Ford South Africa has entered into a partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, supplying a fleet of 19 vehicles to improve the Fund's outreach and community-driven initiatives across the country.
The fund is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
'As a brand that recently celebrated its own centenary, Ford understands the importance of giving back and forging enduring partnerships that drive meaningful progress in society.
"We believe that real impact is achieved when strong partnerships are rooted in shared purpose,' said Neale Hill, president of Ford Motor Company, Africa.
19 vehicles
The vehicles, comprising four Ford Transits, 13 Tourneos, and two locally assembled Rangers, will be provided to the Fund for three years, with full ownership transferred as a donation at the end of the term for vehicles still required by the Fund.
They have been carefully allocated, and, where required, tailored to support the Fund's operational needs, including fieldwork, mobile services, and community outreach.
Some of the vehicles will undergo specialised modifications through Ford South Africa's newly launched Ford Pro Convertor programme, providing custom-built solutions designed to help the Fund deliver services more effectively and reach communities more easily.
The programme enables Ford-approved conversions while still preserving the original factory warranty.
Programmes
Vehicle support will be provided through various programmes, with vehicles allocated based on the project's specific focus areas and mobility requirements.
Assistance includes:
Child survival, development and thriving: Through this programme, the NMCF addresses high mortality rates for children under the age of five by delivering essential health services to vulnerable communities.
A Transit has been converted into a fully equipped mobile clinic featuring visitor seating, an examination room, a toilet, solar-powered systems, electrical infrastructure and accessibility features.
Additional support includes a Ford Ranger Double Cab and three Tourneo units to assist with outreach and transport.
The Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital receives a dedicated Tourneo for operational support.

Child safety and protection: In response to rising incidents of child abuse and violence, the programme drives proactive outreach, education and protection campaigns in schools and communities. It will be supported by three Tourneos and a Transit converted into a mobile workshop.
The workshop features retractable storage, a power supply for roadshow equipment, and infrastructure to support violence prevention initiatives on the ground.
Sustainable livelihoods programme: This programme aims to reduce poverty and improve household stability by supporting income-generating initiatives.
A Transit panel van has been converted for egg distribution, featuring shelving, non-slip surfaces, secure egg dividers, shock-absorbing padding and ventilation. Five Tourneos will also support this programme.
The Fund's core operations will be strengthened through the use of a Transit, two Tourneos and a Ford Ranger to ensure logistical flexibility, support stakeholder engagement, and facilitate coordination across programme areas.
'By enabling mobility for those doing critical work on the ground, Ford is translating purpose into progress, connecting communities with essential services and creating opportunities for a better future,' said Hill.

6 reasons to opt for the ‘entry-level' Ford Ranger XL Double Cab
Is it strange we're more excited to drive the most affordable Ford Ranger XL Double Cab than just about anything else this year? Not really, because I just realised that Ford Motor Company, or FO MO CO as it's also known, doesn't do FOMO. Get it, FOMO? You see, manufacturers always want to give media test drives in their absolute latest and greatest R1-million beast … The standard grille and headlight arrangement is basic compared to higher-spec Rangers. Image: Ray Leathern Meanwhile, perfectly excellent vehicles that the majority of motorists actually own, like the R703 000 Ford Ranger XL, go undriven. We recently had the opportunity to expand our frame of reference by driving the 'entry-level' Ford Ranger XL 2.0 SiT 4×4 Double Cab 6MT. And here are our six takeaways for buyers looking to get the most bang for their buck … At just R703 000 for the Ford Ranger XL 2.0 SiT 4×4 Double Cab 6MT, you simply cannot get more double-cab bakkie for the money. Okay, the two-wheel drive XL Double Cab is R620 000. But you're going to want that go-anywhere capability that comes with 4×4, because the XL is just such a great adventure vehicle. One of the reasons we love any test unit that's not absolutely top of the line, is you don't feel bad putting it through its paces. In our time with the Ranger XL we took it off roading and the 4×4 system didn't skip a beat. Standard-fit Continental CrossContact tyres on plain-looking 17-inch wheels are absolutely brilliant over all terrain types, too. No expensive trim pieces, no problem. The Ford Ranger XL 4×4 feels built for the tough stuff. Image: Ray Leathern Moreover, a bakkie like the Ranger XL loves to be utilised to the full. In a million-Rand-plus Platinum you may think twice about how you use it but, in the XL, we threw all manner of wet, sandy items in the rear load bay and didn't think twice. This could be your life, too. The load bay is rubberised back there, with clever tie-down rails along the side. And there's slightly more utility space due to the simpler tonneau cover. Perhaps the most enjoyable thing about our time with the Ranger XL was the do-it-yourself drivetrain. It's insane to realise how pampered we've all become with automatic gearboxes. A six-speed manual and single-turbo engine may feel positively old-school but it's also glorious to be solely responsible for dishing out all motive force. The 4×4 system is switchable on-the-fly and works seamlessly, too. Happy to report that the Ford Ranger XL's cabin is an excellent place to be. Image: Ray Leathern Most impressive from our time with the 'modest' Ford Ranger XL was the cabin quality. We assumed the Wildtraks and Platinums would be worlds apart from the base XL. However, with a 10-inch colour touchscreen and 8-inch digital colour cluster display, it's definitely in the same ballpark. Clever features like Sync with Apple CarPlay and FordPass Connect are standard on the Ranger XL. The seats are cloth, mats rubber and you still get a rear-view camera with sensors. Win, win, win. When it comes to efficiency, FO MO CO's single-turbo (SiT) 2.0-litre turbodiesel produces 125 kW and 405 Nm, which is perfectly adequate. We didn't test it but assume a zero to 100 km/h sprint time would be just less than 10 seconds. And while claimed/combined fuel economy is 7.7 l/100 km, we averaged in the 8.0 l/100 km range over the full test period. This still yielded a massive tank range of 850 km. Proudly built Ford tough in Silverton, Pretoria. Image: Ray Leathern Perhaps the only downside to the Ford Ranger XL is how plain looking it is on the outside. Remember, there's a host of very handsome special edition Raptors, Platinums, et al, on the roads. As such, you won't be turning any heads in the boggo double cab. But even here there's an upside. Because cruising around with relative anonymity also has its perks. As does banking R300 000 in savings! Ford bolsters RAM partnership with 100 new Transits
Ford South Africa has strengthened its long-standing relationship with RAM Hand-to-Hand Couriers by supplying an additional 100 new Transit vans to the company's growing fleet. The latest delivery brings RAM's number of Ford vehicles in operation to 578, underlining the courier firm's trust in the carmaker's commercial vehicle offering. Since the partnership began in 2004, RAM has taken delivery of more than 1,600 Ford vehicles. The fleet handles demanding daily operations, often covering distances of up to 500km. One RAM Ford Ranger — a 2019 2.0 SiT XLT 4x4 — has passed the 500,000km mark. A further 51 vehicles in the fleet are more than a decade old and have each exceeded 300,000km. RAM deploys its Transits mainly in urban areas, while Rangers are tasked with reaching more remote or challenging destinations. This vehicle mix allows the company to optimise its delivery routes in varying terrain. 'The strength of our relationship with RAM is built on trust in our products, in our after-sales support and in our ability to deliver consistent performance,' said Ryan Searle, director of sales operations at Ford South Africa. 'We're proud to be the backbone of businesses such as RAM, who rely on the proven reliability and low cost of ownership our vehicles offer in high-demand environments. The Transit is designed to work hard while making life easier for the people who drive it every day.'
