Committee plans on shifting proposed RRTS station at Cyber Hub
The committee has asked the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to submit a detailed plan and proposed locations of its stations at Cyber Hub and along the entire Gurugram route, said officials aware of the matter.
The RRTS project by NCRTC is expected to start construction by August 2026 and it will see commissioning by 2031, as per the revised detailed project report (DPR) submitted to the state government. The Gurugram Metro project is expected to see construction start in next few months, and it is expected be completed by 2030, said officials.
The meeting was chaired by AK Singh, additional chief secretary, town and country planning department along with Dr Chander Shekhar Khare, chief administrator, HSVP, also CEO of GMRL, Vikas Gupta, commissioner and secretary, urban local bodies department, Shyamal Misra, CEO, GMDA, KP Gupta, chief project manager, NCRTC and senior officials from GMRL, HSIIDC, GMDA and other government departments.
A senior government official, present in the meeting said that to freeze the alignment of Gurugram Metro and terminating station at Cyber Hub, NCRTC has been asked to share the final location its RRTS stations and also explore the possibility of shifting the station towards Sirhaul border, where land owned by a central government entity was available and could be utilised for the Metro station. 'The issue of setting up RRTS station and the Metro station was discussed in detail,' he said.
Meanwhile, a senior GMRL official said that NCRTC has also been asked to provide the final alignment of RRTS route in Gurugram so that any similar issue can be resolved in advance. 'The GMRL alignment is currently on hold in the final stretch between Shankar Chowk and Cyber City. The alignment was tentatively planned near the existing Rapid Metro Cyber City station but the HSIIDC has not agreed to transfer land for RRTS station and this has delayed the freezing of the terminating station of Gurugram metro,' said the official.
The GMRL official further said that the final decision on the location and design of the GMRL station will be taken only after a firm decision is made on the location of the NCRTC station, as seamless multimodal integration between the three transit systems: GMRL, Rapid Metro, and NCRTC is essential for commuter convenience and optimal infrastructure utilisation.
As per the initial planning, the RRTS station was proposed to be underground, while the GMRL station was to be elevated. Connectivity was proposed between the RRTS station and the GMRL station via an underpass below NH-48 (Delhi-Jaipur Highway), and between the GMRL concourse level and the existing Rapid Metro station through a direct link, to ensure smooth and convenient interchange for commuters.

ECR to propose 3rd and 4th tracks on high-density routes
Patna: East Central Railway (ECR) has decided to submit a detailed project report (DPR) to the Railway Board within the next couple of days for the construction of third and fourth railway lines along several high-density corridors within its jurisdiction. The proposed expansion will cover 450km and include routes such as Chhapra Gramin-Sonepur-Hajipur-Shahpur Patori-Bachwara, Barauni-Katihar and Hajipur-Muzaffarpur-Samastipur-Bachwara. According to ECR's chief public relations officer (CPRO), Saraswati Chandra, general manager Chhatrasal Singh and other senior railway officials held a detailed discussion on the project at ECR's headquarters in Hajipur on Thursday. The DPR, estimated to cost around Rs 8,600 crore, is expected to boost connectivity, ease congestion and upgrade rail infrastructure in one of the country's busiest regions. The expansion will be executed in two phases. Phase I will focus on constructing third and fourth lines along the Chhapra Gramin-Sonepur-Shahpur Patori-Bachwara and Barauni-Katihar routes, covering 311km. The plan also features dedicated rail bridges over the Kosi river at Kursela and the Gandak river at Hajipur, she added. Highlighting the strategic importance of these corridors, the CPRO said the Chhapra Gramin–Sonepur–Hajipur–Shahpur Patori–Bachwara and Barauni–Katihar routes are essential for both passenger and freight services. "These lines are crucial for the transport of commodities such as coal, cement and agricultural produce. The project will not only help decongest the existing network but also increase capacity to manage rising traffic volumes in future," she said. The CPRO said construction work on the first phase would begin after the Railway Board approves the DPR.

Chandigarh metro DPR yet to be filed, Centre tells Lok Sabha
The much-delayed Chandigarh Metro project has once again come under parliamentary scrutiny, with the Union government informing the Lok Sabha that the detailed project report (DPR) is yet to be submitted by the Chandigarh Administration. MP Manish Tewari questioned the government regarding the metro project in Chandigarh. Responding to a series of questions raised by Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari during the ongoing session, the ministry of housing and urban affairs revealed that the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) — set up for overseeing the metro project — has convened only three meetings in the past 27 months. Tewari sought updates on the number of UMTA meetings held since its formation, the review status of the latest feasibility study conducted by RITES, and whether any joint proposal had been submitted by Punjab, Haryana and the Chandigarh Administration. He also inquired about the timeline for DPR completion and the cost-sharing formula among stakeholders. In its written response, the ministry stated that the UMTA was constituted by the Chandigarh Administration on April 28, 2023. Since then, meetings were held on July 18, 2023, December 13, 2023, and September 2, 2024. The Centre reiterated that urban transport planning falls primarily under the purview of state governments and union territories, with the Centre offering guidance through policy frameworks such as the National Urban Transport Policy (2006), the Metro Rail Policy (2017), and the Transit-Oriented Development Policy (2017). Financial assistance, it added, is extended only upon the receipt of concrete proposals. Tokhan Sahu, minister of state for housing and urban affairs, informed the House that the detailed project report (DPR) for the Chandigarh Metro has not yet been submitted to the central government. Moreover, no details were provided regarding the estimated cost of the project or any financial collaboration model among the stakeholders. At the same time, the tricity's growing traffic woes remain unresolved. In June this year the project received a fresh green signal from Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) in its latest report, where it indicated a positive economic viability. In February this year, however, RITES was told to re-examine its metro ridership estimate of 11.3 lakh passengers per year in a meeting that the then Haryana transport additional chief secretary Ashok Khemka chaired. In April, the Union ministry had also stated in Parliament that no DPR had been received. ₹25,000–30,000 crore price tag likely The cost is likely to decide the fate of the project. Estimates suggest the cost could range between ₹25,000 crore and ₹30,000 crore, depending on the ratio of underground to elevated sections. Phase 1 of the project is expected to be completed by 2032 with construction starting in 2027, provided all approvals are secured. Under this phase, a stretch of 85.65 km has been planned, comprising both overhead and underground routes, with 16.5 km of underground route falling in the heritage sectors.
