Spotify to raise Premium subscription price in multiple regions from September: New pricing details
The streaming company confirmed that subscribers would receive email notifications detailing the change over the coming month. The move is part of Spotify's broader strategy to strengthen its profit margins.
This follows previous price adjustments and a series of cost-cutting measures that have contributed to the company's first annual profit in 2024. Despite a rise in both monthly active users and paying subscribers during the second quarter, Spotify reported a quarterly loss attributed to higher taxes tied to employee compensation. The tax impact has also led to a more cautious profit outlook for the third quarter.
In a bid to diversify its offering and attract more users, Spotify has been increasing its video content through its Partner Program. The initiative provides podcast creators with monetisation tools and has seen a growing number of contributors, significantly boosting the platform's video catalogue.
Additionally, the firm is beginning to benefit from regulatory changes in the United States. Apple has approved Spotify's app update that includes subscription pricing and external payment links, following a court ruling that blocked Apple from charging commission on off-app purchases. Spotify's CEO Daniel Ek noted that this development has resulted in a 'very positive uptick' in the US market. He added that similar regulatory shifts in Europe and the UK could further benefit Spotify and other developers.
Spotify revealed that its platform now features a total of seven million podcasts, including more than 430,000 video podcast titles. In addition, it offers over 350,000 audiobooks available for one-time purchase. As of June 2025, the company employed 7,309 full-time staff across the globe.

After ChatGPT, GPT-5 is coming to your iPhones next: Release date, features and more
OpenAI launched its GPT-5 update on Thursday with the promise of huge improvements over the existing GPT and reasoning models. The new model has already replaced GPT-4o as the default model on ChatGPT and it is all set to be coming to iPhones, iPads and other Apple devices with the onset of Apple's upcoming iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, as per a 9to5Mac report. Notably, Apple already uses ChatGPT in its Siri voice assistant to run the more complex requests and when answering with detailed information. Just like the ChatGPT app, GPT-4o had been the standard model that Siri directed user requests to but with GPT-5 taking over the AI chatbot, all such requests would soon go through the new model. If the report is to be believed, GPT-5 could be rolling out to Apple devices as early as next month. This seems likely given that Apple will also be launching its iPhone 17 series in early September that is usually followed with the rollout of new iOS updates. GPT-5 will continue to complete the tasks which its predecessor did in Apple Intelligence. Here's a list of where iPhone users will be able to access GPT-5 on their device. 1) Ansering questions on Siri: As earlier stated, Siri does direct more complex queries to ChatGPT this also includes requests related to photos and documents. iPhone users will be able to use GPT-5 to proofread, rewrite or summarize text through a number of Apple and Third party apps this includes Notes, Messages, mail and Pages apps. Apple users will now be able to use GPT-5 on Visual intelligence to leverage their phone's camera in order to gather information about their surroundings. Compared to previous models, OpenAI says GPT-5 comes with a marked improvement in areas like coding, writing, reasoning, accuracy, health realted questions and more. The new model is also said to have fewer hallucinations (making stuff) while being less sycophantic (being too agreeable with the user). GPT-5 also includes an efficient model and a GPT-5 Thinking model, and unlike the past where users had to choose which model to select based on their request, ChatGPT directly taps into the required model using a real-time router. While it's not clear how this mechanism would work on Apple devices yet, it is likely that GPT-5's reasoning abilities could also be used in Apple Intelligence.
