Coronation Street hostage horror as lives are on the line
There's terror for the residents of Coronation Street in upcoming episodes when killer Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) breaks out of prison – and causes havoc at the school and factory.
Mick, who is in prison following his murder of PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), is upset by news from his family. With Lou (Farrel Hegarty) in serious trouble, there's a risk that the family will fall apart. Mick knows he's got to do something and desperately enlists the help of his son, Brody (Ryan Mulvey).
He wants Brody to round up his sisters and the plan is that Mick will escape from prison and join them and the whole family will go on the run. Brody, who's recently found out that Mick isn't his biological father, is still keen to impress the man who raised him and he agrees to the plan.
Brody goes off to pick up the girls, who are staying with Sally (Sally Dynevor) and Tim (Joe Duttine), only to find that Joanie (Savanna Pennington) has gone to Weatherfield High for a taster day.
She's not having a great time as some of the other kids are having a go at her because of her infamous dad. She gets upset and the school staff call Sally and get her to come and pick her up.
Meanwhile Lou is being questioned by the police after Mick has broken out of prison. She denies all knowledge.
Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) is at the school for an interview, and he and Mrs Crawshaw (Carla Mendonça) are shocked when they're suddenly confronted by Mick, demanding to see his daughter. Mrs Crawshaw tells him that Joanie isn't there, and was picked up by Sally earlier.
Frustrated and angry, Mick locks the pair in the office.

Meanwhile, the kids are terrified by the presence of Mick, whose behaviour seems out of control.
They try to hide as best they can. Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) is shocked later to hear from Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) that his son, Sam (Jude Riordan), was left on his own in a corridor after his cousin Lily Platt (Brooke Malonie) refused to let him hide in the classroom where she was taking refuge.
There's short-lived relief as Mick heads off towards Coronation Street, with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) in hot pursuit. More Trending
But with Mick ever more desperate to find his children and with an unaware Sally showing Joanie around the factory, the violence is far from over – and lives will be left in the balance.
Tim notices him marching into the building, and as a menacing heartbeat sound effect rings out, Mick watches Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) from afar.
She's terrified when he grabs her phone and smashes it on the floor, before grabbing her by the neck. Tim begs him to stop, just as Sally and Joanie reenter the factory.

Elden Ring Nightreign and Silent Hill 2 get huge discounts on Amazon
Metro journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission – learn more FromSoftware's Elden Ring spin-off has been discounted barely a month after launch, as the Amazon sales somehow get better after Prime Day. Amazon Prime Day came to an end last Friday, but that hasn't stopped a bunch of new deals on games popping up on the website almost straight away. In fact, many Amazon Prime Day deals are still up now, including discounts on Split Fiction, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Tekken 8, and others. While it's unclear exactly why, you might want to jump on them sooner rather than later, in case someone's fallen asleep at the deal wheel. Some new discounts have popped up too, with one of the standouts being Elden Ring Nightreign. The co-op multiplayer spin-off has been a big hit sales wise since it came out at the end of May, and it's not full price anyway, so these discounts are surprising. On Amazon, Elden Ring Nightreign is 28% off on PlayStation 5 at £28.93, down from £39.99. Similarly, it's 20% off on Xbox Series X/S at £31.95. However, the best discounts are on the special editions. The Seekers Edition, which includes a SteelBook, digital artbook, soundtrack, and access to upcoming DLC, is 35% off at £35.95 on PlayStation 5. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Meanwhile, the Collector's Edition, which throws in a statue of Wylder, eight Nightfarers cards, and a physical artbook, is £80 off at £99.99. More Trending There are other notable discounts too, with The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered 44% off at £25, while Silent Hill 2 is down to £34.99. You can check out all these deals below. According to SteamDB, Elden Ring Nightreign's popularity has remained fairly steady since it launched on May 30, 2025, although it is naturally declining. After it racked up a peak player count of 313,593 players at launch, its 24-hour peak at the time of writing is 77,172. It is currently 22nd in the list of Steam's most played games though, just behind Marvel Rivals and Dead By Daylight. While the game has been a success so far, it's biggest test will be whether it can maintain these numbers in the months to come. FromSoftware has already promised a two-player mode and upcoming DLC, although a release date for those is yet to be announced. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. Rachel Riley: 'I'd rather swim with great white sharks than do Strictly again'
For Rachel Riley, after competing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013, there are few things more daunting than being thrown around the floor by her now-husband, Pasha Kovalev, to the mercy of millions of viewers. Her courage is being put to the test, however, in ITV's new series Shark! Celebrity Infested Water – an unexpected gear change in reality TV. As it says on the tin, stars are chucked into the water with sharks of increasing size, eventually leading to the moment where they'll pluck up the bravery to come nose to nose with one of the world's most dangerous apex predators, a Tiger shark, without a cage. Speaking to Metro ahead of tonight's first episode, I can confirm Rachel remains fully-limbed and unscathed. She insists that confronting the animal notorious for striking more fear into humans than anything else is water off a duck's back after being scrutinised by Craig Revel Horwood on national television. 'If you asked me tomorrow to go swimming with great whites, I'd be there,' she says. 'If you asked me to do Strictly again, no way. 'The thing about Strictly is that the music comes on and we panic, whereas with the sharks you can take your time to get down. Rationally, you shouldn't be more scared of something that can eat you than dancing on telly. But we're not always rational, are we?' Tapping into the rationality of shark-wary viewers is the crux of Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters. The premise hasn't come out of nowhere, it's marking the 50th anniversary of Jaws – Stephen Spielberg's horror that's caused me to have many sudden panics in a swimming pool, let alone the sea. The truth is, sharks are relatively harmless. If you're confident enough to get in a car, you should be able to gleefully paddle in the sea when the road is by far more likely to kill you. Rachel is joined by a star-studded cast that includes Sir Lenny Henry, comedian Ross Noble, and Amandaland's Lucy Punch. They're mentored by leading shark experts, including Paul de Gelder – a former marine whose arm and leg were ripped off by a bull shark in 2009 but now devotes his life to protecting the species that almost killed him. He welcomes the cast onto the boat, proudly shows off his prosthetic limbs and tells the celebs they'll be starting their journey in the water with bull sharks. 'I was expecting swimming pools with starfish to start with,' admits Rachel. 'Pasha and I've been to the Galapagos before, and we saw a bright orange thing in the water, thinking someone had dropped a life jacket, but it was actually a sea lion bitten in half trying to get out of the water. 'Its flesh was so fluorescent it looked orange, and then this bull shark came and finished it off.' Being witness to a shark attack first-hand did nothing to deter Rachel from agreeing to take part, though – far from it. Of all the stars, the Countdown presenter is easily the most excited to be there – jealous, even, of her teammates whenever she was on land. 'I just had constant shark envy,' she says. 'Every time someone was in the water and we were waiting to go and there was a sighting of something, I was like, 'I want to be in the water!' 'There was one second where I even said it out loud, 'if Pasha could see me now, he'd be screaming at me to get out. I'm pushing my luck now.'' In the very first free swim of the process, the group paddles with eight-foot lemon sharks. Noble, among the calmest members of the pack, is actually bitten. As I mention this, Rachel laughs: 'It was funny at the time. We thought it was just a camera bump, and then you look at the footage, and no, it really was a bite.' 'I mean, he survived,' she smiles nonchalantly. And she's right, the shark's teeth barely puncture his wetsuit. Still, though, it's a reminder that one wrong move with a bigger animal and the damage could be far more serious – even deadly. Preparing to fly out to the Bahamas, Rachel even wrote a will. 'As soon as you have babies, you're supposed to have a will, so this was the proper impetus. Right at the start of this process, they told us we were building up to dive with Tiger sharks, which have been found with whole suits of armour in their stomach and that there had been a fatality in that area from Tiger sharks in the last year. So even though you've got all the precautions, they're still wild sharks.' The celebrity's levels of trepidation to be in the water with sharks varies. On one end of the spectrum, there's Rachel, who has no reservations to dive straight in, and on the other, you have Call The Midwife's Helen George, who hasn't even put her head under water in over 20 years out of sheer fear. Initially, it appears Helen is not cut out for free-swimming with sharks or even being near the water at all. Without giving too much away, her unshakable terror is the heart of the series, watching a woman discover she's much more capable than she gives herself credit for. It's a surprisingly moving watch. More Trending 'What's lovely about the show is we were a team and she's the strongest person I know,' says Rachel. 'She's had the biggest achievement out of all of us so we're all really proud of her, to have the strength of character and strength of mind to not only overcome getting your face in the water, but to go out in the open ocean, take your mask off underwater, she did so much.' Months after filming, Rachel is still clearly giddy with excitement. Only time will tell if she managed to come up and close to a Tiger shark, but the experience has definitely changed her. 'I've got the bug,' she says. I want to see orcas and manta rays next. I've always wanted to see manta rays, it's like seeing aliens when you're going underwater. I just definitely want to do more diving.' View More » Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters airs tonight at 9pm on ITV. Got a story? The founder of Alamo Drafthouse is debuting a swanky new movie theater in Chelsea
How to get Tim League, the founder of the famously strict Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chains, to allow phones and chatter during a screening? Metro Private Cinema, his upcoming venture in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, is the unique, if pricey, solution. Opening sometime this summer (late August or early September is the current target), the 20-screen complex will allow cinephiles to rent plush screening rooms for groups of four to 20 people. Each four-hour booking includes a pre-movie dinner and your pick of flick. Recent releases are prioritized, with a rotating selection of classics (all-timers like Jaws and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and off-beat ones, like Donnie Darko and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, are first on the slate) available. Want to screen an even deeper cut? Metro will find it for you, for an extra fee. Speaking of fees, experiences range from $200, for the smallest room, to $1,000 for the 20-count. Meals are $100 per person with alcoholic drinks upping the bill an extra $50 or more. But League maintains this is a way to eventize moviegoing at a time when the practice is in peril of disappearing, and when social media is filled with complaints about bad behavior, service and quality at most multiplexes. On par with Alamo's creative upscale cuisine, menus will be seasonal, and some films will get their unique culinary adventures. (Look out for special Paddington 2 and Goodfellas menus, and Les Blank's 1980 documentary, Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers, will have a particularly pungent pairing.) And, from the looks of the theater's website, rooms will have vibe-setting features like vinyl record players and a variety of seating options, for those who prefer a spine-correcting stool over a comfy couch. Stationed near many of New York's most accessible subway lines, this first iteration will serve as a pilot for future Metro Private Cinemas.
