Some Great News For ‘Slow Horses' Fans As Apple Drops A Major Update
Apple has given us many genuinely great shows that start with the letter 'S', from Severance to Shrinking to Silo and many more, but few bang out new seasons quite like Slow Horses.
Indeed, few shows out there have been renewed so far into the future, either. With Season 5 just around the corner, we now have three more seasons to look forward to, and I'd be shocked if it wasn't actually four. Apple just announced that the spy thriller, based on the books by Mick Herron, has been renewed for a seventh season.
The award-winning series (which you should watch ASAP if you haven't already) stars Gary Oldman as the malodorous but brilliant Jackson Lamb, the rundown chief of Slough House where British spies are sent when they crash out at MI5. This band of misfits is colloquially known as the 'slow horses' and includes River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung), Louisa Guy (Rosalind Eleazar), Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves) and more (including several dead agents at this point in the story). Other cast members include Jonathan Pryce as David Cartwright and Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner.
The reason I say I'd be shocked if we didn't have four more seasons of the espionage series to look forward to is the fact that the series creators film two seasons back-to-back. Season 6 has already wrapped filming ahead of Season 5's release. If the trend continues, this would mean that Season 8 will almost certainly be done filming by the time Season 6 lands on Apple TV+.
Season 5 of the Will Smith-created series is based on Herron's novel, London Rules, the sequel to Spook Street which Season 4 was based on. The Season 5 logline reads: 'In season five of 'Slow Horses,' everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend. When a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, the London Rules — cover your back — always apply.' Saul Metzstein returns as director.
Season 7 of the series is based on the book Bad Actors. According to the press release, 'In season seven, Lamb and his Slow Horses are on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of British Government before they can bring down the state.'

So What's This Mysterious Apple TV+ Drama from the ‘Breaking Bad' Creator?
Vince Gilligan is breaking away from Breaking Bad. Streaming this November on Apple TV+ is Pluribus, the next—and suddenly highly anticipated—original series by the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator. It's scheduled to hit the streamer November 7. Pluribus will star Emmy-nominated actress Rhea Seehorn, marking a Better Call Saul reunion of sorts with Gilligan. The show's official basic plot synopsis reads simply, "The most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness." So yes, Pluribus is currently shrouded in mystery, save for a few breadcrumbs that establish a deeply ominous yet Gilligan-esque tone. (Also: It might be science fiction?) At the very least, we know that it's going to be far different from the grounded crime epics we've been used to from Gilligan for nearly 15 years. But just what the heck is Pluribus actually about? Settle in as we try to make sense of a show that almost defies description. What Is Pluribus Actually About? It's safe to assume Seehorn will play a woman named Carol, who is named in one of the show's mysterious 30-second teasers released July 28. The teaser includes a working phone number, 202-808-3981, which plays a recorded message of an unknown woman talking to "Carol." While plot details are currently vague, Pluribus is poised to be a psychological thriller of some kind. Tonally, it feels reminiscent of another major Apple TV+ hit, Severance, a sci-fi thriller that turns the corporate workplace into a labyrinth of lies and unanswered questions. Another teaser for Pluribus establishes a similarly sinister and bitterly sarcastic vibe. In a teaser released July 25, a woman stands alone in what seems to be a government building after-hours; note the American flag and what looks like the Maryland state flag in the far-left side of the frame. The woman stands in front of a front desk, licking doughnuts and putting them back. (Nasty!) As she does this, the camera moves to a close-up of a handwritten sign that reads, "Help yourself." You can find evidence that the show is taking place in Maryland by noting the brand of doughnuts. They're from Sandy Pony Doughnuts, a real Maryland-based doughnut shop with locations in Annapolis, Chincoteague, and Bethany Beach. On July 26, Sandy Pony confirmed its involvement with the show with a post on Instagram that shows its staff doing a pop-up at San Diego Comic-Con with Pluribus branding. And if the title Pluribus sounds familiar, it's Latin for "many." "E pluribus unum" ("From many, one") is the unofficial U.S. motto, printed on the Great Seal of the United States. If you check your pockets, you'll find the motto printed on all U.S. dollars, dimes, and quarters. How Different Is Pluribus from Breaking Bad? If we had to guess, quite a bit. In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Seehorn commented on Pluribus as "a very challenging show." "[Vince Gilligan is] vacillating between tones and between genres like he and Peter Gould did on Better Call Saul, but it's even more pronounced now," Seehorn told The Hollywood Reporter. "It is a very challenging role and a very challenging show in the best way. It's everything that an actor would want." Gilligan himself recently alluded to telling new stories that don't feature the same shade of antihero that shows like Breaking Bad popularized in the early 2010s. During his acceptance speech for an award by the Writers Guild of America back in February, Gilligan invited his fellow writers to "write more good guys." "For decades we made the villains too hot [and] viewers everywhere, all around the world, pay attention. They say, 'Here's this badass, I want to be that cool.' When that happens, fictional bad guys stop being the precautionary tales they were intended to be. God help us, they've become aspirational." Gilligan is nodding to the phenomenon that Breaking Bad fans saw Bryan Cranston's Walter White as a badass, not as a scumbag who jeopardized his family and their well-being even after he made enough money to set them up for life. While Rhea Seehorn's Carol (assuming she's Carol) might not be a full-fledged hero like Superman, she probably won't be Walter White or Saul Goodman either. But we'll only know for sure who she is when Pluribus finally hits our streaming queues. Salford Lads and Girls Club given incredible news months after facing closure
Salford Lads and Girls Club has been awarded a grant of £438,000 - nine months after it faced closure. The money will be used for essential repairs to the Grade II-listed building in Ordsall. The cash is the biggest grant the 122-year-old institution has ever received and will ensure its future for generations to come. It was saved at the end of last year following a Manchester Evening News fundraising campaign. In just six weeks, £273,000 was raised. Donations included £100,000 from Salford council; £50,000 from Morrissey; and £30,000 from the gas company Cadent. The Heritage at Risk Capital Fund - led by the public body and funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport - rescues listed buildings and sites facing dereliction or demolition. Projects range from Victorian market halls to medieval churches Leslie Holmes, projects manager at Salford Lads and Girls Club for 23 years, said: "Getting recognition from people like Historic England is amazing. A lot of brick work on one side of the building needs repairing. We have had a lot of erosion and damage by strong winds. "There are quite a few bricks that need replacing. On the top of the building we have copings which are showing their age and need rebedding. Whenever there is a big storm we get water in the building. We are going to put an extra hopper on each of the downspouts which carry rainwater from the gutters. "After 23 years working to save the future of this remarkable building, this is by far the largest grant we have ever been awarded. In 2003 Salford Lads and Girls Club was listed as the rarest surviving example of a pre-First World Ward working lads clubs still in use. "This award from Historic England is another step in securing the club for future generations of local families and for the thousands of music fans from across the world who walk down Coronation Street to stand in front of the famous sign and who now come inside to share our special story." Laura Slingsby, chief executive officer at the club, said: "This support from Historic England is incredibly important for us. It's a place that families have walked through for generations. This investment will allow us to keep it standing strong for another 100 years. "We're not just preserving bricks and mortar, we're keeping alive a space that inspires pride, tells Salford's story of resilience, and provides our local community and young people with access to heritage and opportunities they wouldn't find elsewhere. It's a game-changer for the building, our club, and the entire community." Nick Abbot, a partner in the Simon Fenton Partnership, appointed as Quantity Surveyors for the restoration, attended the club as a youngster. He said: "Salford Lads and Girls Club isn't just bricks and mortar - it's a lifeline, a memory-maker, and a symbol of pride for so many in the community, including me. To play a part in preserving it for the future is incredibly special." In 1985, the club was used as the setting for an iconic image of Manchester band The Smiths. The picture, taken by Stephen Wright, has brought the club global recognition and a source of funding from fans of the group. To this day, fans from all over the world make a pilgrimage to the venue. It offers sport and other activities six days a week to more than 200 young people in one of the most deprived areas of the country. A unique archive contains the records of over 22,500 members since its opening in 1903 displayed on a remarkable five metre Wall of Names. In the north west, projects receiving grants as well as Salford Lads and Girls Club include the restoration of the upper seating areas at Morecambe Winter Gardens; and the conservation of the Grade II-listed pump house at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port. The fund operates alongside Historic England's existing Heritage at Risk programme, targeting sites requiring immediate action to prevent further deterioration. Louise Brennan, director of regions at Historic England said: "Thanks to the extra funding from the Heritage at Risk Capital Fund, we are able to breathe new life into neglected historic buildings in the north west that we haven't been able to help through our existing grant schemes. "This initiative will not only boost economic growth but also create amazing opportunities for people in some of the region's most disadvantaged areas. We're thrilled to support projects that harness the power of heritage to make a real difference where it's needed most."

The film released on July 2 and remained among the top most-viewed films worldwide on Prime Video for four weeks. Lead actors John Cena and Priyanka Chopra Jonas expressed their gratitude towards the audience soon after the viewership announcement on social media. According to Flixpatrol, Heads of State was among the top ten most-viewed films worldwide for a month on Amazon Prime Video. Cena plays the US president, and Elba is the prime minister of the UK while Chopra is an MI6 agent in the film. The film is produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Heads of State also features Stephen Root, Paddy Considine, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid and Sarah Niles. Their close ally in the mission is the brilliant MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Chopra). The president and the prime minister have a lot going on - the latter doesn't appreciate the fact that the former was elected as the head of his country because he was a huge Hollywood star. As heads of two countries majorly deciding the course of most global actions, they must be seen as allies. Despite their differences, they must appear to agree on important ideologies and steps. Both the actors offer a charming camaraderie in the process. They are playful and cheerful, yet authoritative. Chopra adds an interesting twist to the equation. She brings the agility and expertise of a secret agent while keeping it curtly passionate with her ex. The film is a fun-filled action ride which offers adrenaline-rush in the action sequences and lighthearted comedy in others. It also pushes political commentary with subtlety, making it possible for the audience to thoroughly enjoy the movie even if they are not aware of the politics. Earlier in July, Heads of State director Naishuller hinted at the possibility of having a sequel. In an interview with Screenrant, Naishuller said creating more of 'Jack and Marty' would be fun, if people enjoy the movie, and Amazon "feels like it makes sense to do a second one". The 2024 Christmas action comedy Red One ranks on top of the list of most-watched films worldwide on Prime Video ever. The film features Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans in lead roles and is directed by Jake Kasdan. Ben Affleck-starrer The Accountant 2 is the second most-watched Amazon MGM movie on the platform, with 80 million global views. It was directed by Gavin O'Connor.
