Coolie vs War 2 advance booking: The eve of this Independence Day will see the clash of two action thrillers — Lokesh Kanagaraj's Tamil crime drama Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, and Ayan Mukerji's Bollywood spy thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and Jr NTR. As of four days before the release, the advance booking of Coolie is far higher than that of War 2.
The advance sales of Coolie in India stand at Rs 10.7 crore. This includes Rs 10 crore in the native Tamil language, around Rs 4 lakh, Rs 1.5 lakh, and Rs 40,000 in the dubbed Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada versions, respectively. Combined with the block bookings of around Rs 6 crore, the total advance booking of Coolie in India currently stands at Rs 16.15 crore.
As per trade tracker Sacnilk, the advance sales of War 2 isn't even a patch on that of Coolie. Its advance booking figure of Rs 30.28 lakh includes Rs 28 lakh in the native Hindi version, along with Rs 1.3 lakh and Rs 70,000 in the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions, respectively. It's also added Rs 60,000 in the IMAX 2D Hindi version. Combined with the block booking, the current advance sales figure of War 2 in India stands at Rs 1.22 crore.
The advance booking figure of War 2 pales not only in comparison to that of Coolie, but also that of previous YRF Spy Universe installments like Siddharth Anand's War (2019) and Pathaan (2023), and Manish Sharma's Tiger 3 (2023). It's even lower than Yash Raj Films' previous blockbuster outing, Mohit Suri's romantic drama Saiyaara.
Its Telugu chunk of Rs 70,000 is surprisingly low, given War 2 stars Telugu superstar Jr NTR as the chief antagonist. On the other hand, the Hindi chunk of Coolie at Rs 4 lakh is quite impressive, given it's even higher than the Telugu share. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan makes a cameo appearance in the Rajinikanth-starrer which is likely to hint at his future standalone spin-off with Lokesh Kanagaraj, which is expected to go on floors next year.
Coolie is backed by production house Sun Pictures. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial, which marks Rajinikanth's 171st film, also stars Nagarjuna and Shruti Haasan. It also coincides with Rajinikanth's 50 years in the film industry. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music for the movie.

Meanwhile, War 2 is the sequel to the blockbuster War, which starred Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, Ashutosh Rana, and Vaani Kapoor. Roshan and Rana reprise their roles of a superspy and his boss in the sequel, whereas Kiara Advani joins the cast as the former's love interest. Shah Rukh Khan is also expected to pop up for a cameo, in the capacity of Pathaan. Backed by Aditya Chopra, War 2 marks Ayan Mukerji's maiden directorial stint outside of Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

War 2 worldwide box office collection day 2: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR film beats Kesari 2, Jaat lifetime; crosses ₹150 cr

War 2 worldwide box office collection: After a subpar opening day, Ayan Mukerji's War 2 has roared back at the box office, gaining momentum on the back of an impressive jump in the Hindi version. Even as the Telugu version saw an expected dip after a big opening, the Hindi version more than made up for that loss. A good showing overseas means that War 2 was able to cross ₹150 crore worldwide in two days, raising hopes of a decent lifetime run for the spy thriller. War 2 worldwide box office collection day 2: Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan headline the spy thriller. War 2 worldwide box office report War 2 is part of the YRF Spy Universe, and a direct sequel to Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's 2019 hit War. Hrithik reprised his role in War 2, with Jr NTR stepping in to make the film truly pan-India. War 2 earned ₹108 crore net in India in its first two days, with the gross collection close to ₹130 crore. Trade estimates say that the film has grossed over $4 million (in excess of ₹35 crore) in the overseas markets in two days, with the final numbers potentially higher. This puts War 2's two-day global haul at close to ₹165 crore, which enables it to enter the top 10 highest-grossing Hindi films of the year in just two days. On Friday, War 2 overtook the lifetime collections of Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2 ( ₹144 crore) and Sunny Deol's Jaat ( ₹119 crore). Over the weekend, the film should easily climb a few more spots in the list, and potentially enter the top 3, behind only Chhaava and Saiyaara. The road ahead for War 2 and YRF Spy Universe War 2 has earned ₹73 crore in Hindi net in India so far, with day 2 seeing a 50% jump in Hindi collections, due to the Independence Day holiday. If War 2 can sustain this momentum both at home and overseas, it should cross ₹400 crore globally before the end of its first week. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 also stars Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana in key roles. The film's post-credits scene introduces Bobby Deol, who sets up the franchise's next chapter - Alpha. The film stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, and will release in December this year.
