Former Cardinals Pro Bowl lineman Luis Sharpe dead at 65
He was 65.
The Cardinals confirmed Sharpe's death through his family, a team spokesman said Saturday.

Sharpe's wife, Tameka Williams-Sharpe, also posted about her husband's passing on social media.
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Sharpe played all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Cardinals, spanning from 1982 to 1994.
He made three straight Pro Bowls from 1987 to 1989 and was a second-team All-Pro selection in 1988 and 1990.
Sharpe was born in Havana and played in college at UCLA. He started all 189 games he played in the NFL and was one of the team's best players during their transition from St. Louis to Arizona in 1988.
'Throughout his lengthy and accomplished career with the Cardinals, Luis Sharpe exhibited an uncommon type of strength and toughness that made him so successful as a player,' Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said in a statement. 'We send our deepest condolences to all of those who love Luis, in particular his family and former teammates.'

Buccaneers and Seahawks to wear throwback jerseys in Week 5 meeting to celebrate 50th seasons
The Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will both wear throwback jerseys when they square off on Week 5 at Lumen Field. Celebrating their 50th seasons in the NFL, both sides will wear threads from their inaugural campaigns in 1976. On Friday, the teams announced on social media that they will be sporting the vintage kits and helmets when they meet on October 5. The Bucs will wear the white version of the Creamsicle jersey and the Seahawks will wear their old royal blue ensembles. The looks are a nod to their first meeting in their debut seasons in the NFL. Seattle defeated Tampa Bay 13-10 in one of their two wins to finish 2-12. The Buccaneers struggled in their first season, going 0-14. Since then, both teams have had their share of success. The Buccaneers won titles in 2003 against the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021. The Seahawks won their rings in 2014 by beating the Denver Broncos. Aside from the Week 5 game, the Buccaneers will be wearing the alternate version of their old jerseys in their home opener against the New York Jets in Week 3. The Seahawks finished last season with a 10-7 record but missed the postseason for the second straight year. Tampa Bay topped the NFC South with a 10-7 record and lost to Washington in a wild-card game. So far this offseason, Seattle traded two-time Pro Bowl receiver DK Metcalf to the Steelers and veteran quarterback Geno Smith to the Raiders. In exchange, they received second- and third-round picks, which ultimately resulted in the selections of tight end Elijah Arroyo from Miami and quarterback Jalen Milroe from Alabama. Seattle also made a big splash by signing Pro Bowl quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year deal worth $100.5 million after his successful stint in Minnesota. Tampa Bay re-signed Chris Godwin to a three-year, $66 million deal after he suffered a dislocated ankle that ended his season early. The 29-year-old was set to enter free agency before the Bucs extended his time in Tampa Bay with $44 million in guaranteed money. The Buccaneers and Seahawks' game, dubbed the Expansion Bowl, will air on NBC.

Falcons' Chris Lindstrom voted top interior offensive lineman by AP
Chris Lindstrom has spent much of his six-year career under the radar playing for an Atlanta team that hasn't made the postseason since 2017. But Lindstrom's play deserves much more attention as his ability to create holes in the run game and protect the passer is a key part to Atlanta's offensive production. Lindstrom has been the top-graded guard by Pro Football Focus for three straight seasons and has won the honor of being voted the top interior offensive lineman in the league by The Associated Press. A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players among guards and centers, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season. First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2 and 1 points. Lindstrom got three first place-votes, two seconds and one third to beat out Joe Thuney for the top spot. Thuney, who was traded from Kansas City to Chicago this offseason, got two first-place votes, one second, three thirds and one fourth to finish second. Kansas City center Creed Humphrey got two first-place votes and finished third and Denver's Quinn Meinerz got the other first-place vote and came in fourth. Indianapolis' Quenton Nelson rounded out the top five. Baltimore Tyler Linderbaum, Philadelphia's Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens, Baltimore's Daniel Faalele and recently retired former Detroit center Frank Ragnow also received votes. 1. CHRIS LINDSTROM, Atlanta Falcons Lindstrom has allowed just three sacks and 37 pressures on true pass sets the past three seasons, according to PFF, and has been a steady presence on Atlanta's offense. But Lindstrom really shines at run blocking when his ability to get in space on zone runs has helped fuel Bijan Robinson's success. 2. JOE THUNEY, Chicago Bears Thuney has been one of the top guards in the league ever since being drafted by New England in 2016. He has been a first-team All-Pro the past two seasons in Kansas City and helped the Chiefs and Patriots reach the Super Bowl six times in his nine seasons. Thuney was forced to move out to tackle late last season for Kansas City, but will be back at guard as a key piece in Chicago following on offseason trade. 3. CREED HUMPHREY, Kansas City Chiefs The Chiefs were willing to part with Thuney in part because they were strong at the other interior spots led by Humphrey at center. Humphrey has taken the mantle from Jason Kelce as the top center in the league and made first-team All-Pro for the first time last season. Humphrey hasn't missed a game in four seasons and excels at both run and pass blocking. 4. QUINN MEINERZ, Denver Broncos After being drafted in the third round from Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2021, Meinerz has made steady progress each season and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2024 to get on this list. Meinerz allowed just 12 pressures last season, according to PFF, and is a violent blocker in the run game. 5. QUENTON NELSON, Indianapolis Colts Nelson's play has dropped a little in recent years but the 29-year-old is still one of the top guards in the league. He was an All-Pro his first three seasons after being drafted sixth overall in 2018 and earned second-team All-Pro honors for the second time in his career last season. 2025 NFL Odds: Early Week 1 Best Bets For Chargers-Chiefs, Vikings-Bears
Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025. That date might seem a long way away since many of us are enjoying the warm summer months and burning ample vacation days. Don't you worry, though. NFL games will light up our television screens very, very soon. I'm mostly an underdog bettor in the regular season and am almost magnetically attracted to divisional underdogs in Week 1. And there's just something about a team catching a small number against a public darling. Here are three NFL dogs to consider for opening week. Los Angeles Chargers (+2.5) vs. Kansas City Chiefs To Sao Paulo we go for this Friday night tilt. Las Vegas oddsmakers opened this game just shy of a field goal, and it hasn't budged one bit. There's clearly built-in respect to open a team +2.5 instead of +3, and it's a good sign for the Chargers it hasn't ticked up yet. You might have heard the stat about Patrick Mahomes being 19-4 as a starting quarterback in the month of September and surely, it's not ideal to be on the other side of that. But trends were meant to be broken. I will have my money on Jim Harbaugh and the Bolts as a very live 'dog in Brazil. If you want to hold out for a +3, so be it. PICK: Chargers (+2.5) to lose by fewer than 2.5 points or win outright Atlanta Falcons (+2.5) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Please get the best number in this one. BetMGM and DraftKings are dealing Atlanta +2.5, while Pinnacle and South Point are at +1.5, CRIS and SuperBook are +1 and Circa has a pick 'em. I have little sympathy for anybody who bets Falcons PK instead of +2.5. Seriously. All Atlanta hype revolves around second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr., a southpaw with an absolute rifle under center. The Falcons have been accumulating skill players for years, but they thought Kirk Cousins, off an Achilles injury, was the solution in 2024. Close but no cigar. The market feels some type of way about the Falcons, as some of the world's sharpest shops have already been hit. I loved them taking defensive studs Jalon Walker (Georgia) and James Pearce Jr. (Tennessee) in Round 1. Go grab that +2.5 while you still can. PICK: Falcons (+2.5) to lose by fewer than 2.5 points or win outright Minnesota Vikings (+1.5) @ Chicago Bears After gambling on the NFL Thursday, Friday and Sunday, we get one more crack Monday night between Caleb Williams and J.J. McCarthy. As a native Chicagoan, I need two hands to count the amount of times the Bears won the draft or offseason and expectations were unfairly high all summer. It's not that I don't believe in Williams or new head coach Ben Johnson, I want to be patient with a QB learning another new system. Meanwhile, McCarthy spent his entire rookie season learning Kevin O'Connell's system after tearing his meniscus last August. He'll be playing behind an improved offensive line with Aaron Jones, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Rondale Moore and T.J. Hockenson at the skill positions. It's difficult to put a young quarterback in a better spot. Minnesota's 53-man roster is one of the best in the league and I think the Vikings go into Soldier Field and leave with a victory.
