Six held for scam involving fake allotment orders

Time of India2 days ago
Chennai: Six people, including two couples, have been arrested for cheating over 200 people of 5cr by issuing them fake allotment orders for houses under the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (formerly Slum Clearance Board).
Police said the case came to light after Muthulakshmi of Anna Nagar lodged a complaint saying she had paid 3.5lakh for a house. She was issued a fake allotment order bearing forged govt seals and stamps. Muthulakshmi was one of more than 200 victims who approached the accused through mutual contacts over the past few years.
The suspects assured the victims that the allotment process would be completed once the housing complex was ready, asserting that govt officials would formally hand over the keys during an official function.

Over time, they offered various excuses to delay the allotments until the victims realised they had been defrauded.
The complaint, submitted to the city police commissioner, was forwarded to the Forgery Investigation Wing of the CCB on Feb 7.
As an investigation led by assistant commissioner M Gayathri and inspector M Sheejarani confirmed the fraud, police arrested Baranitharan, 46, and his wife Ravathi, 40, of Ayanavaram; Rohini Priya, 49, of Chetpet; and Abdul Nasser, 40, of GKM Colony, Villivakkam on Wednesday.
All four were remanded in custody.
On Friday, Gajendran, 38, and his wife Chamundeeshwari, 39, of Ambattur, were also arrested for their involvement in the scam. During searches at Gajendran's residence, officers seized forged govt seals, stamps, and other incriminating documents. The couple was remanded in judicial custody the same day.

UP Man Celebrates Rakhi, Then Kills Sister, Days After Murdering Her Lover

Jhansi (UP): A man, vexed with her 18-year-old sister's affair with a man, allegedly killed her after celebrating Raksha Bandhan in the Garautha area here, police on Sunday said. The body of Kumari Sahodar alias Putti was found on Sunday with a shaved head near Dada Maharaj platform in a deserted area of Chandrapura village, police said. Putti's brother, Arvind, and a friend of his, Prakash Prajapati, both aged around 25, have been detained in connection with the murder. The killing came on the heels of another murder – Putti's lover's. On August 7, the body of 19-year-old Vishal, a native of Lahchura, was found dumped in Gudha village. According to police, four months ago, Putti and Vishal ran away from home, but were persuaded to return. A mutual settlement was struck between the two families, and things cooled off for a while. However, soon, both lovers started meeting. This reigniting of the affair was not to the liking of Arvind, who had returned to the village from Pune a few days ago. After his return, police said, he roped in Prakash Prajapati to kill both of them. On the morning of August 7, the two took away Vishal on the pretext of getting him a job and killed him, police said. Both were booked by the police in connection with the murder on the complaint of Vishal's father, Halkeram. While the investigation was still taking off in that case, on Saturday, Arvind took Putti on the pretext of getting her medicine and killed her as well, according to police.

Man Carries Wife's Body Tied To Motorcycle After Fatal Accident In Nagpur, Video Goes Viral

Last Updated: A video showing Amit transporting his wife's body tied to his motorcycle has gone viral on social media. A disturbing video has emerged from Nagpur, which shows a man carrying the body of his deceased wife tied to a motorcycle after allegedly receiving no help from passersby. The incident took place on Sunday at nearly 12 p.m. on the Nagpur-Jabalpur National Highway near the Morfata area under the Deolapar police jurisdiction. The woman identified as Gyarsi Amit Yadav, died on the spot after being hit by a speeding truck. Her husband, Amit Yadav, was left helpless after repeated pleas for assistance were ignored. After failing to get any help to transport the body, a desperate Amit decided to tie his wife's body to his two-wheeler and carry it back to their native village in Madhya Pradesh. The couple hailed from Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh, but had been living for the past 10 years in Lonara, near Koradi, Nagpur. The accident took place on Raksha Bandhan, Sunday, when Amit and his wife were travelling by motorcycle from Lonara to Karanpur via Deolapar. A video showing Amit transporting his wife's body tied to his motorcycle has gone viral on social media. While no one came for help initially, several people later tried to stop him once they saw him carrying the body on the motorcycle. Fearing confrontation or trouble, he refused to stop. The highway police, who reportedly filmed the viral video, initially signaled him to halt, but he continued riding. He was eventually stopped some distance ahead. The police took custody of the woman's body and sent it for postmortem to Nagpur's Mayo Hospital. The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about the lack of empathy and emergency response in such tragic situations. view comments First Published: August 11, 2025, 09:18 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
