Bridgerton star looks unrecognisable in first glimpse at 'scandalous' new TV show based on true story - and it's worlds away from the Netflix period drama

Daily Mail23-04-2025

A Bridgerton star looks unrecognisable in a first look at a 'scandalous' new TV show based on a true story.
Bessie Carter, 31, rose to fame on the Netflix period drama as the obnoxious Prudence Featherington.
Now the actress, who is the daughter of The Crown and Harry Potter star Imelda Staunton and Downton Abbey icon Jim Carter, is set to star in a brand new six-part series titled Outrageous.
She plays Nancy Mitford in the six-episode show, which follows the lives of the Mitford sisters and is based on Mary S Lovell's biography.
New images of the show have been released offering a glimpse of Bessie in character, and she looks worlds away from her 19th Century Bridgerton role.
In one photograph, she sports her hair in a short bob and wears a yellow V-neck top as she looks at co-star Jamie Blackley as Peter.
Bessie stars in the new show alongside Joanna Vanderham as Diana Mitford, Casualty's Zoe Brough as Jessica Mitford, Say Nothing Shannon Watson as Unity Mitford and Orla Hil as Deborah Mitford.
Other cast members include Isobel Jesper Jones as Pamela Mitford, who starred in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and Toby Regbo who plays the brother of the Mitford sisters.
Set in the 1930s, Outrageous delves into the story of the six Mitford sisters 'who refuse to play by the rules, attracting scandal and notoriety at every turn,' according to a synopsis.
The eldest sister, Nancy, tackles 'love and heartache' while her younger siblings go on different paths as their parents watch on.
A summary by UKTV reads: 'A family saga like no other, this is a tale of bonds and betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, jealousy, romance – and coming of age in the most extraordinary circumstances. Can the fractured sisterhood survive?'
The new show, created by Sarah Williams, will premiere on U and U&Drama in the UK on June 19.
Another new image shows Mosley, played by Joshua Sasse, and Diana, played by Joanna Vanderham, dancing together.
Bessie previously opened up to Tatler about playing real people and was full of praise for her parents and their successful careers - and says she took inspiration from her mother Imelda for her latest role.
Imelda famously played The Queen in the later series of The Crown which Bessie says helped her in playing real people too - including her new part as Nancy Mitford.
Bessie said: 'We're not imitating them, but we're taking the essence of them and trying to regurgitate it as truth.
'It's something my mother had to go to town with given that the Queen was so known by everyone… she smashed it!
'I think that's such a hard line, but really doing the voice and the physicality and then bringing your own proof to it, that's the fun.'

Meghan Markle shares video of her, Prince Harry and their kids at Disneyland

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, continues to share sweet snippets of her family life with husband Prince Harry and their two kids, Archie and Lilibet. In her latest Instagram post, the former Meghan Markle shared a video collage filled with photos of their trip to Disneyland for their daughter's fourth birthday. 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' Meghan captioned her post Friday. The video, set to Peggy Lee's 'It's a Good Day,' shows Lilbet and Archie meeting Elsa and Anna from 'Frozen.' In all the pictures she included of their little ones, their faces are obscured or covered with a heart. The recap of their trip to the Happiest Place on Earth also includes the family on rides like Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the Cars Land ride and many more. There's also a silly photo of Meghan and Harry screaming while on Space Mountain. The two are sitting front row with their mouths wide open — yet appearing like they're having fun. And the festivities continued for the family of four. Meghan also shows Lilibet's 'Little Mermaid' birthday cake, their Mickey and Minnie stuffed dolls, the corn dogs and pickles they munched on during their trip and several other family photos from the park. Among the cutest is one of all four posing together, in which Lilibet is barefoot and in a pink dress with bows. The latest look into Meghan's personal home life comes after she celebrated her daughter's birthday on June 4. The former 'Suits' star shared a number of photos of her little girl from when she was born to their most recent adventures together. There were also snaps of Harry and his 'favorite adventurer' holding hands. 'Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives — and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!' Meghan wrote in her first post. Additionally, she also posted a never-before-seen video of when she was pregnant with Lilibet and dancing with Harry at the hospital in hopes to induce labor. 'Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work — there was only one thing left to do!' she captioned the fun and rare video of them. Meghan returned to Instagram on Jan. 1 after leaving the platform in early 2018 during her highly publicized engagement to Harry. Among her posts include family photos, outings and news about her podcast, Netflix projects and more.

Downton Abbey quaint village overwhelmed by tourists as residents divided

Downton Abbey, which initially ran on ITV before becoming a film series, has filmed in places such as Bampton in Oxfordshire, which was used as an outdoor location Residents of a village that was used in Downton Abbey are said to be divided over the tourism that its association with the ITV show brings to the community. It's been described as a "magnet" for visitors after its appearances on-screen. Bampton in Oxfordshire is among the filming locations from Downton Abbey, which ran for six seasons from 2010 to 2015. It's been followed by two films, which came out in 2019 and 2022, with a third set to be released later this year. ‌ The village is said to have been used as an outdoor location for the fictional Downton since 2010. Characters have been seen at St Mary's Church and other locations in Bampton, like its Community Hub, which appeared as a hospital. ‌ It has been reported that the community has attracted international visitors due to its role in the Downton Abbey franchise. According to the Telegraph though, the village is now divided over the tourism boom that it's generated. Some residents have said that it has generated a "small fortune" which has helped to improve buildings and services in the community. Others however have complained about tourists flocking to the area, with some visitors said to have even been found on resident's driveways whilst exploring. It's reported that guided tours of Bampton and other filming locations from the acclaimed TV show can cost as much as £500 each for visitors. The outlet adds that fans of the historical drama often visit St Mary's Church. A volunteer at Bampton Community Hub claimed that their charity shop was making £1,000 a day from visitors at one point. They told the outlet: "It has made us a small fortune." They continued: "Hundreds of thousands of pounds – we've had thousands and thousands and thousands of visitors." ‌ The tourism is said to have helped the community to fund renovation work. The financial impact has also reportedly supported the improving of services like the village library, an exhibition space and a community archive. Not everyone seems as keen on the amount of tourism that the village's connection to Downton Abbey has prompted. One resident said that tourists "just go everywhere" and said that they "often" stand on his own driveway. ‌ Another suggest that whilst they contribute to the library, they "don't have enough time" to support other venues in Bampton by visiting them. They said that the area is "better off" with families visiting in car, rather than bus tours. Bampton is just one of the locations used on the show. Highclere Castle in Hampshire features as the fictional Downton Abbey in the franchise. Lord Carnarvon said in 2015 that his property had become a "major tourist attraction" because of the show, adding: "It has been a wonderful thing for us."

Has Mercy for None been renewed for Season 2? Here's what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled? Mercy for None is the latest Netflix K-drama, boasting compelling characters and a bloody, action-packed storyline. This one has been quite the rollercoaster ride over the season! If you've been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more. Here's what we know about a renewal: What is Mercy for None about? 11 years after going into hiding, an ex-gangster called Nam Gi-jun returns to Seoul's criminal underworld to find out the truth about his brother's death — and get some sweet, sweet revenge. His weapon of choice? A baseball bat. We have ongoing coverage of Mercy for None on the site, including recaps for every episode. You can find those HERE! Has Mercy for None been renewed for season 2? At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Mercy for None for season 2. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Mercy for None has had a good reaction online from critics and audiences alike. Given the way this show is set up, and the ending we receive, we're predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. Having said that, we do also know that completion rate is a massive metric for these streamers so that could play a pivotal role here. However, it's also rare for these Netflix K-dramas to be renewed – especially when they're labelled as Limited Series like this one is! For now, we'll have to wait and see what happens so take our prediction with a pinch of salt! What we know about season 2 so far: Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it's rare to find these renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed. Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems very unlikely that Mercy for None will buck the trend. There is always the possibility that the actors return for a follow-up for a sequel or a spin-off featuring the same characters but considering all of this, we believe this will not be renewed. We generally aim to update this page when more information becomes available. Would you like to see Mercy for None return for a second season? Or do you think the story has run its course?
