First Oulton Park crash survivor breaks silence following horror 11-bike accident that saw 2 drivers killed
Shane Richardson and Owen Jenner were killed in a horror crash at Oulton Park in Cheshire on Sunday with five other riders involved in the incident, but escaped with minor injuries
A survivor of the horror Oulton Park crash that claimed the lives of two riders has broken his silence.
Morgan McLaren-Wood emerged with only minor injuries and expressed his deep sorrow, stating on social media that he was "struggling to find the words" following the tragedy that took the lives of fellow New Zealander Shane Richardson and Englishman Owen Jenner during a British Supersport Championship event.
The horrific crash happened on the first bend of the race at Oulton Park, where 11 bikes were caught up in the mayhem.
Richardson suffered critical chest injuries and passed away whilst being moved to Royal Stoke University Hospital after receiving treatment on the track and at the circuit medical centre. He is survived by two young children.
Rapid Honda's Owen Jenner succumbed to a terrible head injury sustained in the crash, dying at the circuit's medical facility. Alongside McLaren-Wood, another four riders – Carl Harris, Max Morgan, Cameron Hall, and Freddie Barnes – were also caught up in the incident but fortunately suffered only minor injuries.
Three other competitors – Lewis Jones, Corey Tinker, and George Edwards – walked away unhurt from the carnage.
Following the incident, McLaren-Wood reached out through social platforms: "Struggling to find the words for what happened today. Rest in peace, Shane and Owen. My heart goes out to both of their families during this heartbreaking time."
President of Motorcycling New Zealand, Michael McLeod, remarked on the profound impact that Richardson's death has had on the motorcycle racing community, highlighting the significant role the 29 year old played in supporting up-and-coming riders within the sport.
He told the Herald: "It's a tragic shock to the motorcycle racing community in New Zealand because he's such a well-respected competitor and mentor to a lot of young up-and-coming riders that are now competing in Europe and England as well. He was a fantastic guy, he'd always stop and have a chat. He's a real nice bloke and it's a real shame."
The race organiser has confirmed that the rest of the event has been cancelled while they begin an investigation into the fatal incident.
A statement from the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing said: "Due to the extreme severity of the incident and ongoing medical intervention, the remainder of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship event was cancelled.
"This catastrophic accident has tragically resulted in two riders being fatally injured, and another sustaining significant injuries. The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing are investigating the full circumstances of the incident in conjunction with the coroner and Cheshire Constabulary."
The Supersport Championship is a feeder series for the main Superbikes event. Last year, New Zealander Richardson finished eighth in the standings with 146 points, and this season marked Jenner's second year in the championship.

Rangers sporting director makes Russell Martin player signing pledge
The Englishman has been involved in every step of the search to find a replacement for Philippe Clement and is confident that Martin, the former MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton manager, is the right man to lead the Glasgow giants forward. He stressed that he and his staff would support the ex-Scotland internationalist in every way that they could and would not sanction the acquisition of any player without receiving his approval first. Read more: 'Put very simply, the way in which we will be organised is we've got a head coach and we've got a sporting director,' he said. 'Head coaches are responsible for the most important bit, preparation of the team, performance of the team, fundamentally the results. My role is to try and make sure that all the support services that sit around Russell are as strong as they possibly can be to give us the best chance of winning. 'When we talk about recruitment, clearly it's going to be a collaborative approach. I've never been in this role ever where I've signed a player for the first team that hasn't been supported by the head coach or the manager. So we'll talk a lot about how we want to play. 'We'll talk a lot about what profiles we think we need and what positions we think we need. And then between Russell and I and the recruitment team, we'll sit down and identify players that we think can make us better very quickly. And then between us, we'll decide about what we do next from that point of perspective. 'That's generally how I've worked and generally how we've discussed how it's going to work. And for me, that's probably been a good way of working so that we've got some clarity. But then also, it's understood it's a collaborative approach where we work together to get the best outcome.' (Image: Colin Mearns) Martin's surprise appointment has not been well received by many Rangers fans – but Thelwell revealed the former Norwich City defender had impressed him and his new colleagues greatly and described the new man in charge as 'the perfect fit'. 'Through a very stringent and very thorough process, it was clear right from the very start to all of us that Russell was the outstanding candidate and we're absolutely delighted that he's decided to join us,' he said. 'He's had a strong career now, over 250 games, both as a manager and as a head coach. We can all see over the course of that journey, he's sharpened his approach, not only from a technical perspective and a tactical perspective, but also from a personal perspective. 'I'm very excited to see what he's going to bring to Rangers Football Club and the team and very much looking forward to working with him going forward.' Read more: Thelwell continued, 'We wanted to use the time well and make sure we made as strong of a decision as we possibly could do. I think it was the right decision to do that. We appreciate there's now pre-season on the horizon and also European games coming thick and fast. 'But we think that by using that time we got exactly the right candidate that's the perfect fit for Rangers Football Club. From my perspective, I've seen Russell's team play for many years. 'In particular, if I look back at that Championship season with Southampton and also the Premier League season, there's a lot to be proud of there and there's a lot that fits Rangers Football Club going forwards.' Asked how he expects Rangers to play under Martin, he said, 'Russell's explained quite clearly what we think Rangers Football Club needs to be. We need to be dominating in all moments, all of those key moments of the game. When we've got it, when we haven't got it and then the transition bits in between. 'I'm delighted that we were able to have those conversations, delighted that you made it slightly easier for me with the negotiations and also very, very pleased that you're sat next to me now and getting ready to work.'

Tuchel said: 'Until that latest injury he was more or less always available, always playable every three days. "He had this consistency in his game and in his body, which made him very unique. 'He was decisive for England, he took responsibility, he bounced back after a decisive and dramatic penalty miss (Euro 2020 final). "The decision has not been taken, but he will be available for the Senegal match, and he plays a major role in our thoughts on how to build a competitive team.' How Lewis-Skelly could be Tuchel's secret weapon for England In addition, Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins will play no part against Andorra or Senegal on Tuesday in Nottingham. The striker withdrew from Tuchel's party as a precaution because of what the FA described as a "minor" issue. Tuchel said: 'Ollie Watkins has a discomfort in his upper thigh or groin area in the muscle and we decided not to take any risks. "He will go home to continue treatment and we will not take any risks in case he gets an injury. It's very minor." Watkins was the top-scoring Englishman in the Premier League last season with 16 goals, one ahead of Chelsea's Cole Palmer. The Villa star scored the dramatic late winner in last summer's European Championship semi-final against Holland. Watkins' withdrawal leaves Tuchel with captain Harry Kane and Saudi-based Ivan Toney as his two centre forwards. England do not intend to bring in a replacement and so will have 25 players for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Andorra and Tuesday's home friendly against Senegal. 5 Ollie Watkins has also pulled out of the squad Credit: PA

Rob Cross enjoys win and breaks silence after being hit with five-year director ban
Englishman sets off-oche issues aside to progress at Nordic Masters by beating Swede Andreas Harryson 6-4 Battling Rob Cross made a winning return on his first appearance since receiving a five-year ban as a director after his company failed to pay over £400,000 in tax. News broke on Thursday over the former World Champion's issue away from the oche. But, as he returned for the Nordic Darts Masters on Friday night, Cross got a success as he defeated Swede Andreas Harryson 6-4 to progress to Saturday's final stages. The Englishman was delighted to get the win in Denmark and, when asked after the victory about his experiences in Copenhagen, he said: 'Yesterday, I walked 14 and a half miles around the city, so it's been nice and I enjoyed it. It's a great place just to go out, really. Fill your lungs up with a bit of air. I've enjoyed my time here. I enjoyed my time last year and it's always a privilege to come back." Cross made the final in 2024 and, asked what it would mean to go one better, he said: "Just a great tournament, a great place in the world and the World Series always offers itself. But to win it this weekend, it would mean a lot. I've had a little bit of time off, a few difficulties, but, at the same time, it would mean a lot to me.' Cross didn't find his best against Harryson, but said: 'I enjoyed the match, I'm not going to lie. I've walked in this weekend, I've just come off of probably two and a half weeks off, I've not really picked them up. A little bit lazy, I suppose. But I needed that. A little bit of a freshen up, but to win that match there, I'll be better tomorrow now. That's 100 per cent. 'I'm where I'm at, you know, if I've not really been playing, where do you (know where your game is? I could have gone out there tonight and hit 120, or I could have gone out there and hit a 48, to be honest. I'm very happy just to get over the line and keep pushing. 'To win this would be fantastic. The crowd's amazing. There's no booing out there, there's only fairness and credit to the Copenhagen people that come out and watch. I appreciate that. That could have been even tougher for me with a few boos, a few whistles. "That could have really swung the game in his favour, I suppose. Not having that gives me the comfort. We all feel it sometimes when they're not quite going, if the crowd gets on your back, darts can be tough. They are very appreciative, but to win it this week, it would mean a lot to me.'
