Poll Body Sends Reminder To Tejashwi Yadav Amid Dual EPIC Card Row
The Election Commission has issued a reminder notice to Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, urging him to respond by August 8 regarding the alleged dual EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) matter.
The notice, dated August 6, follows up on an earlier request made after Tejashwi displayed a voter ID card during a press conference held on August 2, 2025.
During the investigation, it appeared that Tejashwi Yadav has two EPIC numbers, one displayed by Tejashwi Yadav and the other claimed by the Election Commission.
In the letter, the Election Commission stated: 'You (Tejashwi Yadav) were requested to provide the details of the mentioned EPIC card along with the original copy of the card mentioned in the press conference... but till now the desired documents have not been provided by your level.'
The Commission has asked for the submission of both the card details and the original copy to facilitate a thorough investigation.
Tejashwi Yadav, on his part, stated earlier on Tuesday that he would respond to the Commission's notice, but also demanded that the EC respond to the irregularities raised during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
Meanwhile, the RJD has intensified its criticism of the Election Commission's handling of the voter list revision.
RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan raised concerns over the lack of transparency in the deletion of nearly 65 lakh names from the electoral rolls, as per the draft published on August 1.
Gagan questioned why the category-wise breakup of the deletions — such as dead, displaced, duplicate, or unverified voters — has not been made available, despite repeated requests.
'The partial list being shared with political parties does not mention the reasons for deletion,' he said.
He also referred to the memorandum submitted by the INDIA bloc to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar on August 1, as well as a formal letter written by RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal on August 5 (letter no. 170-15.8.25), reiterating the demand for transparency.
The RJD further demanded details on how many voters in the draft list have submitted documents to retain their names and asked that the EC's daily bulletins reflect such data.
Gagan warned that, apart from the 65 lakh already deleted, another 1.5 to 2 crore names may be at risk of deletion if documentation is not submitted in time.
The ongoing EPIC card row and voter list revision controversy come at a politically sensitive time in Bihar, with the state assembly elections expected in the coming months.

Amidst the noisy scene, the House passed the Merchant Shipping Bill 2024 with amendments moved by Port, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbanada Sonowal. As the ruckus continued, the Presiding Officer adjourned the House for the day.

Bihar SIR: SC seeks EC reply on deletion of 65 lakh voters
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought the reply of the Election Commission of India (ECI) over a plea which alleged that the poll body had not shared the list of names of those who were removed from the Bihar voters' list after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted in the state. A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan, and N K Singh issued the notice on the application filed by NGO ADR. Seeking an urgent hearing, Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for ADR, said, 'We have filed an IA…the draft roll they have published says 65 lakh voters' names have been omitted… They have not given a list of those names…they have said people are dead, have migrated… They should disclose who the 65 lakhs are, who are dead, who have migrated…'. Bhushan said the names have been included in the list without the recommendations of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs). 'BLOs when forwarding the forms have said this person is not recommended by BLO…Whether BLOs have recommended or not recommended… this information will be very important,' Bhushan added. Justice Kant said, according to ECI's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), every representative of political parties would be provided with the list at the block level. Bhushan, however, claimed that this was not done. 'They have not conveyed. In case they have given to some political party, reasons are not given,' he said. Justice Kant said it was only a draft preliminary list, and reasons may be given when the final list is released. The counsel appearing for the Election Commission said the poll body was obligated to make the draft roll public. He said, 'We can show that we have shared the list with the political party representatives.' The bench asked ECI to state all it had to say in its reply. 'If you have supplied, please give a list of political parties to whom you have supplied, so that Mr Bhushan's client can collect information from those authorised representatives,' said Justice Kant, giving the Commission time till Saturday. Justice Kant added that the court will ensure that every voter who is likely to be affected gets the requisite information.

In a bizarre trend ahead of the state elections, 'Donald Trump,' a resident of Hasanpur village in Samastipur district, has applied for a residence certificate in Bihar. According to the news agency PTI, a prankster posing as the American president applied for the Bihar residence certificate online on July 29. And surely enough, the person had his research on point. The applicant, posing as 'Donald Trump,' a resident of Hasanpur village, said his parents' names were Frederick Christ Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod, the same as the father and mother of the US President, respectively. However, the district administration ordered lodging of an FIR so that the mischief monger could be tracked down and brought to book. In a statement, the administration said the revenue department official concerned 'turned it down on August 4'. 'It appears there is a diabolical attempt to negatively impact the special intensive revision of electoral rolls which is underway as per the instructions of the Election Commission,' the administration stated. The Samastipur administration also said, 'In view of the seriousness of the offence, a case has been lodged at the Cyber police station, Samastipur, for appropriate investigation and action.' Donald Trump was the fourth incident of its kind reported in the state since the Election Commission began its mammoth exercise in June. Recently, applications were received in rural Patna and Nawada in the name of canines named 'dog babu,' and 'dogesh babu,' respectively. In East Champaran district, an application was received in the name of 'Sonalika tractor,' with the photograph of a Bhojpuri actress. Applications in all the aforementioned cases have been rejected, and FIRs were lodged at the police stations concerned. Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala shared a news clip that said 'certificate has been issued' in favour of the application. 'This is the biggest proof that electoral roll revision in Bihar is a fraud, aimed at stealing votes,' Surjewala said. He said, 'Keeping quiet in such a situation is a crime. Let us all raise our voices and become watchdogs of democracy.' The Samastipur administration explained to Surjewala that the certificate has never been issued. 'Somebody has deliberately made such an application and it was rejected during scrutiny. An FIR has also been lodged. The guilty will not be spared,' they shared, correcting the politician.
