Istanbul sees more than 18.6 million international visitors per year—many of which seeking out the biggest tourist attractions in the city, including the Galata Tower and the Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum. However, with rising summertime temperatures, waiting in line to get into the hot spots in the city is not exactly attractive, which is why the culture and tourism board has made the decision to allow nighttime visits to certain spots.
'This summer, our museums and heritage sites will stay open at night in 27 locations across Türkiye,' said Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, minister of culture and tourism. 'The program aims to welcome both domestic and international visitors who want to explore cultural heritage away from the daytime heat.
Here are the Istanbul hot spots open for nighttime visits, as well as a list of the other attractions across the country that will remain open late this summer:
The Galata Tower in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul draws over a million visitors per year and there's almost always a line snaking its way around the tower. Thankfully this year the tower will remain open to visitors until 11 p.m., allowing guests to catch a glimpse of the Istanbul skyline at nightfall.
The group of three Istanbul Archaeology Museums will each remain open until 10 p.m. throughout the summer months. The museums collectively have over a million artifacts from nearly all periods of world history.
You won't be able to visit the Hagia Sophia after dark—but you can visit the neighboring Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum. The recently opened museum companion to the famous Hagia Sophia will remain open until 10 p.m. all summer long. Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts
The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in Sultanahmet Square was the first of its kind to display both Turkish and Islamic works of art together and is well worth a visit, especially if you're fascinated by calligraphy, tilework, and carpets. The museum will stay open until 10 p.m. throughout the summer months.
The rest of the country will also see nighttime museum and cultural sites opened late, including the following cities and attractions:
Ankara The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations will remain open until 9 p.m.
The Ethnography Museum will also remain open until 9 p.m.
Izmir In Izmir, the famous Ephesus will remain open until 11 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The Museum Izmir Culture and Arts Factory will be open until 9 p.m.

Turkish Airlines Fares Return to Sabre After 10 Month Absence

It seems that Turkish Airlines' push for direct bookings isn't exactly going to plan. As American Airlines already learned, travel agents aren't keen on fast change. Turkish Airlines fares will once again be available on Sabre after nearly 10 months of negotiations, according to LinkedIn posts from sales managers for both companies. That means travel agents who use the Sabre global distribution system no longer have to look elsewhere to purchase Turkish Airlines flights on behalf of clients, resolving a major headache. Turkish Airlines had removed its flights from the Sabre platform last September and travel agents were forced to book through competitors Amadeus and Travelport. The removal and lack of communication had received strong pushback from the industry. The American Society of Travel Advisors published a statement last November criticizing the airline for the move and a 'lack of clarity' about its plans. ASTA said that U.S. travel sellers use Sabre more than any other platform of its type. ASTA commended the reinstated partnership in a statement on Monday. Mark Meader, executive vice president of ASTA Corporate, said in the statement: 'This development is a welcome outcome for the U.S. travel agency community, which relies heavily on Sabre to access comprehensive, competitive flight options for their clients. ASTA appreciates both parties' efforts to restore this vital connection and encourages continued transparency and collaboration to support the travel advisor channel and the travelers it serves." A Push for Direct Bookings Turkish Airlines pulled its fares ahead of the launch of its TKConnect platform last October, where travel sellers can book flights directly with the airline. In a push for more direct bookings, the airline began imposing a surcharge of $24 per ticket for flights booked through distribution companies. Bookings through TKConnect have no fees. The distribution systems that Amadeus and Sabre provide have been the backbone of airline bookings for decades, but the industry is exploring other options. For airlines, they're often looking to circumvent the growing fees that come with working through an intermediary. The industry is taking some steps to move toward a more modern airfare shopping experience, which is what TKConnect aims to provide. Amadeus, Sabre, and Travelport have been pushing their own versions of this tech. The latest agreement between Turkish Airlines and Sabre includes an integration into Sabre's modern distribution platform, according to the LinkedIn posts. American Airlines had been transitioning to a similar strategy focused on direct bookings and modern retail until it backtracked for what the CEO said was poor execution. American Airlines is still behind on revenue goals because of that attempt, though the company says it's on track to fully recover by the end of the year. Sabre confirmed the agreement but did not provide additional details. Turkish Airlines did not respond to a request for comment.

Cheshire named home to some of England's most popular attractions

Cheshire has been named home to some of England's most popular visitor attractions. The county's tourist destinations have once again been recognised for their economic impact and visitor appeal, with several sites ranking among the most visited in both England and the North West. Chester Zoo secured third place in England's top 20 most visited paid attractions, according to Visit England's 2024 Annual Attractions Survey. Cristian Marcucci, managing director at Marketing Cheshire, said: "Today's rankings showcase just how important and popular our attractions are to the region's economy. "Cheshire and Warrington is blessed with world-class attractions. "From Chester's Roman history, world-famous zoo and beloved racecourse to Gulliver's World theme park in Warrington, the UNESCO World Heritage site at Jodrell Bank, and beautiful Tatton Park, to name just a few. "It is wonderful that millions of people from across the North West and beyond are coming here." The survey revealed that seven of Cheshire's attractions made the North West's top 20 paid visitor attractions list. Chester Cathedral also represented the county in the free attractions category, ranking seventh among the North West's top 20. Zebras at Chester Zoo (Image: Chester Zoo) Marketing Cheshire said the results highlight the strength of the region's tourism sector, which generates £3.9 billion annually, supports 38,000 jobs, and attracts more than 56 million visitors each year. Chester Zoo recorded 1,947,544 visitors in 2024, making it the most visited attraction in the UK outside London. Other Cheshire attractions in the North West's top 20 paid list include Tatton Park (third), Dunham Massey (fourth), Lyme Park and Gardens (seventh), Quarry Bank Mill (ninth), BeWILDerwood (14th), and Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement (17th). Jamie Christon, chair of Marketing Cheshire and CEO of Chester Zoo, said: "It's great to see Chester Zoo ranked third in the national table and topping the North West rankings – and joined in the most visited lists by so many brilliant attractions that help fuel Cheshire and Warrington's £3.9 billion visitor economy. "The region's world-class tourism offer continues to evolve with new attractions for 2025 including Lapland UK bringing its premium Christmas experience to Capesthorne Hall, creating 1,200 seasonal jobs." Chester was also recently named one of top 10 most welcoming places on the planet.
