On Tuesday morning, fans and media began gathering near Yeoncheon Public Stadium in Gyeonggi Province to welcome the two stars. Jimin and Jung Kook appeared with bright smiles, offering brief greetings and expressing their sincere gratitude to supporters who had waited for their return.
'Thank you to the fans and reporters who came to see us,' Jimin said. 'It's been a long time, from the pandemic to military service. Now that we're back, we'll work hard to show you what we've prepared.'
'There were a lot of unforgettable moments,' Jung Kook added. 'Thanks to everyone who served with us and supported us along the way.' Jimin also hinted at what's to come: 'Now that I'm discharged, I think it's time we continue drawing the picture we had in mind. We'll prepare well and share it with you soon.' He concluded: 'Military life wasn't easy, but I'm grateful for the memories. If you see a soldier on the street, a warm gesture can mean a lot.'
The two enlisted together in late 2023, completing basic training at the same boot camp before being assigned to separate units. Jimin served with the military band under the 5th Infantry Division, while Jung Kook completed his service with the Baekma Division.
During their time in uniform, both BTS members continued to make waves in the music world. Jimin made history as the first Korean solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 with his single 'Like Crazy' from the album FACE, while Jung Kook's solo debut GOLDEN peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned international acclaim across global charts.
BTS has been on hiatus from group activities since 2023 as members fulfilled their enlistment obligations but with Jin and j-hope, as well as RM and V as of Tuesday and now Jimin and Jung Kook discharged, the group's full return is right around the corner, only awaiting SUGA's return.
Their highly anticipated first public reunion is set at the upcoming 2025 BTS FESTA, taking place June 13-14 at KINTEX in Goyang, South Korea. The event promises to be a powerful homecoming celebration for fans worldwide and the start of BTS' next chapter.

Park Chan-wook booted off Writer's Guild of America

11 Aug – South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook was revealed to have been expelled from the Writers' Guild of America, alongside his co-scribe Don McKellar. Their wrongdoing? Writing on their HBO limited series, "The Sympathizer" during the 2023 writers' strike. The "Oldboy" director was reported to have written the series adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen despite writers being directed not to work during the 148-day strike, and was one among the few writers who had since been booted off the guild. While other writers appealed the ruling, it was reported that neither Park nor McKellar have done the same. The HBO Max series, which earned Robert Downey Jr. an Emmy nomination last year, follows a North Vietnamese double agent (played by Hoa Xuande) who continues passing along information after moving to Southern California before the fall of Saigon. ‘My Lovely Journey' Wonders What's Next For An Ex K-Pop Trainee

Kang Yeo-reum has been on the same journey since she became a k-pop trainee at the age of 13, but that journey has ended, so she has to decide where she will go next. Yeo-reum, the main character in the k-drama My Lovely Journey, wanted to become a star so she could make her parents proud. But after her years in a girl group did not lead to success, she became a travel reporter for a show that explored Korea. Yet no matter how hard she tried to make that show a success, she was stymied by an annoying director and his choices eventually got the show cancelled. Yeo-reum, played by Gong Seung-yeon (Karma, Are You Human, Flower Crew Joseon Marriage Agency), is one of the year's most likable k-drama heroines. She works hard, remains optimistic and cheerful, but life keeps piling on the failures, including a failed relationship with a boyfriend who didn't deserve her. Her agent Oh Sang-sik, played by Yu Jun-sang (The Uncanny Counter 2, Alchemy of Souls, The Penthouse) is down to his last two clients and with the cancellation of her show, it seems the end of her career might lead to the end of his agency. Her sense of delight in the surrounding world is an untapped talent. When things start to get desperate, she's offered a fee to take a mystery trip and film the location. The concept is a little weird, but, out of options, she eventually agrees. For the first time in her life, she must make all the arrangements and call the shots. It's an emotional journey of self discovery. The drama explores what happens when the k-pop dream isn't realized . An ex-trainee might be unprepared to deal with practicalities once they are no longer micro managed by an agency. In that way it's a coming of age story even though Yeo-reum is old enough to take care of herself. She's sure that her trip means the end of her career but it might be a new beginning. Lee Yeon-seok, played by Kim Jae-young (Love In Contract, Reflection of You, Judge From Hell) is a TV editor connected with her show. Or he was until he spoke up to defend her. He's been watching her from afar and he knows how she's suffered. As a stymied film director he needs to change his life too. The drama is based on the 2021 novel Oka no Ue no Kenjin Tabya Okeri by Maha Harada. It's directed by Kang Sol and was adapted for the screen by Jang Hwee-hyun. My Lovely Journey airs on in the U.S.

Park Chan-wook expelled from The Writers Guild of America

Park Chan-wook has been expelled from The Writers Guild of America. The Old Boy director, 61, was drummed out of the group as it has taken a firm stance on strike violations, and said Park and Don McKellar were no longer welcome in the organisation for working on their mini-series during the 2023 writers' walk-out. It said in a statement about Park and Don's expulsions: 'The board had decided that the disciplines should be made public.' Celebrated South Korean writer, director and producer Park also known for his film The Handmaiden, and Canadian actor and filmmaker Don McKellar, were both removed from the WGA for writing on the HBO miniseries The Sympathizer. The seven-episode series, starring Hoa Xuande and Robert Downey Jr., is based on the 2015 novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen and aired in 2024. The WGA confirmed neither Park nor McKellar appealed their expulsions. Anthony Cipriano has also faced significant disciplinary action – a suspension through May 1, 2026, a public censure, and a lifetime ban from serving as a strike captain for writing on The Last Breath, previously known as Untitled True Story Haunting – Thriller Project. The WGA revealed this was part of ongoing enforcement following the 2023 strike, with seven writers disciplined overall. Four writers were publicly identified after choosing to appeal, while three others – including Park, Don and Anthony – were only named recently. The guild's leadership expressed gratitude for the Strike Rules Compliance Committee, which reviewed dozens of allegations and forwarded cases to the board. It added in a statement: 'The board and the officers also thanked the members of the various trial committees, who heard testimony and delivered recommendations on discipline to the board. 'All of these members volunteered their time for the delicate but necessary task of holding writers accountable to fulfill their obligations to their fellow members under the Strike Rules, Working Rules and WGAW Constitution.' Park's upcoming Korean film No Other Choice is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival later this month. Don, who shares a screenplay credit on that film with Park and collaborators Lee Kyoung-mi and Lee Ja-hye, is also known for his work on 1998's Last Night.
