under the NFL Global Markets program. Eight other teams have those rights.
Now Johnson is digging into the world's game, buying a stake in the Premier League's Crystal Palace. The move was announced by the soccer team on Monday, with ESPN reporting the 43% stake owned by John Textor was sold to Johnson for $254 million.
'Whilst the completion is pending approval from the Premier League and Women's Super League, we do not envisage any issues and look forward to welcoming Woody as a partner and director of the club,' the club said in a statement.

The sale will have to pass the league's Owners and Directors' Test, something that isn't expected to be a problem.
Johnson bought the Jets for $635 million in 2000, an NFL record at the time. He now adds a second professional sports franchise to his portfolio, a trend that is becoming increasingly commonplace across pro sports. Johnson is set to join a Crystal Palace ownership group that includes Washington Commanders owners, Josh Harris and David Blitzer – who each own 18% of the club.
The Jets owner previously attempted to buy Chelsea F.C. in 2022, noting he became a fan of the team during his time as ambassador.
Now it appears Johnson will be trading in his Chelsea blue for Palace's red-and-blue.

Manchester United have submitted an improved offer to Brentford totalling in excess of £60million ($81.1m) for Bryan Mbeumo. Analysis by Carl Anka Bryan Mbeumo is a good player and should fit whatever style of football Ruben Amorim wants to play next season at Manchester United. The 25-year-old scored 20 goals and provided eight assists for Brentford last season, establishing himself as one of the better forwards in the Premier League. He is versatile and efficient in front of goal. Give him the ball and he'll look to get things done. Mbeumo has developed from a promising youngster in the Championship into a forward capable of taking on Champions League defences. The Cameroon international has been deployed in several roles at Brentford, impressing as a right winger in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 setup (playing off Ivan Toney), and thriving as a striker in a 3-5-2 alongside Yoane Wissa. He is direct. Naturally left-footed, but not shy about using his right, he excels when driving into space. A look at his goals and assists from last season shows a player who has favoured areas in and around the penalty area, and knows how to get to them consistently. His versatility is alluring but Mbeumo's best fit would be as the right-sided No 10 in Amorim's 3-4-3. A look at Mbeumo's progressive carries from 2024-25 shows a left-footed player equally capable of cutting inside or getting chalk on his boots on the outside. If he were to join Amorim's side, he would help provide additional angles of attack, making the team less one-dimensional in the final third. More/Getty Images When Barkley declared for the 2018 NFL Draft, he was expected to be a top pick. The Giants called on the superstar back with their second-overall pick. In 2018, Barkley represented the Giants as a Pro Bowler and the Offensive Rookie of the Year. For six seasons, Barkley starred for the Giants. He appeared in 74 games with the team and rushed for over 5,200 yards and 35 touchdowns. After the 2023 NFL season, Barkley famously hit the free agency market and signed with New York's NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, after the NY front office struggled to come to terms on a new deal with Barkley. Tracy entered the Giants' backfield as their fifth-round pick out of Purdue last season. The rookie appeared in 17 games and picked up 192 carries. With an average of 4.4 yards per carry, Tracy finished the season with 839 yards. He reached the endzone five times on the ground and scored one through the air. The second-year running back wasn't selected to be a Barkley replacement on his own. While he could be first in line to lead carries on Sundays next season, New York still has Devin Singletary in the mix, along with the rookie Cam Skattebo. Either way, the young veteran has surrounded himself with great company, as Barkley is coming off of one of the most dominant rushing seasons the NFL has seen.
