Pastor held for aidingconversion with Chennai fund trail

Time of India5 days ago
Lucknow: In a crackdown on illegal religious conversions, Sitapur Police on Wednesday arrested five persons, including a pastor, from Ram Pur Mathna Murawnpurwa village in Imaliya Sultanpur area.
Investigations revealed that the pastor received funds from Chennai to facilitate conversions and construct prayer halls.
Sitapur SP Ankur Agarwal said the main accused, pastor Vinod Pal Singh, a native of Lakhimpur Kheri, was converting villagers to Christianity. He was arrested along with his wife Jyoti and three local aides — Anant Ram, Shubhkaran and Ramit — all residents of Murawnpurwa.
Police seized religious books and some conversion-related material from Vinod. During the probe, a bank account linked to Vinod was found to have suspicious transactions. He confessed to receiving money from Chennai, which was used to lure people into converting and for setting up prayer halls. Vinod's account has been frozen, and other linked accounts are being traced. Police sources said the phones of the accused are being analysed to identify other individuals involved in the racket.
The arrested individuals have been sent to jail. Further investigation is underway to identify the full extent of the religious conversion network and its sources of funding.

7 Delhi cops ‘fail to intercept' dummy bomb during Independence Day mock drill, suspended

Seven policemen were suspended after allegedly failing to intercept a Delhi Police Special Cell team that snuck in with a dummy bomb during a mock drill at the Red Fort, officers said. Drills are being conducted across the national capital to test security arrangements ahead of Independence Day, they said. The authorities concerned will now review all security arrangements from scratch and implement an improved and revised plan, senior officers said. The seven policemen would also be subjected to a departmental inquiry, officers added. The mock drill, which exposed the security lapse, was just one among many that would be conducted in the run-up to the 79th Independence Day. Several security measures are already in place. A two-layered ring security system has been formed, comprising officers from the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP). Snipers, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commandos, drones, and 700 AI-enabled CCTV cameras with facial recognition facilities are also part of the arrangements. Some of the new security arrangements in place, as reported by The Indian Express on Monday, include an Under Vehicle Surveillance System. Large-scale mock emergency exercises, hotel inspections, and increased patrolling are among the measures that are already being implemented, said officers.

Bones Found From New Site In Dharmasthala Mass Burial Case

Dharmasthala (Karnataka): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged mass burial case in Dharmasthala on Monday recovered multiple skeletal remains from a new site identified by the anonymous complainant, police sources said. Under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) Pranab Mohanty, the SIT halted exhumations at the designated 11th site and redirected operations to a previously unexamined spot at a place called Banglegudde. The new site, located on an elevated terrain nearly 100 feet high, has yielded several skeletal fragments, including skulls and other human bones, sources in the police said. According to sources, the SIT, which is investigating the case of hundreds of alleged illegal burials between 1995 and 2014, has already gathered Unnatural Death Report (UDR) records for the period. Despite earlier records being tampered with or missing from Belthangady police archives, prior data collection ordered by Mohanty soon after the SIT's constitution helped preserve critical evidence. Police officials said the recovered skeletal remains have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to determine age, gender, and possible cause of death. The skeletal remains that were recovered from site No. 6 on July 31 have been sent for forensic examination. Attempts to exhume at four other locations--labelled sites 7 to 10--had earlier failed to produce conclusive evidence, further intensifying focus on the new site. Minor injuries were reported among a few personnel during the operation due to the difficult terrain, police officials said. The SIT has invited residents who had earlier lodged complaints or shared information to actively engage with the ongoing investigation. Officials said that recovering as many skeletals as possible remains a top priority in one of Karnataka's largest forensic-led investigations. The SIT investigation continues under tight secrecy, with daily operations expected to proceed based on emerging findings. The SIT was formed by the state government after allegations emerged of mass murder, rape, and illegal burials in Dharmasthala over the past two decades. The complainant, a former sanitation worker whose identity has not been disclosed, claimed that he was employed in Dharmasthala between 1995 and 2014. He alleged that he was forced to bury several bodies--including those of women and minors--some of which bore signs of sexual assault. He has since recorded a statement before a magistrate in connection with these claims.

Drone ban in several UP districts amid rising security concerns

Ayodhya/Muzaffarnagar/Mathura/Meerut/Bijnor, In the wake of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directive to tighten enforcement of drone regulations across Uttar Pradesh, several districts including Ayodhya, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, Meerut and Bijnor have imposed bans on unauthorised drone operations to prevent the misuse of drones and curb rising public anxiety caused by circulating rumours and false videos, officials said on Monday. Drone ban in several UP districts amid rising security concerns In Ayodhya, where drone restrictions were earlier limited to the temple town area surrounding the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, a blanket ban on drone operations has now been enforced across the entire district. Ayodhya District Magistrate Nikhil Tikaram Funde, exercising powers under BNSS Section 163, declared the ban at a joint press conference with Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover on Monday. "Suspicious drone activity has been reported from several districts, which could potentially aid criminal acts or trigger panic," the DM said, adding that only police and authorised security agencies will be exempt from the order. Private individuals and organisations must obtain prior written permission to fly drones. The order in Ayodhya follows a high-level videoconference chaired by Chief Minister Adityanath on Sunday, where he instructed district magistrates and police officials to strictly monitor drone activity in light of 17 FIRs and 29 arrests linked to drone-related rumours. The chief minister warned that unauthorised drone usage could result in action under the Gangsters Act, and, if necessary, even the National Security Act . "Any attempt to spread fear or misinformation using drones will not be tolerated. Police should increase foot patrols, engage village security committees, and seize unauthorised drones," the CM said, adding that "technology must not be misused." Similar action has been taken in Muzaffarnagar, where District Magistrate Umesh Mishra on Monday said that all drone operations must be approved in advance. "Drone flying without permission is banned in the district. Strict action, including Gangsters Act provisions, will be taken against those spreading fake rumours," Mishra said. He added that at least 20 people have been arrested from different police station areas and security has been increased in 177 sensitive villages. In Mathura, Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar issued a public appeal urging residents to inform local police stations before flying drones. "People should avoid believing or spreading rumours and must not circulate unverified videos or posts on social media. Action will be taken against anyone found guilty of doing so," Kumar said, adding that while no drone-related incident has occurred in Mathura so far, caution is being exercised. In Bijnor, District Magistrate Jasjit Kaur confirmed a ban on unauthorised drone flights in response to rising rumours and public fear. "Now, for weddings or other events, prior permission will be required for drone use," she said. SP Abhishek Jha added that incidents involving toy helicopters mistaken for drones had led to unnecessary panic, and two people have been booked under BNSS Section 170 for flying such objects at night. Night patrolling has been stepped up and all drone owners will be subject to verification and registration. Meerut Range's DIG of Police, Kalanidhi Naithani, recently reaffirmed the implementation of India's Drone Policy and the UP Drone Surveillance and Security Policy 2023. "There are clear rules for drone operations, and strict action will be taken against those creating panic through misinformation," he said.
